Or Hasbro. I read they sued Atari to get the D&D license back. Somehow Atari kept the rights to BG so maybe this is Hasbro trying to get everything back? A theory but whatever the cause I hope it is solvable and we eventually get BG2 EE!

Very good point. I'd wager Beamdog was ultimately caught in the legal clusterfuck that's currently happening behind the scenes between the major players.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to channel away my disappointment by rolling a Fighter and hacking away at some Gibberlings who chose a really bad day to pester me.
@Shadowdemon - If this is the case are Hasbro the good guys or bad guys?
I guess we will see. If it is them then I will consider them 'good' if they let Overhaul continue and also do more with the D&D/BG license than Atari did (wouldn't take much). I've always had a problem with Atari because they haven't done squat with the license since they acquired/stole the license from Interplay/Black Isle 10 years ago.
I think now I understand, though, why no one ever remade this game. It seems that everything Dungeons and Dragons related gets caught up in some inane sort of legal trouble. I don't believe there is any one particular person to point fingers at, in the end.
So that makes it all clear as to why this beautiful game was never given a full remake. IMO though, it's highly unfortunate that when we finally got the "remake" we were waiting for, we instead got this over-glorified, slightly more professional version of TuTu.
That said though, it's very unfortunate this is happening *right now.* This series' modding community has always been awful at understanding the atmosphere and spirit of Baldur's Gate 1, yet excellent at doing just that with Baldur's Gate II. What I'm saying is, I think this over-glorified, slightly more professional version of TuTu would be awesome with BGII:EE, while it was significantly less awesome with BG1:EE.
I really tried to like this game. But after a good six months of playing BG:EE and, yes, enjoying it a fair bit, I found myself giving BG1 Vanilla another spin and, while I missed the 3 new NPCs and the gem bag/scroll case/potion case, other than that I enjoyed it more than BG:EE and am continuing to. I still fire up BG:EE, I mean why not? It's certainly not a bad attempt or anything. I just think it fails to understand the spirit of BG1, that's all. Everything they added feels very BGII-esque in nature.
Which, again, is why I really, *really* want to see BGII:EE. It will probably kick ass. I'm sure barely anything would look out of place there, because again, these guys seems to be good at understanding BGII's spirit. ...Unlike BG1. Honestly I feel like the game was kind of vomited upon. Though I've got to say, the online multiplayer actually working is a HUGE blessing and is certainly the best aspect of the game.
Anyway so there's just me being honest. I know a lot of people will hate me for all that but that's okay, they're allowed. It's a strong and very uncommon opinion so I know I'm going to attract a lot of hate.
That said, Overhaul/Beamdog, good luck with all this garbage. You are all incredibly brave for ever even attempting to do *anything* with this game that is completely overrun with legal trouble. Here's to your victory, and BGII:EE.
I don't think a petition would be of much help at the moment.

What about crying? Will it help if I cry? Because I will do that for you guys. Also, I will bake cookies. Chocolate chip with Oreos inside. Or cupcake cookies. Or cupcake cookies with Birthday Cake Oreos inside.
This is precicely the reason why Kickstarter and Indiegogo are such powerful tools. That way the developers do not get entangled in the petty problems of major publishers. There is only 1 possible issue here: Money. Someone wants more, someone else does not feel like parting with more. And the devs are caught in the middle, without any fault of theirs. Typical.
I am sure you have had dealings with bureaucrats in the past, how optimistic are you that this will be settled and we will once again see patches and eventually BG:2?
We're very optimistic that it will be resolved, it's just a matter of when. We've put a lot of work into BG2:EE as well as BG1:EE, and we don't want to see that energy to go waste.
@Dee Well, its good to hear that you all think it will get taken care of eventually, although I am sure some of you are ready to put your fist through a wall right now, I know I would be.
We recently removed Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition from sale on Beamdog and the Apple App Store. We've taken this step at our publishing partner's request as we attempt to resolve a number of contractual issues.
Unfortunately, until this matter is resolved, we are unable to release the latest Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition patch or Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition for Android.
This also prevents the launch of Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. I sincerely apologize to the series' fans and promise we are working diligently to remedy the situation.
Regards, Trent Oster President, Beamdog & Overhaul Games
Baldursgate.com has additional information in a FAQ. Believe me when I say we're extremely unhappy about this. We didn't have confirmation of this until today, and it is indeed sad news.
We will work through this issue, but we don't know when.
Dislike !
knowing how the gaming industry works and seeing the so many project that never saw dayligh, I'm afraid that BG2 EE will never happen.. I am saddened to hear that being a huge fan of the series and after ging through BG EE like a junkie...
