@Onestep why would you prefer Keldorn over Minsc?

Carsomyr. The Inquisitor kit being really powerful. I like his character too. And with Sarevok kicking around, having two characters who are only really good for their muscle is a bit excessive. Magic reigns supreme in Baldur's Gate after all. Those are the main reasons.

    Or am I missing something?

    Miniature Giant Space Hamster...
Boo doesn't have a +6 enchantment in ToB.

Don't get wrong, I like Misc. He's great comic relief and he's a solid bruiser through BG1 and Chateau Irenicus. It's just that I prefer Keldorn as a character. He has an interesting quest and is one of the better Paladins I've seen.

Also, Carsomyr. I can't repeat that enough.

Keldorn's probably the better choice, but I can't justify leaving Minsc from an RP point of view. I'm good, and I'm supposed to leave this mentally deficient man, who I've gotten tortured and his witch killed, and who's saved my life multiple times, by the side of the road? Nope, not gonna happen. (sigh) I do miss Carsomyr.. err, I mean Keldorn, though.

When playing as a good party with Keldorn and Minsc I always move Minsc over to dual-wielding so I can get the best mix of weapons in the group.

Minsc: Rune Hammer and Crom Faeyr. Oh yes.

Eh, he's just happy butt-kicking for justice, no matter where he is.

    If Abdel Adrian never existed...

What does the OP means with "If"?
  • EntropyXIIEntropyXII Member Posts: 656
@mlnevese 'If' as in 'If a Baldur's Gate novel was never written.'

WoTC should never have sanctioned it.. in my opinion of course.

All of my CHARNAMEs exist in parallel universes. The Doctor has had to swing by to fix a temporal fissure in my brain that nearly caused all of said universes to collide catastrophically. I hit on River Song, who was nice enough to let me down easy. It was a serious bummer all the same. Also, Iron Man showed up and punched Tarnesh in the nuts so that the bastard fell down the stairs of the Friendly Arm clutching his junk. Hilarious.

...Yes, I honestly ponder things like this.

Did he quip something witty at Tarnesh before departing through a wormhole?

Silly me, of course he did.

He should have kicked Marl in the balls before going into a wormhole.

    Silly you, indeed!

I was laughing so hard I had to lean on Kagain so as not to fall over, but I think I heard the Man d'Iron say "Make a concentration check for me, pajama-pants. DC 5 trillion." as he landed the blow.

I REFUSE to accept Abdel Adrian as the canon protagonist. I'm writing my own Baldur's Gate fanfic to rectify that.

My CHARNAME is a Lawful Good fighter who goes by the name of Ralis Rutela. In his early childhood, he used to be Chaotic Neutral aligned, uninentionally being a troublemaker and stuff, like stealing Khelben Blackstaff's cape and running around naked with it, but Gorion sets him straight, helping Ralis become Lawful Good before the taint in his blood would turn his personality for the worst. He starts off relatively innocent, but his personality hardens once exposed to the outside world and it's cold hearted inhabitants, like losing friends to people with evil intentions, or even hearing about his friends losing their loved ones to some heartless shmuck, it makes him want to kill those who would harm innocents to get money or iron with extreme prejudice, for example, he killed Mulahey, Davaeorn's apprentice, Thaldorn, Rieltar, Brunos and Angelo in cold blood, which in turn gives more energy to the taint in his blood. His drive to punish those that kill inncoent people for money and iron are subtly influenced by the taint in his blood, which drives him to murder without mercy. He also murdered in self defense, like against Marl, for example, and Aldeth Sashenstar in Cloakwood because he sided with Seniyad instead of Aldeth.

He travels with not just the canon BG1 group, but also Ajantis, Viconia, Coran and Safana, including the Enhanced Edition characters, Neera, Dorn and Rasaad. Kivan, Xan, and Yeslick temporarily join Ralis, but they died-- Kivan died helping Ralis and the others assault the bandit camp trying to find Tazok to avenge his deceased mate, Xan got killed by Centeol's poisonous spiders and Yeslick accidentaly got killed by Neera's wild magic in the Cloakwood mines.

Throughout his adventures, Ralis had to learn not to give in to his hatred of the Iron Throne and everyone who works for them and learn forgiveness, something that Tamoko is trying to encourage him to feel when she requested that he stop Sarevok's plans but leave him alive. Although he still clings to the idea of getting his revenge on Sarevok, Ralis has partially embraced the idea of redeeming him, so there's still an internal clash of the drive to mercilessly murder his enemies and to allow them a chance at redemption. Ralis sees them as monsters but he has to realize that he himself is a monster as much as they are until he learns to let them turn over a new leaf.

My CHARNAME is much less one dimensional than Abdel.

I don't understand why people say that the Bhaalspawn "Murders" his enemies when they are good aligned.

Even fighting against Marl requires lethal force since he can't crush your iron helmeted skull with his fists.

I refuse to discuss the number of dimensions a character has, especially with the author of said character. However, I can confirm the number of eyes of the canon charname, and that is 7. No story will ever convince me that "MY charname is canon" because there is no canon that holds true longer than the playthrough. The next run will have a new canon. And as I said somewhere else (here? other thread?), if someone was to write a serious, non-Beholder Paladin novel about the BG1 events, the charname that makes the most sense to me is also one of the kits and alignments I'd never play. What makes the best/most interesting gameplay isn't automatically the logical choice for a novel.

He doesn't attack you with his fists, he has a dagger.

@GandalfPortraitGuy: People say "murder" because that's the rep all Bhaalspawn have, whether justified or not. You are, after all, the offspring of a deity associated with assassins.

You know, I used to consider game novels a bit of a guilty pleasure once, but more the ones that filled in gaps between games rather than just re-tell the game on paper. But I looked this thing up and just wow... the summary of the main character seems like something you'd find in the darkest pits of fanfiction-dot-net o_O Glad I passed that one over haha

Tell me about it. Honestly, who the hell played the game like that? From a pure profit point of view, they should have written him as a neutral good fighter, taking the standard "good guy" path. It would have covered the plurality of people's playthroughs.

I could forgive the characterization of the PC...I really could, since it depends on the player....IF they hadn't F'd up everything else. There was no reason to make %^&# up when just playing through the game and novelizing the playthrough would've made a perfect story, and been far better accepted by fandom.

The reason the novels are so hated is that they directly contradict the story of the game itself, along with flat out changing characters with extremely well defined personalities, backstories, and appearances, rendering the novels non-canon by default, no matter WHO tries to say otherwise.

@Magnus_Grelich - Well i'm trying to be careful. The writer of those novels is obviously a BG fan and for all I know he could be any one of you :-O

    -paranoia-
