Should There Be More Race Specific Kits ?

Now that the Dwarf Only Kit Dwarven Defender is available
Should there be more Race Specific kits
I was thinking of a Fighter Truesword kit for good alignment halflings
Or Bladesinger for elves
Or Shamen for 1/2 orcs
Should there also be gender specific kits ?
What ones would you like to see ?
thank you for your time

Both would be welcome, as long as they're cool to play, rather than powergaming.

Blackguard kit for half-orcs as a general rule would be nice, as opposed to a lonely NPC.

    Isn't that a bit racialist?

Not sure if you meant racist , then the game already has race only and racist elements to it
we now have a Dwarf only kit
only humans can be paladins and monks
    only humans can duel class
    Humans can not multi class
but any other race can multi-class
Shar Teel is a violent man hater
    Safana is a floozy
But still they are just toons

It's a joke. It's what Ali G used to say. Guess it's a wee bit passé.

I could go for some new classes

Humans - Warlock (as close to 3e version as you can get)
Elves - Bladesinger (High Dex-based fighter)
Half-Elves - Spellsword (Bard or fighter/mage-based kit that uses a sorcerer spell casting style with special spell selections)
    Dwarves - Dwarven Defender
Halflings - Wildfoot Loner (A cool Thief/Ranger hybrid that can pick a favoured enemy)
Gnomes - Trickster (Thief kit that looses backstab but gains access to spells like Teleport Field and Invisibility 10' radius)
    Half-Orcs - Blackguard

Very much needed for halfling, gnome, and half Orc. They have less choices. Elves have more options.

Race only kits, yes. It would make it more interesting to play a different race than usual and some races have few options as it is.

Bladesinger or Arcane Archer for elves would be nice; a non-fighter kit for dwarves (I really just want a dwarf skald; it matches the norse theme so well and it does bother me that the norse inspired kit can't be a dwarf); a barbarian or druid kit for half orcs.

Gender only kits, no. That's just stupid.

Hmm.. Since it's the Middle Ages/Renaissance, wouldn't that make Females unable to be physicians?

id love a halfling kit, but to be honest id mostly just like new play options for halflings wether they were race specific or not

i always liked the idea of a halfling bard type of class

halflings have a woeful amount of class choices in BG id like to see that improved

Apart from it isn't. It's a mythical fantasy land loosely based on it.

It would be cool if every race had a couple of race-specific kits, although I imagine it may be tricky to balance them all to the point where they're different enough from other classes to warrant being a separate kit while at the same time being viable.

Arcane Archer would be damn fun though :D

    More stuff = good
That's the extent of my contribution to this discussion

How would it actually be different from the existing archer kit?? The two are very similar, and that's more or less how I would have implemented arc arch.

Give halforc a multi sorcerer Druid, call it adept, or shaman. Give halfling a slinger kit, and give gnomes... Hmmm. Dunno, bard?

No, more kits doesn't interest me at all. Should I wish for something it would be a new multiclass C-M-T. I know it's not PnP, but still wish for such class.

I think just opening up class restrictions would be a good idea. I always thought it was weird that my halfling could be a cleric even though he gets a penalized wisdom score. Or that my dwarf can be a thief with his gimped dexterity. Why not let the dwarf or halfling be mages if they want? They have good intelligence scores. Why not a halfling bard, why not a gnome monk, why not a dwarf paladin? And before you say "just download a mod for it lol" the reason I got EE was so I didn't have to go through the trouble of modding. Yes I know how to apply mods that isn't the issue either.
ps. sorry for coming off defensive, I am tired of having the same argument about modding and thought I would nip it in the bud.

Not a fan. No gender only kits, and no more specific race only kits. please.

I would have never even realized there was dwarven defender kit if it wasn't for the forums. I would like to see the option atleast blackedout with all other races so everyone else sees that it exists.

Also, not a fan of putting time and effort into creating a kit or kits that only a low percentage of people will ever use.

I did make a poll to see what race people normally play. http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/17040/racism-at-its-finest-story-spoilers/p1

    260 votes TOTAL

116 votes for Humans (18 nonvotes puts the percentage at 49% so basically half)
    66 for Elf
    22 for Half-Elf
    17 for Dwarf
    10 for Half-Orc
    5 for Hafling
    3 for Gnome

****Please don't waste time and money on features most people won't use. Leave that for modders, who are extremely talented and do quite a good job.

It was, in Unearthed Arcana~ I'm with you. That'd be cool.

@strayedmonkey one reason people avoid halfling, gnome, and half Orc is the heavy restrictions on class choices. And the reason so many play human is a combination of unlimited class choices/exclusive classes, in addition obviously to dual classing.

So yeah, maybe if the brutally restricted races were less restricted, they would be chosen more.
  • IkMarcIkMarc Member Posts: 552
No just general kits, otherwise we won't be able to dualclass them!!!! ;)
  • NifftNifft Member Posts: 1,065
    More variety is good.

Race-specific kits are actually less variety than general kits, though, because you can only play one kit+race combo if the kit is race-specific.

I absolutely loathe race specific classes and kits. One thing I loved about 3rd edition was the elimination of racial limitations for classes. I could be a half-orc wizard, I could be a halfling sorcerer, I could be a gnome monk, it was awesome. Say what you want about 3rd edition but getting rid of class limitations for races was a very welcomed change.

So, short answer, no thank you. I have enough limitations by my race as it is in 2nd edition.
  • DreadKhanDreadKhan Member Posts: 3,857
@necomancer 3rd had very strict restrictions on some prestige classes, and kits are comparable to them. I think all races should get an arcane option though, maybe a witch doctor kit for half orcs. Damnit, race specific kits make uninteresting choices of race interesting... Half Orc is kinda boring ATM. Woo, 19 str! Wait, I have no other bonuses?? Erm...
  • FinneousPJFinneousPJ Member Posts: 6,455
Yeah, I also think kits are like the 3rd ed PRCs, which are often very restrictive. It's fun, but I wouldn't mind unlocking all base classes for all races in BG.

New kits or subraces? (Tiefling, Drow...)
    HELL YES!

Restrict the kits to races you might not play, because you don't enjoy them?
    HELL NO!

no subraces as tiefling or drow in my opinion because a npc should comment on that. they would even hate u for it it would require rewriting a lot of dialog to make sense and overhaul cant do that.
