    I just wandered around Sarah Stones galleries last night, and now it seems she's done the front cover - coincidences rule! And I love that pic - looks like it could be Imoen.

    Imoen has elf ears?

    On the other hand, there's a dagger sheath, and Aerie can't use daggers.

    Don't think its Imoen either. Mmm, maybe a new character altogether.

    @Dazzu‌ @kiwidoc‌ @HerrderGezeiten‌ its set 100 years after the events in the videogame, so I think that's not arie or imoen. Somehow they are bringing Minsc and boo into the future. They writer assures us that it's a very clever justification.

    Hopefully, that explanation involves Neera and a wild surge!

    Yes well. . . Bhaal's sexual habits aside, I'm excited. I need more money, it just occurred to me with this awesome stuff coming out soon I need to get a massive pay rise.

    You know, it really sucks to be a Baldur's Gate fan whose (second) least favorite character is Minsc.

    You're not alone.

    When something gets hyped it smacks me in the face HARD, and Minsc is just... eh to me now.

    I doubt that's Minsc, I read the interview and it's 100 years after the events of the videogame...

    If it is Minsc, well I guess he must be a dragon in disguise then. ;)

    Edit, someone already said that I guess. need to read everything before posting. ;)

    Ok, I calmed down (a bit) and read what you other folks said and seriously guys, we are actually getting more of Baldur's Gate, don't be so picky! Also, there already was a Baldur's Gate comic featuring Shar-Teel, I just need to find it again ... (spoiler: It's not that great).

    PS: Here we go.

    It's funny, to me, Baldur's Gate has always been the cief example and benchmark of how an RPG should be. When I started with p&p D&D some time after playing BG for the first time, no one among the gamer people, except for a one friend who got started together with me, shared that view. And now, some decade later, BG has become an official D&D archetype.

    Well in my party the spellcasters are standing behind the muscle guys when a couple of hostile blades show up. But then, it's 100 years later, maybe Minsc has to hide his belly behind a fragile mage girl ...
  • scriverscriver Member Posts: 2,072
    Clearly your muscle guys don't know how to pose for a cover.

    And have tiny, tiny heads dwarfed by arms that nobody but a protracted steroid abuser would have. Seriously, thats not really possible, or neccesary. Nice thing about then really old and awful DnD art, it tended to represent physiques better.

    An actual fighter isnt going to look like a body builder because body builders have trained usually for maximum strength (which gives bulk), not power (aka speed behind blows). A warrior would likely have good definiton/tone, but less bulk. Think martial artisits and boxers vs the ridiculous bodybuilder wrestlers the WWF used to have back in the day.

    I'm not pessimistic about it, just commenting on a common anmoyance in modern gaming art. I've read enough comics to know cover action is typically completely unrelated to the interior, beyond sharing some characters. :s

    Minsc is the obvious choice, he has some notoriety/fame. There is a reason he is a cannon companion.

    @Quartz‌:
    See it like this: The fact that Wizards of the Coast finally got around to actually make more BG related stuff let's hope for a lot more. I mean, Coran already made his comeback inclusive a minifig in the Murder in Baldur's Gate campaign.
    The only problem I see, is that they didn't redcon Abdel Adrian >.>

    @DreadKhan‌:
    Well, that's a common problem in the american comicbook industry, but really hardly the fault of this comic. The bigger problem I see is, that Boo is frickin huge for a hamster in the coverart. He looks more like a guineapig :I
    But I will be happy if the quality of this series will be about the same level as the Drizzt comics (which is one of my favourite comicbook series, I am still bummed it got canceled halfway through :T )

    And yeah, Minsc is by far the most popular character, for very good reasons. Sure, others might be more interesting, but he *is* the posterboy of the franchise. And if the comic sells well enough, I am certain they are going to bring back more old faces (like with Coran).

    @Buttercheese‌ he's not a hamster remember, he's a miniature giant space hamster... and I havr no clue how big they are. ;)

    I'm also shocked they didnt retcon Abdel's novels out... he's not exactly msinstream FR, and generally games arent very cannon anyways. BG is officially in the lore, which is unusual for a game. Maybe they'll do a rewrite if the BG IP starts looking particularly valuable again... because he's a liability as is, but a small one unless BG becomes more mainstream.
