Help justify this playthrough please

Well I find myself back plotting another play through, and I really want to, in one fell swoop, experience a blade, DD, and Archer. So Im thinking do an scs run with 3 pc chars only. Problem is im having problems justifying why a half elf , elf, and dwarf are roaming around together and are all super powerful (im not on board the randomized roll train )... can someone give me a good kick start on the creativity? Really dont wanna start it up unless i have a good RP angle to keep me going.

Half elf amd elf are siblings, dwarf is second cousin to clear out the rat NPC and follows the siblings out of Candlekeep instead of Imoen.

There's always the possibility that you've got 3 Lawful Evil characters who are all in it for the gold. They don't have to get along or like each other. In fact, the RP part could involve constant group tension between these very different people, who only work together because none of them could find more powerful allies.

The dwarf may hate the bard and his stupid jokes, but the dwarf knows the bard can knock out a whole field of bandits with a single spell. The elf may hate the dwarf out of racial prejudice, but the elf knows the dwarf can take a mace to the face from an ornery ogre and keep fighting anyway. The bard may hate the archer's constant bragging, but the bard knows the archer can shoot a basilisk right through the neck from 100 yards.

Let's say your PC is the DD. The half-elf and elf are a husband and wife who have befriended your PC in Candlekeep. They came to Candlekeep years ago fleeing persecution or danger (invent reason). Candlekeep offered sanctuary (the blade had managed to "acquire" a valuable tome when fleeing). They settled there with the archer working with the Watchers in defending the keep and the blade a regular entertainer at the inn.

After the assassination attempts from Carbos and Shank and your hurried departure from Candlekeep, they have joined your PC as guardians as well as friends. Perhaps this quest will also provide them a chance at redemption...

It would really help to know how you intended to play - is the PC good or evil? Lawful or chaotic? Do you want a group of friends willing to die for each other, or working together because circumstance?

I justify my playthroughs by asking one simple question:

    - Is it fun?

If the answer is yes, the playthrough is justified.

Now for an actual helpful post:

I don't think it's far-fetched to assume that whichever two characters are not the protagonist are just old friends from Candlekeep.

Suppose you and Imoen were never really close because you spent most of your time hanging around with them. Suppose one of them is actually friends with Gorion and they were escorting you and him on your trip away from Candlekeep.

When your group was attacked by Sarevok, they fled with you to make sure you'd be safe while Gorion stayed behind and bought you enough time to escape.

Or maybe they weren't going away with the both of you, but just like Imoen, decided to follow you because of a bad feeling about your trip.
