I LOVE the second inventory screen, that's perfect! PLEASE keep up the fantastic work, you are appreciated! :D (I know modding can be a thankless job sometimes)

the work done is great, i congratulate you :). starting screens are particularly good. rich fantasy feel i think.
i will probably use this for bg2:ee. :)

if you were thinking about this but were unsure whether demand exists, i'd like you to know i would love to see blue-ish stone theme (as is now) with different buttons and borders (not so much bright gold) and few visual adjustments (less repeating textures).
    :)

Well, @Magevil, you're very strong! Your work is very beautiful. If May I a sugest, the border of the various inventory's slots, if they're more soft, I think, were better. The colour's slots instead, I think, maybe can fit well then now. I'd to show you a screenshot but, the image not upload...I don't know why. If I do I'll post it.

image Ok. It's 8 bit BMP format. So:
1- I think the border must be separate.
2- Colour's slot must be fix.
3- The borders need a little fix and a bit more sharped.
'corse it's only a suggest. Still you're great to did this.

@Ophlyum All of your concerns have already been addressed...I've posted images of inventory 2.0 in a previous comment. Color slots and the rest of your concerns will be fixed with BETA 5.0. Thanks for the feedback. :)

Check out my Inventory Design Concept:

Is this something you would want to use? Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated. Please remember the design is not perfect or polished just a quick mock up. Thanks.

Here is another Inventory Design Concept 2. Please let me know which design you like best and why. Thanks.

Damn ... could you be more awesome ? xD

difficult choice but I would vote for the 2nd !

Clearly the second one. Guess I have a weakness for pyramids. :P

I'd suggest to move the ring and bracelet slots behind the armor slots though to make the displays more balanced with each other. The colour slots would fit in better below the paperdoll display as well imho.

    Nevertheless astonishing work! :D

removing the two color boxes from the paperdoll is a good idea, but i'm not so sure about the quick items place... maybe under the ring and bracelet to conserve some balance ? not sure it would fit though =/

For inventory screen i would definitely vote for the version from 8th page. I don't like rearranging too many slots - i would like to feel that i play good, old BG, intuitively put items in right slots, not looking where are they now. Hope you will not give up old inventory design.

@Etamin - The old BG inventory is cluttered and poorly designed. I'm not sure if I will do these designs or not. It really depends on if there is enough interest or not. You can always revert back to previous designs of mine with the new beta by keeping your inventor.mos file. Thanks for your feedback.

Maybe, put helmet, armour, boots and bracelet or belt instead helmet, cape, neklace, left hand. The quick column's weapon is a nice idea. On the left column may put all the accesories. For the quik items...I'm not sure too...to be onest I don't like so much...too many distance from paperdoll...maybe under instead rings and bracelet...One question: The paused's slot is it necessary big like that?

All three concepts are lovely, but I think number 3 is the best as the square shape of the slots feels more organized, to me at least. My only suggestion is to make the colour blocks horizontal and place them around the rings for added symmetry-although I'm probably the only one who'd like that!

Great UI I really like it. But one question. Would it be possible to create an UI in a higher resolution or would it crash the game? I actually prefer the non scaled version but at least the buttons are pretty blurry in higher resolutions.

First: Really AWESOME Mod, thank you so MUCH !!
Second: Plz give us SIlver/Blue Buttons like BG2, i will love you for this !

    Thank you!
  • LiamEslerLiamEsler Member Posts: 1,859
@Darkcloud Higher resolution UI elements aren't possible yet, no.

@Magevil The main flaw I see in all of your inventory designs is the placement of the weapon slots; they were laid out the way they were for a reason, and it's pretty important the player be able to tell which is the primary slot/etc. It's not immediately clear that it would go vertically.
  • ArchaicArchaic Member Posts: 924
@Darkcloud - Thank you. Yes some of the graphics including the buttons are stock graphics from beamdog. I will be re-creating them at some point. Thanks for your input.

@Kazuga - Silver-Blue buttons are planed for a future release probably BETA 6. Thanks.

@Kaeloree - Left to right or top to bottom - whats the difference? I think anyone can figure out the primary slot. With anything new it takes a second to get acquainted.

I'm not sure what to think with so many mixed opinions from people. The one thing I know for sure is that the old BG UI for the inventory is cluttered and disorganized.
  • LiamEslerLiamEsler Member Posts: 1,859
@Magevil The problem is that you're not actually giving any indication for them to get acquainted in the first place, it's just trial and error, and good design should not need the user to guess anything. :)

@Kaeloree - I can easily make the border highlight the primary slot. The standard in life is left to right and top to bottom. There is no guessing if you use common sense. The only difference is its different that what everyone else is used to. The original design focused on left to right with no distinction to the primary slot, right? Thanks for your feedback.
  • DarkcloudDarkcloud Member Posts: 302
The thing is, there is no primary slot. The game selects whatever slot you put in a weapon the last time as the current or does it have some use in AI scripts.

    @Magevil
The new Inventory looks interesting. I think it is a bit too compact. How much arranging is possible in general with the UI?
  • LiamEslerLiamEsler Member Posts: 1,859
@Darkcloud Huh, really? Well that invalidates the whole issue! That's sweet :D

Well as it is it was only preview for what's he's planning to do so no point in giving indications for now ^^

You should do as you SEE fit for your taste ! after all you are the modder and part of your work should reflect your idea of things. You can't always ask everyone for every bit of details, you already have so much requests so try to focus on a main inventory UI, and when you'll be finish with it, you'll start taking request for some details as you see fit =)

I'll use whatever you do cause it's fantastic anyway and much more aesthetic than the default one =)

@Magevil just to give some feedback, out of the 3 inventory design concepts you posted, I liked the second one the most in terms of convenience, but I think that the third one was a bit more aesthetically pleasing (the way it fills the screen seems more balanced, but having the quick items all the way on the right seems odd to me).

Someone else mentioned not changing the inventory layout, and I just wanted to add support for the idea of keeping a "normal layout" option even with future releases; perhaps even just included as a file/set of files with which you can overwrite the default setting (which would be your modified design). I really like a strong majority of your stuff, but I do think that a drastically altered inventory screen could drive people away from using it. While to you it may seem crazy to use the original layout, we all have our own ideas of what is "best" so what is best to you may not make sense to others. I'm sure that there will be many that like your mosaics and other changes, but will be thrown off by extreme changes to layout. Just a thought.

As far as top to bottom being just as intuitive as left to right, I agree. I don't think that that difference should be a problem at all.

Once again, great work. I appreciate all the effort you're putting into this, it's all very cool and I'm really looking forward to 5.0 :)

@Magevil Just do *not* try to please everyone. Do what YOU think is aesthetically beautiful and functional. You'll never be able to please everybody and working in something you don't personally like is a completely unnecessary self-punishment, in my opinion.
  • ArchaicArchaic Member Posts: 924
@neoesprit @mlnevese - thank you for your positive words of encouragement! I think I can offer a classic UI experience and the Enhanced version to try to find some middle ground in all of this.
