Cavalier and Undead Hunter creature bonus

leeowensoasleeowensoas Member Posts: 81
Has anyone checked the creature files in NearInfinity to see what these two kits ACTUALLY get bonus damage vs? Do cavs get bonus dmg against wyverns? Do UHs get dmg against bone fiends or bone golems? There are a lot of creatures that would seem to fall under a "maybe" and I'm curious if any of the forum's NI geniuses have made a comprehensive list of creatures these kits benefit against.

Seems to me like cavs should get bonus dmg vs:
-Demon Knight
-Cambion
-Nabassu
-Cornugon
-Glabrezu
-Alu Fiend
-Bone Fiend
-Abishai
-Pit Fiend
-Marileth
-Succubus
-Baalor
-Maurezhi
-Dragon (all colors)
-Baby Wyvern
-Wyvern

And UHs vs:
-Banshee
-Ghoul
-Ghast
-Greater Ghoul
-Greater Ghast
-Ghoul Lord
-Lich
-Elemental Lich
-Demilich
-Vampiric Mind Flayer
-Vampiric Mist
-Mist Horror
-Wandering Horror
-Crimson Death
-Spellhaunt
-Mummy (lesser and greater)
-Shadow
-Shade Wolf
-Wraith
-Shimmering Wraith
-Spectre
-Vampiric Wraith
-Skeleton
-Skeleton Archer
-Helmed Horror
-Bone Golem
-Flaming Skull
-Spirit Troll
-Spectral Troll
-Vampire (and vampyre) of all ranks
-Zombie
-Sea Zombie

Anything that doesn't belong on these lists? Anything missing?

I don't think wyverns count towards Cavalier's damage bonus. Its been awhile since I've run one though.

    Alhoon are illithiliches.

Categorizing then as undead is correct. Poor things, they are plagued by dry skin.

Wow, well done, thanks for the quick replies all! Hey here's one I forgot: vampiric and/or dread wolves, living or undead?
  • sarevok57sarevok57 Member Posts: 5,975
Dread Wolf: Wolf/Monster -> so not undead ( lol....? )
Vampiric Wolf: Wolf/Undead -> so indeed the Undead Hunter will get a bonus against this creature

Sweet, thanks! Undead Hunters still lose out a bit compared to other Pally kits but wow they manage to get bonuses against a crazy number of different enemies, definitely enough to make em much better than kitless (though between Turn Undead, Daystar, Azuredge, Sunray, and the Mace of Disruption it might be kinda overkill). It's really an underappreciated kit though, that fits well with the story of SoA and has some nice RP opportunities as a zombie-hunter/vampire-slayer/etc.
I always thought the kit should get a bonus to Turn Undead, at least get rid of the 2-level penalty Pallies get compared to Clerics.

well there is still quite a bit of undead in the game, so i say it's a pretty good 50/50 trade off

in general demons/dragons are stronger, but the undead side has some strong ones ( like liches and vampires ) plus the undead hunter comes with some great immunities

Yeah the Cav is my all time favorite kit, and Inquisitors are awesome (though Keldorn's existence makes me roll one less often) but lookin at that list more makes me wanna give the UH another shot, especially for that longbow spec in BG1. Sarevok57, you seem to know everything, does that bonus damage just take the damage type of the weapon in use? I always thought it might be cool to pick skeletal undead as a racial enemy for an archer since they make arrows so annoying, but if it just is +4 missile damage that'll be like less than 1 extra dmg after the resists, probably makes more sense just to put that point in MoD, Daystar, or (can't believe this just occurred to me) Azuredge for that ranged damage

i agree the Cavalier is my favourite out of all the kits and i also never choose Inquisitor because of Keldorn

when it comes to missile weapons ( bolts/arrows/bullets ) they do indeed deal missile damage which SKELETONS do indeed have a 90% damage resistance against, but that is only for skellies, your missile damage should be quite normal against the rest

although in BG1 there is more skeletal undead compared to BG 2, but there really is never a wrong option on how to play the game, so if you want a ranged Undead Hunter, nothing wrong with that choice

also, another note, Azuredge deals missile damage when used in range

This is really good info. Kudos to @sarevok57 for his excellent replies.

I happen to love the UDH kit and I have reacted sometimes on how little love it gets compared to the cav, who IMHO is an inferior kit compared to UDH over the saga (and especially in IWD).

My I Hate Undead Kitpack has an Undead Hunter component that brings it closer to PnP (giving it a little boost).

This holy avenger has honed PRO_HISHER abilities toward the destruction of the undead and other unnatural creatures and is immune to many of their most devastating abilities.

    Advantages:
    - May create a Holy Sword once per day for one hour (starting at level 5).
    - May Turn Undead as a priest of the same level (starting at level 3).
    - +3 bonus to hit and damage rolls against undead creatures.
    - Immune to hold and level drain.

    HOLY SWORD:

Starting at level five, the Undead Hunter may materialize this holy weapon once per day for one hour. Despite its +3 bonus, this bastard sword is considered +5 for the purpose of determining what it can hit. The Undead Hunter always uses this blade as a specialist and while wields it PRO_HESHE's under the effect of Bless.

    Disadvantages:
    - May not use Lay On Hands ability.

so i did a little bit more digging and Fallen Solars also counts as Demonic for their race, so the Cavalier would get a bonus to hit/to damage against them ( but not against any of the other Fallen angels though, they are considered antisolar or darkplanetar for their race )
