Athkatla is beautiful. My thief is in charge of the thiefs sub-guild, but I think I would find a super secret hiding spot inside the sewers somewhere, connected to to the thief guilds.
All you folks living so dangerously in the wilds of the Sword Coast! Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast describes it basically as a land teaming with monsters and highly dangerous just for travelers much less settlers. (Although I guess if one is Gorion's Ward then wilderness monsters are little more than a nuisance.)
Amn is far more civilized by comparison (in fact it is the most civilized land in Faerun; it's the bread basket of Faerun, quilted with farms, villas, orchards, and vineyards), though the two mountain ranges do see monster activity. The Umar Hills are like the south of France or California wine country. They are pretty monster free.
However the next big thing on the horizon in Amn is the Sythilisian Invasion which in 1370 totally disrupts the idyllic "good life" in the peaceful countryside of Amn.
I'm not sure how FR canon reconciles the Bhaalspawn events with the Sythilisian Invasion time-wise, as they overlap. In canon there is sweeping, epic war that envelops Amn during the events of SoA/ToB.

Gloren would return to the cloakwood mines with Yeslick and a band of Dwarves to clear out the flooded mines once again and restore them to their former glory.
Gullykin! I'd love to live a quiet peaceful life among the little halflings. Drinking, eating and being merry shut away from the problems of the Sword Coast. Sounds Wonderful.
Definately farmlands with Ankhegs, watching those fascinating creatures. I always imagined that the Baldur's Gate city is visible from there, such view at night would be awesome. Being close to Friendly Arms inn and especially Cloakwood would make for some great adventuring, after which I can return to my solace by the river. Alternatively I can just be eaten by an Ankheg.

For example there is that wizards hiding place in the sewers, where you can take the stairs to go back down into the sewers, or actually up, and you emerge on a balcony in the bridge district: http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/Walkthrough2/SoA/chapter-2/areas/sewers-mekraths-lair.php
