I tried to pick his pockets, instant death. I punched him in the face, instant death. I steal some gold from a rich dandy, instant death. Ok, fine my behaviour is somewhat uncouth but still, isn't that a bit harsh?

Maybe he's just old and mistook capital punishment for corporal punishment.

    At first I read "Gorion's d**k" and was like what the... :D That is candle keep. Harsh but produces individuals. Don't be confused that the wizards and clerics there are soft. See Ulraunt(the keeper of Candlekeep) for example.
