Just checked icewinddale.com and there is a preorder page there now (had to force refresh to get it to show). I just preordered. Didn't see this mentioned anywhere yet.

It seems that it's coming really soon. This is from the FAQ: "Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition has entered beta and will release "when it's ready" to ensure the best experience for players, likely within a month".

So, judging by feature list - no NPCs BG-style?

    Aw... and here I was hoping for IWD:EE to be compatible with my Virtual Boy. ;_;

Preordered it all the same. It's a strange coincidence that my original Icewind Dale discs died on me just a couple of days ago. I bet Drizzt had something to do with it!

No. But there is IWDNPCs, which supported the IWD-in-BG2 mod. Don't know if/when it will be compatible.

Q: Can I import a Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition or Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition character?

A: No, you'll need to create a new character for your game in Icewind Dale. We have provided a collection of six custom-built pre-generated characters for your party to start, which you can either use or replace with your own creations.

I'm hoping that 'real' companions will follow in the future! :)

They say that tons of BG-spells will carry over. I wonder if that goes the other direction too?

I'd be interested to see this too.

and since it looks like it's on the same engine as bgee, I wonder how compatiblity works in between the games?
Could we import character back and forth? Also will EE mods work out of the box in IWDEE so to speak?

I was wondering that as well. I know there were a few spells in vanilla Icewind Dale that had hard-coded reliance on that engine. The Icewind in BG2 project that ported IWD to the BG2 engine couldn't bring those spells over.

I wonder if they dropped those spells in the EE too or they ported the code. If they did then I don't see why they couldn't be brought over (along with the other IWD spells) to the BG games as well.

I'm assuming they started with @CamDawg‌ & @DavidW's work for IWD-in-BG2 which ported the IWD-unique spells to the BG2 engine.

Camdawg's IWDification mod is also based on that work. So, you can get some of them now!

Hmmm. The FAQ says almost 40 new kits. If you don't count the specialist mages - which are already there - there is only 31 kits (including the sorc and monk base classes that aren't normally in IWD).

Will we see a lot of new kits with the release?

I'm also wondering how loot randomisation will work (or if it will be there at all) in conjunction with the new magic items

    FAQ says:
31 new class and kit combinations from Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, well as the half-orc playable race

    so I'm guessing almost 40 = 31 :p

Modders reclaim Beamdog to add the effects and animations unique in IWD to BG:EE!

    Lol... Fair enough then.

(I wonder if I can use that policy when paying for the game)

Would be fun to get a few barbarian kits for those adventures up north. *hint hint*

Barbarian is already technically a fighter kit though.

I'd also settle for the Anagakok kit, Shaman kit, Savage Wizard kit, or the Oozemaster kit. :p

The Eye of Gruumsh would be awesome for a barbarian kit. Permanent blindness as a hindrance could be pretty fun.
