Is there any particular reason a new Barbarian NPC would have to be male? Just saying.

Prolly would depend on the tribe/clan or whatever. I really like the portrait from BGEE of the taller girl with the feather in her hair and hide armor. It would match a female barbarian. I was kinda disappointed that portrait is not in BG2EE

No, a Barbarian would be stronger for all of the first few levels, after which Rasaad the non-barbarian, who's actually kind of awesome, would catch up, surpass, and run a few rings around his Barbarian compatriot.

I disagree. Both monks and barbarians cap at level 8 in BGEE, and I think a level 8 barbarian is still more powerful than a level 8 monk. I feel monks are quite unimpressive until about 15+ levels.

@FinneousPJ do you think the devs failed one of the EE NPCs, so you don't trust them? I think even Baeloth is amazing. Neera is amazing, Hexxat is good, Dorn is o.k. Why the devs should fail with the barbarian NPC?

@DarkDogg That's not what I meant, really. I think all the NPCs are fine, I just meant I cannot do a comparison of Rasaad vs. and imaginary NPC, since I cannot know what the imaginary barbarian would be like.

Now that Rasaad is a Sun Soul Monk, he's not that bad at all. I quite enjoyed having him in my last BGEE party.

Making Rasaad a barbarian makes no sense, for reasons others have mentioned.

However, I do think that it would be nice for BGEE and BG2EE to have a female, neutral, barbarian. There aren't enough NEUTRAL warriors in either game, and not enough FEMALE warriors in BG2.

crevs, stop roleplaying your God of Chaos thing! and try writing a spoiler again. but do it the right way. I broke another thread by doing an incorrect spoiler and then fixed it i think by doing that. or it just went to the next page.

It happens when you close a spoiler tag without opening it, and when it's turned into HTML the extra closing tag breaks out of the div that the comments are in. I trust that everyone will use this knowledge responsibly...

oh, and it can't be fixed by adding more spoiler tags, I think. The container is already broken.

@nano could you edit the post and close it?

most polls i've seen only ask which is your favourite bg2EE npc.

While Rasaad is often bottom of these it doesn't mean he's least popular it just means that he's fewest people favorites
  • nanonano Member Posts: 1,632
@booinyoureyes Yeah, if the original comment is fixed all will be well. I see @CrevsDaak did that :)

Sorry again @booinyoueyes @nano, but I have to say it; I did it totally intentional and aware of the consequences :/ Also, I think I am not the only ultra-random guy around here, a friend just called me and told me (besides much more things that made total sense for you humans) that a christmas adorn and a painting by Joan Miró could save me from a zombie apocalypse.

I would like the option to Mummify Rasaad, put extra swaddling on his fists and bring him back as my personal car valet and fence painter...

    Wax on, wax off...

    ...

Then of course I would teach him the flying crane kick and we would spend eternity happy in our little pyramid.

    ...

Do I want him to be a Barbarian? No. But if Beamdog put one in... I want the option to Mummify him too... It is just my stock and trade.

@Anduin you are forgetting the part with the ruling Gnomish madgnome.

Rasaad is fine as he is.
Another NPC - a Barbarian would be welcome though. (Chaotic Neutral Female Dwarf Barbarian with both romances)

Leave him as a monk who looks like the guy from Toy-Box, I say. Give us a Barbarian that isn't a Dwarf or a Half-Orc, but a Human, or something! Maybe a Chondathan.

Monks bore the hell out of me. I'd rather drag Garrick's corpse around than use Rasaad.
  • SylphSylph Member Posts: 210
    Change him? No.
    Replace him? No.
He's pretty much my favourite thing about the EE's :D

Voted no for some of the same reasons that others have already said. Raasad is a monk -- he is on a spiritual quest -- making him a barbarian would require a complete rewrite.

I'm not sure why there is so much enthusiasm for a barbarian NPC. I'm not dead-set against it but I'd rather see the devs work on another class. I think the game needs another fighter class like Athkatla needs another lich -- the number of fighters in the game is too damn high!

You've got, what, 7 single class fighter NPCs: Minsc, Mazzy, Keldorn, Korgan, ToB spoiler, Raasad and Valygar.

2 or three Dual / Multi class -- Jaheria and Anomen (and possibly Yoshimo)

and 2 other frontliners: Haer'Dalis and Cernd (not than anyone uses either)

So anywhere from 7 to 11 fighters / frontliners

Compare that to 4 thieves: Hexxat, Jan, Imoen, and Yoshimo.

And 3 clerics -- Aerie, Viconia, Anomen

Besides, Minsc is essentially a barbarian without the armor restrictions and both Korgan and
    Wilson
have access to the rage ability. Plenty of items in the game give resistances so, barbarians are kinda covered both in terms of story and abilities. Besides
Wilson is an articulate, erudite bear with lots of heart -- what's not to love?

What the game needs are more single class clerics and single class thieves. I'd like to see the devs send an email poll to everyone who bought the game asking what class they should work on.
  • booinyoureyesbooinyoureyes Member Posts: 6,164
Why does everyone keep saying we need more clerics? This seems to be a very popular opinion, yet we already have three clerics while there is only 1 bard, no neutral fighter type, one pure druid with a stupid broken kit, no barbarian and no sorcerer.

One cleric change I would love to see is more kits (like in the Divine Remix mod) to add more of the pantheon. It would be cool to make Viconia have some Shar abilities.

@booinyoureyes because people hate Anomen, dislike Aerie's slow spell progression and Viconia is evil, there are som that also hate Aerie and some that dislike Viconia becase of her STR (and people don't complains about that when it comes to Aerie....)

And, I hate Aerie's attitude, dislike Anomen too and I want to play an good party AND to use Keldorn, and I have no Cleric (go away with the Druids, those folks sucks, I can't see why Baator they've got so bad lvl2 spells!!!!).

    @killerrabbit

A longsword wielding cleric of the Red Knight would be very nice. They can be good, neutral, or evil. And monks are known to worship her...
  • killerrabbitkillerrabbit Member Posts: 402
A red knight cleric could be fun -- she could give advice on tactics for upcoming battles. The halfling cleric idea is also good -- she and Mazzy might have some interesting interactions.

I'd most like like to see a cleric of mystra. In Amn the religion would have to be underground (as in secret). And that could make for some interesting interactions with Keldorn. What would an inquisitor think of a good deity who promotes illegal activities?

  • jackjackjackjack Member Posts: 3,251
Hate em or love em, the fact is this game is flush with Cleric NPCs. Give me a Skald/Barbarian and I'll shut up, (for awhile).
  • Xar105Xar105 Member Posts: 112
Not a barbarian but he has strong competition, Dorn 2-hand dark guardian who has very good story and he is good fighter too. Rasaad should be a kensai who can fight with dual wield katanas and can make him dual-class with mage. Story should be more orient style, where he talk to us about his culture and society.
  • GamingFreakGamingFreak Member Posts: 639
he still has 16 strength. 16 strength on a barbarian? Passable.

I'm shocked at how many people are seriously considering Rasadgar of the Sun Soul Tribe. Its surreal.

We can just... make a new character, guys.

The hypothetical barbarian NPC should be a female ghostwise halfling.

if you changed him to a barbarian, then you wouldn't have a monk NPC
