Okay...this is the last place in the world that I ever thought I'd find myself, since I am in the minority of geeks/gamers/RPers who has no interest in anime whatsoever...
...that is, until one of my favourite Youtubers drew my attention to an anime called Maria the Virgin Witch.
This is set during the 100 years war, which basically began when King Henry V decided to make war on France for no reason at all, because he thought it'd be a very badass thing to do, and is famous for Joan of Arc, the Battle of Agincourt, and ultimately achieving nothing because most of the soldiers had to be diverted back home to fight the Wars of the Roses. The clothing is all very accurate (except for Maria herself and her fellow witches), to the point where you can even see the arming points on the soldiers' jacks! The armour and helmets are all perfect, and the combat actually looks like 15th century martial arts!
Although it's set in an actual period in history, it still has fantasy elements. There are witches and dragons, which kind of makes sense since there was a lot of superstition at that time, so this kind of explores a world where these "servants of Be'elzebub" did actually exist, and could do magic.
So...yeah, although I'm not much of an anime fan, this one looks quite good...even if the French are made into the good guys.
SCHOOL-LIVE! Focuses on the lives of 4 girls who decide to stay over at school: Yuki Takeya, Kurumi Ebisuzawa, Yuri Wakasa, and Miki Naoki. Along with the school adviser Megumi Sakura, they suddenly find themselves to be the final survivors of a zombie attack, and continue to live and survive at the school.
Ep. 05
Well that pretty much shreds any hope of Megu being among the living...
And since it was a Yuki flashback, I wonder if she was the only one around and watching when it happened. That would some what explain why she's so stuck on the Megu delusion.
Strange no mention of Overlord yet. It's a pretty standard fantasy anime, with the whole normal guy getting pulled into a video game world thing going on. The twists are 1. He's the only real human person pulled into the fantasy world, 2. He's a Lich and the head of a guild full of monsters, demons and other random non-humans.
Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist (Shimoneta for short) is a great watch. It's an ongoing anime like Overlord.
Imagine a world 20 minutes into the future where political correctness has run amok and merely saying a dirty word earns you an arrest. Anything related to sex has been banned and destroyed, causing youths to grow up absolutely clueless about how to to deal with affection, love, and puberty, along with everything they entail. But there is a revolt led by a few rebel teenagers to fight back against this uptight world and restore sexuality to its rightful place in human nature.
Wow. I never really liked this series, but it's relatively well regarded throughout fandom. So if they do go with the remake option, they have some serious walls to climb and nostalgia goggles to break for it to be acceptable to fandom.
I haven't been watching anime much in the last few years, so most of my favorites are the older programs. Bubblegum Crisis has long been my all time favorite, along with Gunslinger Girl, Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: SAC.
These days I'm more into Anime music than the shows, I love Yoko Kanno, Kenji Kawai, Joe Hisaishi, Susumu Hirasawa and Yuki Kaijura. I liked FLCL mainly for the Pillows music and I've got everything by Girls Dead Monster even though I've never seen Angel Beats!
Anyone who watched Toonami last night might've noticed that they didn't cut any of Parasyte's opening song.
I think they learned their lesson after Attack on Titan. XD
It's an awesome OP too! Though I really only like that part of the song, the rest of the full song is just kind of "ehh" (though there's a part near the end I kinda like).
We always play the full intro when a show premieres. Next week, it reverts to a shortened intro. Just necessary to be able to fit in the stuff that makes Toonami, Toonami.

I skipped Black Lagoon on purpose.

I'm impressed.
They're actually adding it to Amazon Instant Video already.
I figured Toonami would want more exclusivity than that.

And, in a hilarious case of stupefying irony, a Japanese watchdog group is complaining about the show because its too lewd. Self-awareness, much?

I wonder if CR will show this, or if we have to wait until Sentai releases their DVD/BDs of it.
Seriously though, I think it's harder to find someone who does *not* like her music, than otherwise.
