I think it would be kind of nice to have all game parts be "unified"; and the UI, while fine, also with some enhancements (but retain the spirit; for instance, Warcraft 3 was "enhanced" but the enhancement was crap).
There are many mods that do this already, EET, visual-improvement mod (the one where all light sources are improved) and so forth, but it would be nice to see what kind of game would be possible, even if hobbyists do it or most of it. And someone to make top-down decisions (could be a solo person or a small team; for a limited time only, e. g. decide on feature inclusion within half a year, and then set a time frame of "within three years, this should have been the engine + content to unify all these old games").
I am kind of doing this for BG2 in a way just by installing mods I like. GemRB kind of does some of that, but I don't think they kind of unify everything. I'd love to see a game meta engine that unifies all of Planescape, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate etc... perhaps even with new material (modest additions) + some of the mods improved.
