I want to ask the users that has as preference the option 1. Why do you want content for BG2, a game that all of you played already dozens of times? I mean, the same contents could be added on the next baldur's gate. Why do you prefer adding extra content to something already overwhelming instead of a fresh new game where everything is new? I for sure enjoy BG, but the fresh feeling of the new quests and characters fades as soon as I have to redo again the Nalia's quest, the Irenicus dungeon, the Amaunator's ruins, all the neverending underworld... wouldn't it be more pleasant to have a full new game with all those characters and stories skipping those places? After all old missions can be played in the original game.
I can understand BG1/2 EE to be some proof to see if they are capable of continuing with the saga, adding new experiencies to give a fresh air, but I believe it's not necessary anymore. I personally don't want to play all the underword once again because the DLC gave me a new character and three extra missions.
Don't know about how others feels, but for me it's just that I'm getting old. I just don't have the patience to get into a new game anymore. Back in 2000, spending all day on a new game was great fun. Now, there's a long list of things I'd rather do with my time. When I do play video games, I don't want to bother having to learn something new, but I still want to have fun at the same time. The BG games provide that since they're familiar enough at this point that I don't have to think too hard about it (I get enough of that with work, female drama, etc) while at the same time they provide enough variety with character customization, NPCs, number of quests, role-playing options, and mods that I don't get sick of it.
It would be awesome, if they could get to make an enhanced edition of Arcanum.
If they make Arcanum:EE I will give them ALL my money.
Which isn't a lot, but hey, the thought counts.
I'm not clamouring for a BG3. Definitely not with a Bhaalspawn continued storyline. Project: Eternity is coming out next year, as is Divinity: Original Sin so I think I'm set for BGesque RPG's. And while I love the team at Beamdog, considering the effort just changing an existing game cost, having them make an RPG the size of BG2 (but newer and fancier) might be a bit too much to ask for.
I would really really want a Planescape Torment: Enhanced Edition, because this game sadly didn't age well. People keep telling me how awesome the story and everything is but the controls and the walking speed always annoyed me so much that I never even got to the rag-collector-place (or whatever the english name was).

Walking speed? You can run in that game. It's a lot faster than in BG pre-boots of speed.
*skips other posts* Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition! I would LOVE to show Yxunomei what-for at the end of two weapons ensorcelled to harm her, one in each hand, while a Wild Mage causes her Magic Resistance to overdraw, and a Thief lures her followers into a hallway full of traps after clipping her butt with a club. and fix the random treasure generation so I can get vanilla stuff too, also, thx
1: Make lots and lots of DLC and Expansions for BGII/TOB.
There are a LOT of stories still to tell - gaps between BG1 and BG2, gaps between BG2 and TOB, more DLC characters, Watcher's Keep-style dungeons, etc. They've already done the groundwork with the engine and proven that they can write, so they might as well build up some revenue with some quality downloadable content.
Maybe do a "Season Pass" option to include, say, 2 new NPCs, one 4-hour adventure, and a massive optional dungeon all to be released over time. I've been loving the overwhelming majority of Beamdog's new BG2 content so far and would really like to see more of it.

This.

