Is it a stick? Or is it a piece of string attached to an invisible balloon? Or possibly just a white balloon which is blending in perfectly with the sky.
Possibly we could get Imoen to fight it. Kobolds might count as small rodents and thus smote? smited? smitten? smoted? er.. struck down by the power of her belt.
Although if kobolds in fact don't count as small rodents then Imoen could be facing a dangerous stick. Or possibly balloon.
@karnor00 Actually, Kobolds are very dog-like (so says the description of their race, all the way back from 1e). So imagine them as the small, yappy Chihuahuas of the BG world- or maybe a Mexican hairless. I see a resemblance to the "ugliest dog in the world" for several years:
Kobold: They do make barking noises…. And they seem to have become more lizard-like over time in the D&D world. But "small dog-like humanoids" has always been their shtick, to me.
Well according to wikipedia (I know, I know!), Kobolds are part reptile, distantly related to dragons. So not dogs. Other than, as LadyRhian points out, looking and sounding doglike...
But either way, there certainly seems to be no rodent connection. I think I was confusing them with Skaven from the Warhammer universe - a criticial miscalculation when attempting to rely on a +rodent belt.
@karnor00 well, a dnd kobold Is a little different than one that might come from somewhere else. Kobold is actually the German word for goblin, so I guess it can be used as a generic term. I believe dnd just took the word and standardized it into a specific kind of monster, like they did with goblin, demon, elf, whatever.
If anyone can name Neil Gaiman's Kobold (in spoiler tags, natch) in American Gods they get bonus insightfuls. Hint: He appears human. None of this lizard/dog nonsense.
Going back to the choose your own adventure bit, does this little guy have a character portrait and is he joinable? He looks pretty cute (In a puppy kind of way, not a Jessica Alba kind of way). Is the stick actually a wand - is this dude a Kobold Shaman? Healer alert.
@Anduin Only confront him if you wish to. It's not necessary to lose an appendage, but you can't decide which part to lose ahead of time. Witness poor old Lord Arnold, from "Matty Groves", who lost a really important part he never wanted to part with. In fact, if you lose this most important part, you will never have to worry about "sowing" ever again, especially your wild oats!
As I see it your two most effective weapons are: a) Sarcasm (you have proficiency and 30 charisma, them's some cutting barbs) b) The Rulebook - high % chance to be crit with a wall of text.
Is this the first situation you cannot woo your way out of?
Man! I read all in one time and I laughed really hard! @Necomancer do you know that (IIRC) by the rules, your character should be in a catatonic state because of 0 WIS (well, less than 0...)? According to D&D 3.0 (I wasn't able to find a page about it for AD&D): "Wisdom 0 means that the character is withdrawn into a deep sleep filled with nightmares, helpless."
Also, IIRC, there are creatures that live without certain stat scores, so you could either apply a "N/A" as Stick's WIS score or find a way in your story to let him avoid death because of the negative score (like he's fallen in a big cauldron full of negative WIS scores and so he is now immune to WIS - Like Obelix, who fell in a cauldron full of the druidic potion of invulnerability when he was a child and now he doesn't need it). ;D
Last thing: When this adventure will end, you should create a .ppt with all these "slides"! XD
You should ask, between friends, this Tarnished fella, for his ruminations on whether it is okay or not to date your sister if you don't know it's your sister. In case it crops up in a future sequel comic series.

Just saying Imoen makes the hottest stick lady. She's like a matchstick waiting to smoulder into the stick arms of our hero...

Either way, that kobold is super cute.

*sighs wistfully*
Now THAT Takes me back.
You'll be telling me you had the Keller's Keep expansion pack next...
Wait... Are you my BROTHER @jackjack ?
...
Anyway... Back to the story and away from sudden familial discovery's and other fantasy world's outside the Forgotten Realm campaign setting.
...
That is not a Kobold... It is Dobby the house elf returning Harry Potter's long lost sisters wand...
Keller's Keep: check
Hmmm…
...
Dear Aunty @LadyRhian,
I am vexed! Is @Jackjack my father/brother/son/wife/twin/clone?
If so, should I confront him?
And is it compulsory to lose an appendage at such appointments?
The reason I ask is I hate sowing.
I am your biggest fan and love seeing pictures of your 1st edition DnD memorabilia. Please include more piccies.
Yours hope you can help.
Anduin x
P.S. You should start your own Agony Aunt thread to help those whose fellowships break apart... It would reach a thousand pages easy...
Pics to come when I get home.

*Anduin re-reads his post*
Yep. Perfectly normal post once again.
