All Arcane group....

So I'm wanting to run an all arcane caster group, but I'm not sure how to deal with Liches . Usually I rely heavily on Keldorn with Dispel Magic, but I'm not sure how to reasonably handle them without him.

For the group I'm thinking:
PC: Gnome - Fighter/Illusionist
Aerie - Cleric/Mage
Jan - Thief/Mage
Nalia/Imoen - Thief/Mage

That would be the whole group, once getting out of the starting dungeon, but I'd take in temporary members for quests.

Check out Aerie's higher level anti undead stuff. Holy Word is a 50% casting failure that stacks with itself, and False Dawn is a guaranteed confusion for liches.

yeah, Liches will even go BOOM if you get Aerie high enough level from turn Undead, but you can use Staff of the Magi on the PC. Tough fight to get it, but it will act as a suitable replacement for Carsomyr, although technically Jan can use that later on, but he can't gain proficiency in 2h Swords so will whiff a lot and have feeble APR lol.

I actually played a run of six specialist wizards once many years ago. I was just doing it to check out a cool mod that gave each specialist unique high level spells (can't remember the name offhand). I started in BG2 and intended to play through ToB. It was really quite fun but unfortunately my highly modded game kicked their asses in Improved Spellhold and I abandoned the run. With what I know now about the save penalties specialists inflict on their targets I'm thinking about trying this again starting in BGEE.

Thanks for sparking yet another restartitis idea!

Edit: Just realized I could include a Dragon Disciple in this group. I'm totally going to give this a try now!

HInt, hint: If all else fails, there are insta-win green scrolls.

Holy crap! My all mage group is actually kicking ass in BGEE. I gave 2 of them dart proficiency, 2 slingers, and 2 daggers (throwing mostly). So far they've been like buzzsaws with one ferret familiar and all those missile weapons. I'm really surprised at the ease so far. Haven't even gotten them to level two yet so I'm anticipating that it'll get difficult at some point.

This may not be the thread to ask this, but does anybody have any ideas how to handle traps with an all mage party?

    Protection From Fire

    Protection From Electricity

Shield (for the Magic Missile ones) - IDK if it works to be honest

Ring of Free Action (for those nasty webs).

Anyway, you can't disarm it, but you can be immune to it.

Shield works against the magic missile traps. I've already checked that to be sure. Good ideas on the others. I'm guessing maybe Spell Immunity or some other abjuration spells would help against other traps. Are there traps that spells won't protect against? I'd like to know if there are any game-breaking traps that an all mage party can't overcome...

mirror image and stoneskin are great for traps

as for liches, liches are immune to level 5 and lower spells, that's it, even when they cast globe of invulnerablity ( lol ) and spell turning and the such, if you can, mass death fogs or incendiary clouds on them, they will eventually hit through and waste them, i've even seen abi-dalzim's horrid wilting fry them

I also just realized I can stock up on arrows of dispelling and use those against them via Nalia/Imoen. Also, mass MMM should be pretty good too since Mantel won't protect against it.

I know SCS removes their immunity to Breach, but it seems a bit off using that, but I dunno. It also seems weird to have a case where an opponent can use a protection that is impossible to remove as well.

I'm thinking arrows of dispelling will do it though.
