[MOD] Lunia for Good Parties & The Pursuit of Justice

Hello there! :)

I'm joining the forum to post about my mods - they allow players to complete Dorn's SOA & TOB quests without having him in the party. In fact, with The Pursuit of Justice, he becomes the villain of the story instead.

Pursuit of Justice can be found here:

I have other completed & WIP mods on my Github too: among them a Friendship Mod for M'Khiin for Siege of Dragonspear. And I'm slowly working on adding her as a companion for BG2EE as well. ;)

Thanks for the interest. <3

    Congratulations on the release!

I'm doing a fresh EET setup recently and will try both mods asap.
  • Thanks for the interest! <3

Lunia should be fine on EET. But I wouldn't recommend installing the Pursuit Beta on it yet - I'll do the needed tests & edits before I drop V1.0. :)

Very nice idea. I kind of like Dorn, despite him being very rough and evil - but my party is usually taken by other character these days so I have to forego him for the most part.

Morpheus also has a mod-tweak with a Dorn focus:

Would be kind of cool if we could one day have a mod where Dorn wants to raid THE HEAVENS. Finally slaughtering all those goodie goodie devas (well, for an evil party).

    Congrats on the release!
It will be some time before I'll play BG2 again but I am looking forward to seeing all this content with my good party!

Great idea! Wish people consider doing the same for Neera, Rashaad and Hexxat's content.

I really enjoyed Lunia on my last playthrough. Looking forward to this on my next play through, though hoping Lunia 2.0 will be out by the time I’m ready to install (months from now, to be clear)

just a quick update to say i've altered the requirements for pursuit of justice. any party with a reputation of 14 or higher can now access the quest - provided they haven't recruited or killed dorn beforehand. as the quest wasn't originally intended for evil-aligned players, i'd love feedback on dialogue or responses that players feel are lacking.

lunia for good parties' alignment requirements remain in play. ;)

shevy123456 - i'm afraid i don't play with evil-aligned parties, or dorn, enough to create such a mod myself. but i certainly feel the lack of epic-level quests for parties (particularly of the plane-hopping kind). :'(

jastey - THANK YOU SO MUCH JASTEY! <3 i am, admittedly, waiting for your mods (particularly brandock & brage) to get their BG2 content before a large replay myself. :D

nymrod85 - thank you. i hope to reuse rasaad's BGEE areas for a monk stronghold quest. but that's still on the every-growing mod bucketlist. :(

masteraleph - i'm glad to hear you enjoyed lunia. <3 version 2.0 will have less content that originally planned, but will still add two bounties & a fight to protect the tree, so hopefully i'll get that out soon. :)

That's a very cool idea! I will definitely try it out during my next playthrough.

It's been some time since I played Dorn's quests but I remember regretting they are only there for evil characters who choose to have him, because they seemed appropriately epic for adventures of someone who is supposed to be a half-god.

    Glad to hear it!

If I can suggest- something to do with the scales in Lunia other than turning them into more
    shadow dragon armor
. Obviously the original doesn’t work for a good character, but the armor as it exists is something you may already have and also may have better than at that point.

@bucketfulofsunshine -- hey! I've decided to give your mod (The Pursuit of Justice) a spin and just finished it. It gives a nice feeling of Dorn taking action on his own rather than waiting in front of the Order for eternity. It can help the game feel more alive, like... things happen even when PC is not around. However, I did find 2 minor things that kinda resulted in "oh... like... huh?" at the very end.

Firstly, the whole epic quest is done, I return to the Helmites, and they thank me and give me the reward: 67 gold pieces. I mean... I never had to work so much to get that amount of gold. Heh. To make it easier for you: you use GivePartyGold(2500) rather than GiveGoldForce(2500). The first one would give players 2500, but only if the character had that much gold. Since he had only 67 gold pieces, that's all the quest giver could give me. The second action should give PC 2500 no matter what (however, this is a serious quest and those big quests give some more gold than that. I would probably change it to 5500 gp).

