    More likely is that when the patch cleared out your third-party mods, some other error was caused.

    I dont have any third party mods either. The same thing happened to me. It's a good thing that I'm not seriously trying to complete the game while they are getting all these patches rolled out. It would drive me insane if my main game lost all my journal entries.
