Now you see me ...

SamuelVargSamuelVarg Member Posts: 598
I have chosen to put up my true identity with name and picture here in the forum.
I seem to be the only one, more or less, who has done this.

Should we be more open in the forums with our true identities and have profile pictures of our self?

    We actually know what Quartz looks like, though. I'm pretty sure he posted an image of himself way back when.

    Hmm, maybe @Belgarathmth, though Im unsure exactly what anyone could do if they saw what you looked like... Or your first-name? That exactly *you* like Baldur's gate? It's not as if we talk about things which doesnt look good in the light of day =)

    For me anonymity is just more comfortable, as people tend to put a lot of prejudice into your appearance...

    Psssh. You're clearly Laharl, the *real* main character of the BG Saga.

    If I close my eyes, it doesn't exist anymore. (I haven't seen it, I think, so it doesn't shatter my steampunk vision.)

    Also another interesting question: Is @Samus the twin sister of Bhaaldog? :)

    One time, when I was working at a call center, a customer asked me about my heritage, and I answered her. Then, she asked me to describe myself. Yeah. :D

    the problem is not how much you reveal about yourself online,the problem is some idiots hiding behind nicks and posting unbelievable crap(haven't seen any on these forums but they seem common in other gaming forums),the internet would be better without nicks,only because people would never dare to behave as they sometimes do.

    I say no. Too much danger in it. Ever heard of identity theft?

    I would link my account to facebook if it didn't force me to use my real name and such.

    Hey, I've got a real pic of myself! Of course, that's only because it was already uploaded to whatever site it's pulling from back when I was writing for a video game blog, but I don't particularly care one way or the other to be honest.

    Identity theft is one thing. Online stalkers can be just as bad if not worse.
    Besides, who says the "real" picture I post of myself is actually of me?

    When Blizzard moved to the forums they have now, they were going to make people have their real names displayed instead of the character names from w/e game they were playing.

    The community backlash was so strong that they ended up stepping back from doing so. It's clear from this that people don't their personal info displayed on the Internet where they don't want it to be.

    I've been wanting to use franco all my life since the school teachers changed it to something less adventurous. I feel like we're all sitting around at a tavern in Baldur's Gate near a warm fire comparing some of our heroic tales, and other tales that are not so.

    Alas, my otherworldly beauty would surely leave everyone blinded and dazed, should I reveal myself. Therefore, out of my pronounced altruism and goodness, I chose to leave my unbelievably fair appearance concealed. :P

    A lot talk of identity theft. I am a semi-famous magician with a big blog in Sweden and I have never experienced that some one wants to steal my identity and use it on the internet.
    One ore two stalkers is all - and I can live with that.
  • KidCarnivalKidCarnival Member Posts: 3,747
    You clearly have never been cyberstalked.

    @SamuelVarg

    And how do we know you are who you say you are? Hmmm?

    I guess we take your word for it, hmmm?

    And if that is the case, what is the point? We are left with how people behave towards one another to tell their true character.

    You are free to do a background check on me. :-)

    I'm just very much pro a more open internet. I think we should behave as we when we socialice afk. I don't lite about my identity when I met people at a bar or on the street - even if there could be a thief.

    @SamuelVarg

    I guess my point is that behavior is a better indicator of "identity" than a name. But I respect your opinion.
  • SamuelVargSamuelVarg Member Posts: 598
    @secretmantra

    I agree on that is more important.
    But with anonymity bad behavior often comes alot easier - at least here in Sweden.
    We have a big problem with racist sites (as one of many examples) that only use alias in stead of the real names and identities.