Secondly, that same dialogue -- the one that ends the quest -- does not provide any XP. I feel that while such stuff is not 100% crucial when it's Dorn's quest, since this is no longer that, I believe you should still be awarded by finishing it, as with any other normal quest. Especially considering you now get less XP for finishing that quest, because you do not get XP for slaying people at the Order, nor for the Helmites, nor Traggor. All those would normally give like... 80 000 XP (it's a guess, but there are many enemies you skip here, in this version). I think the equivalent should be added at the very end. To imitate the other bigger quests, I would use XP per object, so it would be:

    AddXPObject(Player1,12500)
    AddXPObject(Player2,12500)
    AddXPObject(Player3,12500)
    AddXPObject(Player4,12500)
    AddXPObject(Player5,12500)
    AddXPObject(Player6,12500)

I think that is going to make the quest feel like a proper big adventure, perhaps one that should have always been there.

Thanks! I hope that helps! Cheers!

whardypl - thank you! i'm always looking for more high-level adventures, or anything that expands tob a bit, & lunia seemed such a nice change-of-pace to the usual hells we visit. :D

...& getting access to the beautiful resurrection gorge map & quest seemed like the next step after that. especially for someone (me) who doesn't play evil parties often.

masteraleph - thanks for your suggestion, it's something i will add. admittedly, i worried adding too much new dialogue & items would degrade the vanilla lunia experience. but i already have custom items present, so adding something unique for them seems fitting. :)

LavaDelVortel - not to sound like a broken record, i'm sorry, but YOU ARE A BLESSING! <3

l i s t e n. that gold bug was driving me insane & NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY IT HAPPENED. new lesson: when in doubt, check IESDP...or ask a friendly veteran modder. :) i'll get the bug fixed & raise the gold reward as you suggested.

I CANNOT BELIEVE I OVERLOOKED THE XP REWARD DURING TESTING! :#

your suggestion makes sense & will happily get added in the next version (along with thanks if you'll allow it). i might space xp gain out, if i add more sidequests as i hoope to, but if i skip them then this number is PERFECT. though it will be implemented for sure (even if number might chance).

just, uh, pretend you never saw this little mess. please. :)

this is exactly the kind of feedback i was hoping for. it absolutely helps me. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME <3

Hey! Pleasure to help. You may want to decide on that GP and XP amounts :) I am always afraid to give to much final XP reward, and then I go do Planar Sphere and each character suddenly get 45 000 xp reward. So maybe I am to "shy" with 12.5 k, I don't know.

The mess - uhm... What mess? It was all fine, and I like the idea. Some talks could be a bit expanded here and there, to make the characters show a bit more of themselves, but it's still fine and I enjoyed it.

As for credits -- it's up to you, your shot, and no worries, I do not expect anything. I don't think I did that much, I just played with the mod and left a couple of notes :)

    Cheers!

the hope, for the full v1.0 pursuit version, is to add a sidequest & some dialogue to tanner (about being a helmite sentry & helping him protect the camp a bit). then, finally, a sidequest & dialogues with verner if the player chooses to resurrect him (ideally restoring the gorge a bit).

scope creep had me considering verner as a joinable npc in dorn's stead. helping him learn how to use his powers RESPONSIBLY. :)

...but, since m'khiin bg2 & lunia 2.0 is still ongoing, adding more work to the pile wouldn't help.

it's telling, i think, that lunia has stupidly branching naiman alore dialogue & interjections ...but, for pursuit, my dialogues are minimal & the sidequests aren't added yet. i got scared i was corrupting the 'vanilla' path too much.

so, again, thanks for the encouragement. &, uh, know it unfortunately will see me adding much more content & changes in the future. :D

I know the dilemma - how much is too much.

I think this mod doesn't need to provide more companions, I mean... The idea is more like turning companion content into more neutral content, and some may fear that if they don't take the new one, they will be missing something :) I would say what's needed is just some fluff in those talks and you're fine to go. I am sure your creativity will shine when working on M'Khiin, and you'll need it as companions mods require patience :)

(However, keep on mind these are just my opinions and after all, you're the one to decide how much to add)

    Cheers!
