Yes and it's now partially driven by bgee.sql. I don't know if he's still working on that or not as he has not said anything about what he's currently working on in twitter...
@Zeckul - I completely agree with you about the various screens we have to jump through just to load a game or even to quit. Just to quit the game you have to click 5 buttons and go through 3 different screens. This is one of the main reason I was looking into controlling button functionality.
Save/Load screen is complete. I'm going to be working to finalize the start and BG main menu screens over the next day or so. Then I will be diving into the options screen.
It looks really lovely, but the buttons barely stand out at all. Maybe darken the background and brighten the buttons slightly? Might help bring them forward.
Still intending to properly critique things for you, but I've been flat out.
I really like the colors. For me it would only take a little chance to improve the visibility of the buttons. I also like the proportions of the buttons but something feels strange about the unused ones. Still very close to perfect!
PS: Maybe just brightening the white of the buttons written text will do the job?
@Schopenhauer - I can't brighten the white of the button text color and I must have 6 buttons for the other menus such as options. I tried to have only 4 for the main menu and 6 for the main menu options screen but its hard coded. Thanks.
@Kaeloree - I'll work on bringing out the buttons some more for sure. Good feedback, thanks.
@mars0124@mlnevese@Kaeloree - I prefer my method of install also for the simplicity of changing custom settings such as changing to a different inventory option. After install you can load the installer again and it shows what you have installed and allows you to select different options. Not to mention the GUI is easier for some new age BG fans.
Options screen is complete. I only have the map, journal and store/inn screens left for BETA 6. Depending on the release of the new patch I may save the store/inn screen for the next BETA release in order to get BETA 6 out sooner. I need the next patch to come out and fix the journal issues before I can complete that screen.

Do what you will I'm happy with the work you're doing and can use it myself.
There I was thinking this is just a good copy+paste+change colour GUI..until I saw the improvements + beta6.. Holy Moly*&U$!($&#)!@#*(&! NICE WORK!! JUST NICE WORK!! U DESERVE ALL CAP!!
@DerDuKe - "Center the map in the map screen" - do you mean centering the map window? If so that wont work for all resolutions and settings. I might be offering centered window screens for HD settings later on.
Dang.. Well ,its no biggie as I dont spend hours looking at the start screen, but having the background images as an option would be awesome if possible . Still great work though.
The only things left to do are the Journal and some touch up work on the main GUI. I will then need a few days for some extensive testing, tweaking, and packaging the installer. If the fix for the Journal doesn't come soon then I will probably start the store/inn screens while we wait for the patch.
BETA 6 release is just around the corner - FINALLY!

BETA 6 STATUS: 70% Complete
Start Screen and BG Main Menu are now complete. The back and quit buttons are located in the same spot for easy navigation.

In this case, all WeiDU would be doing is copying over files anyway--it's actually just as easy to drop the files in the override yourself.
I look forward to the next release!
Features 26% more vertical map area compared to the vanilla world map screen. I decreased the saturation and the large borders on the map.
Really looking forward to "BETA"6. :-)

Still playing around with this one...
EDIT: I made the background of the inner border black to match that of the minimaps and it works pretty well.