Just switch BG2 with BG1 and Watcher's keep with Durlag's Tower, BG1 need some more love!! There are a lot of adventure mods to BG2, no so for BG1...
I dont care much for Enhanced Editions of IWDI+II And PT. Dont get me wrong, I like the originals but I dont see the need for them - since new content seems difficult/game breaking to me here.
I think first they should keep patching BGI+II and release Adventure Y as independent Module like the Black Pits.
Then/parallel start work on new seperate stand-alone adventures(DLCs) for both BG+BGII to make money and finally make their own infintiy engine game set in the forgotten realms - be it BGIII or something completly new:)
1. without any question. until 1 is finished (not only new content, existing new content could also use some additions and polishing ) there can be no debates about options 9. or 7.
even after 1. i think 2. would be logical step before 7. or 9.
I think I might agree with @Frkun on this one. My initial reaction when I read this thread was, "Obviously 1!" Having thought about it, I think it would be much cooler and way more awesome to use this interface that they have developed and make a BG3 type game. Not a sequel, but a game with a different character that uses the interface that they have worked so hard to create.
This allows the freedom to create all new quests and have any NPCs of their choosing without the gamer having to learn new controls or figure out how to operate things. We have already seen what they are capable of with BP and BP2, and frankly, I would be damn excited to see what would be released as a completely independent game.
So my preference would be for the bugs to be polished, but afterwards, all of these ideas for new content I think should be saved and bundled up into a new game completely - a game that has controls and an interface that we are all familiar with but a story that none of us have heard.
I'm honestly not interested in new content for BG1 and BG2. Just keep patching these games until they're in an almost perfect state. Plus, the contract they have may not allow them to create new content for BG1 or BG2 (I don't know).
I think that any new content should be saved for a brand new game (whether BG3 or a different game).
If they do BG3, people will be SOOOO excited, but expectations will be SOOO freaking high that I'm worried lots of fans will be disappointed (no way to avoid this really - I guess the goal is to please more than they disappoint).
If they make another game besides BG3, interest and sales will probably be MUCH lower, but there is less risk of disappointing the fan base (which can be very fickle, and also vocal, if they don't like something).
I still think Overhaul's first priority, after fixing all bugs in BG:EE and BG2:EE, should be IWD:EE and IWD2:EE with all sub-races and kits added to both games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@roachtbp Not sure if you are aware but at the top right corner of your first post there should be a gear symbol. If you click that, then click "edit", you can edit your post.
My two ideas would be: 1.) continue to increase the quality of content on BG:EE and BG2:EE. There are still some bugs and items not working as intended. 2.) Start another enchanted Edition, for example I would asume that #Arcanum is similar in the gfx engine. It's a mix between steampunk and magic and could very much benefit from the same team which also really did an amazing job in overhauling the BG series. Maybe you could also think of continueing the series with BG3 or Icewind Dale.
I heard a rumor that Overhaul might be taking on the Ultima franchise. Not sure how much truth there is to that, or how you would make an enhanced edition of those first 6 games without rewriting the whole engine
This thread should be renamed FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS
All the decisions seem exciting, but here's what I personally would like (it is asking a lot though):
Another game, set in the Forgotten Realms (if possible) with the Infinity Engine or some variation thereof. Honestly, the Bhaalspawn story is settled, unless they make an in-between from BG and SOA (would be nice to get back some older voice actors to include like a Xan or a Branwen, etc.) A Baldur's Gate 3 could really spoil the story (which had a satisfying and very CONCLUSIVE ending imo). The characters have made their journey and even had cool conclusion endings that specifically show them NOT related to the Bhaalspawn. It would be a shame to ruin this, and we've all seen many stories dragged out to the point where they become absurd (Lost season 6)
If it is a different story, they should set it in another FR location (like Calimshan or something), or even better, multiple locations (asking for a lot). It would be cool to get a cameo or two. Maybe even see some of the characters that did not appear in BG2/TOB like Branwen, Xan, etc.
If they can't get a FR license, then another location. If not a popular D&D setting (Planescape, Greyhawk, that Dragonlance thingamajig, etc), they can create their own world. As long as it is isometric, rtwp or some other variation of the IE I'd be happy.
As far as story, I'd like to see a tale that more involved you, the character, personally. Icewind Dale characters were blank slates, while Dragon Age characters were just a hero who happened to be the right guy at the right time in a generic adventure. The idea of the story being about YOU is awesome in BG, and makes the journey more epic. Your character cannot be replaced by another generic hero, and that is awesome. A story that meets that criteria has potential in a game for me.

I will buy such a game.

Then move on to do Planescape Torment EE
2. Release Icewind Dale EE (include all sub-races from IWD2 and all kits from BG2, plus a few new items - that's all they need to do in my book)
3. Release Icewind Dale 2 EE (the sub-races are already present, so they only need to add the kits from BG2, plus a few new items)
