#7398 [CORE] - Garren Windspear suffering from premature exposition?

edited January 2014 in BGII:EE Bugs (v1.2.2030)
Problem: Rather than fight an army of monsters alone, my solo character walked past them and went to deliver some acorns. In his exploration, he found Firkraag ruins (locked), and then left, back towards the middle of the map, where he exterminated the rest of the transmonstered knights.

As usual, sirrah Windspear shows up. Solo character refuses his hospitality and he left.

At this point, the map shifted to the fog of war'd ruins entrance (far, far away from CHARNAME) and gave his spiel about his child being kidnapped.

Expected behaviour: Even if previously explored, Garren should probably wait until he gets home (and the player is actually physically at the ruins) before hassling the player about his wayward waif.

@Pantalion presumably you were under invisibility to start with?

    @Illydth @Troodon80 repro'd and raised as 7398.
    Thanks

Barbarian. I outran them all after the "let's fight" conversation.

I had the same issue with a normal party. I cast haste and ran past the "monsters", explored the whole map, returned and killed the "monsters". Garren shows up and offers hospitality. Map shifts to fog-of-war cabin as described and Windspear talks about his kidnapped child.

This is possibly related to another bug, Garren not being present in his cabin after you free his child & kill Firkraag, which I've posted here:
    http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/31880/garren-windspear-not-present-at-end-of-windspear-quest?new=1

    Expected behavior according to sorcerers.net:
Garren should offer hospitality, then (the bug skips everything after a *):
*party is moved to cabin and enters it
*Garren gives dialogue about owning land & clearing your name
    *Garren's child gives dialogue
    *party auto-rests
    *Jum appears to warn you
    *bandits steal Garren's child
    *party defeats bandits
(THEN Garren arrives and bemoans the loss of his child)
*Jum returns and gives you Firkraag's Challenge item

@Troodon80 Thanks for your response, here's the save file with Garren missing, as requested.

@Micalabre, remarkably, I cannot find him anywhere. Your only option, I'm afraid, is to use the console to spawn him.
    C:CreateCreature("GARREN")
You wouldn't happen to still have an earlier saved game, you you?

Interestingly, @Gate70, I noted that Hayes and Malaaq appeared in a saved game posted here. Hayes also appears in this saved game, but in AR1200 instead of the Underdark.

The beggar has turned into a Wild Mage! D:
What is Hayes' CRE file-name? I'd like to take a look at his BCS.

That's the only thing that could be causing this, but I've seen it working fine. I'll search for the scripts causing him to spawn now.

Edit: Nothing else :| Looks like it's like The Curse of the Beggar but with Hayes now.

I think someone said this might have been the panic behaviour for the beggar. @Avenger_teambg‌ from memory.

The other option is that his script tells him to move to the player. I'm not sure what would happen if you transition areas before he gets there?

@Troodon80‌ I tried to replicate the bug once and failed. I spoke with the werewolves (and killed most, maybe all of them), clicked on the entrance to the dungeon, and entered the cabin, then killed the knights, but the game proceeded as normal.

I tried a second time and did all of the above, but was careful to kill every werewolf and also delivered the acorns to the dryad before killing the knights (which the original poster also mentions). This time the bug occurred exactly as before, triggering the "my son is captured' dialogue immediately after the initial "hospitality" dialogue ends.

I've attached "bug testing 1" just before killing the last knight, and "bug testing 2" just after the buggy dialogue occurs (actually, I had to wait for the "first Garren" to walk back to his cabin; he did not disappear when entering fog, as confirmed by catching up with him & lack of save/rest ability.)

(Note that I tested this by loading a save about 6 game days earlier than my save file above, so the Hayes bug may or may not have occurred yet.)
