Is there any reason the frame rate can't be selectable under options? While editing the .ini is well and good, it seems better to code such a thing for the player's convenience.

I'd guess it's because they wanted to make sure it worked before they designed a UI field for it.
This patch deletes ALL JOURNAL QUEST ENTRIES FROM ALL SAVES!!!
More likely is that when the patch cleared out your third-party mods, some other error was caused, perhaps one causing the journal to display incorrectly.

I hope all these tweeks and fixin's get baked into the iPad version

Mmkay, quick question, before I download the update/patch, is there a good way to backup my current install? Can I just make a copy of the relevant game folders (the one in C:\Programs + the one in My Documents)? If some my game breaks post-update, can I simply replace the patched folders with the old ones?

Yes, you can make a backup of the entire game folder and filed in My Documents prior to patching. If something goes wrong when updating its possible to just copy the files prior to the update and overwrite the updated game folder.
Already noticed the backpack icon is now brown, only grey when there is no space; Blurry journal text also seems to be fixed. Will keep an eye on Neera's wild surges (Some seemed to do nothing pre-patch)
Ah yees.. nice to have a new patch already here too! : and that time, it worked totally flawlessly, nowhere near the mini nightmare i had with the previous launcher and previous update; here, flawless, excellent.
Now.. great to have the main new chars dialogues loops fixed apparently - was the most urgent indeed for new playthroughs i'd say.
Now.. just quickly, from my quick tests here: - keys '1...6' + 'm' (always) not working properly on keyboard azerty/fr - special class damages bonuses from special abilities (always) NOT appearing also on the stats; can be very confusing too (tested on swashbucklers / kenzai / bard blades offensives spins / etc ) ; would be great if we knew the damage bonuses there too (the AC/Thac0 bonuses do appear -even if not 'said'-, just not the damages bonuses.. and at lvl10 with a swash/kenzai(7) etc = +3/+2 dam auto.. not nothing either - tested at 160000xp with the console..) ). [nb: they DO exist/kenzais at least - easily tested with a 'kai'..just not appearing on screen stats so^]. - bard blades defensive spin seems (always) to be buggy at high levels (lv10 here) ; can move freely and even attack, and with a -24 AC (seems to work ok at lv1 though) -! - not sure if that was already in the original BG1/2 (don't remember), but i noticed also a weird thing, with pure fighters lv7+ (with console) ; they do get the 1/2 weapon speed bonus at lv7+, but _only_ with the weapons they have a 1 profeciency point in (not all - 0 profeciency points = 0 extra speed - weird).. not sure if that was already there, that too. -?!
Anyway.. great to know the main quests/new chars dialogues loops have been fixed and taking care of already.. a good thing in the right direction too.
i am sure the 2012 version will be perfect.. crossing fingers.

Have you noted that issue about Scratchy audio on movies after update 1.0.2009?
Some people are experiencing this problem here
http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/10353/stuttering-audio-on-movies#latest
Kinda strange as before that patch no audio problem was encountered.
And properly gnome wisdom penalty.
Edit: Turns out once I got new quests they all came back. Figures

Great work, Keep the patches coming ^^
