What information is confirmed about IWD so far?
- fixed bugs
- better multiplayer
- new options previously seen in BGEE
Has any other new information come to light?
Edit:
- new kits first kind of confirmed and then denied?
Thank you for this @bengoshi :

Announced Mods
- elminster (yea me you got a problem with self promotion? ) will be releasing a kitpack upon release that will contain at least 5 new mod kits, 4 of which have never been implemented in any BG2/BGEE/BG2EE mod release. One of which is exclusive to halflings only.
On topic (I've decided to check the forum so that we indeed have everything mentioned in this thread:
- 60 new items, - can be added the following:
CamDawg: there are some restored journals as part of the UB item restorations. http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/557797/#Comment_557797
CamDawg: In IWD, elven chain also has undisclosed thieving penalties; IWDEE adds the penalties to the description.

Classes - can be added the following:
AlexT: The unkitted bard gets all the songs from the original Icewind Dale. The Blade kit only gets the first song. The other kits retain their own specific songs and don't get any of the IWD songs. http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/538591/#Comment_538591
Spells - can be added the following:
CamDawg: The imported Cure Medium Wounds no longer works on extraplanars, just like the other IWD healing spells, for example. Where both IWD and BG2 had the same spell we've used the IWD version, e.g. Cure Disease now has the 5 HP healing that it does in IWD.

Spells
- The High Level Abilities that were introduced in Throne of Bhaal will not be in IWD:EE.
- Every spell that was in the original Icewind Dale +HoW + TotLM is in IWD:EE as well.
- 122 additional spells carried over from BGEE/BG2EE (which means that some spells that couldn't be carried over in the IWD in BG2 mod are available in IWDEE). All BG2 spell scrolls were meticulously hand-placed after careful balance considerations. Some are available in stores, others were added to certain areas, and yet others were given to specific opponents.
- The imported Cure Medium Wounds no longer works on extraplanars, just like the other IWD healing spells, for example. Where both IWD and BG2 had the same spell we've used the IWD version, e.g. Cure Disease now has the 5 HP healing that it does in IWD
- Several new spells, both arcane and divine, have been created for the game, including Wither, a powerful necromancy spell that damages enemies over time, and Favor of Ilmater, a priest spell that allows the caster to diminish their health in order to heal an ally.
Items
- 60 new items (including some restored books/journals)
- Some of the items introduced are class specific to the new classes/kits being introduced (barbarian, sorcerer, monk) and help accommodate the BGIIEE weapon proficiency system
- They identified and restored a number of unused items and unused random drops, so players will see some new loot throughout the game.
- Thieves can use crossbows in IWDEE (they didn't used to be able to, even light crossbows)
- They did receive a lot of information about specific plans for unfinished work in the game (where left out items were to go, that kind of detail).
- Random loot works just as it did in the original. There are some new items on the tables--mainly from the UB item restorations, though they did turn up a few more items UB missed.
- Item description corrections (including showing thieving penalties on chainmail).
Race
- Half-Orc is now a playable race (and has additional dialogue in some places specific to it)
- Half-Orcs have innate infravision in IWD:EE.
Classes
- 31 class and kit combinations from Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition.
- Priest of Tempus (Battleguard) is a new kit introduced to the game. It has additional dialogue as well for encounters you find in the game since Tempus is an important figure in the games storyline.
- The Battleguard gets Holy Power once/five levels, and Chaos of Battle every ten. Chaos of Battle is an area of effect spell that randomly grants a scaling thac0/AC/save/HP bonus to allies, and penalties in the same categories to enemies.
- Priest of Tyr is another new kit.
- The Tyr kit gets Exaltation once/five levels, and Divine Favor once/ten levels. Divine Favor is is a scaling thac0 bonus for the priest.
- Bard, Ranger and Paladin spellcasting progression is the same as it was in the original's Heart of Winter.
- Cleric/Ranger multiclass/dual class treated the same as it was in IWD (you only get up to level 6 druid spells and you only start getting druid specific spells when your ranger level could get them normally)
- Specialist mage schools are treated as they were in Heart of Winter.
- Higher level evil clerics don't get healing spells (though they do get access to Slay Living and Destruction).
- Thief skills will be handled as they are in BG2/BGEE/BG2EE. In other words you'll be able to put points into Open Locks, Find Traps, Detect Illusion, Pick Pocket, Set Traps, Move Silently, and Hide in Shadows.
- The unkitted bard gets all the songs from the original Icewind Dale. The Blade kit only gets the first song. The other kits retain their own specific songs and don't get any of the IWD songs.
- Weapon styles carried over from BG2, including dual wielding.
NPC's
- NPC's names will appear over their heads when you are holding down tab, even if you haven't yet talked to them.
- They discussed adding party member NPC's (based on the twitter question it was presumably recruitable NPC's with personalities) to IWD:EE, but they decided that was not what the game was about. If IWD:EE does well it's definitely something they could consider if people are interested!
UI/ Graphics/Artwork/Portraits
- They didn't find/receive any art assets
- Portraits are handled like they were in the original (being cropped from the larger picture) however they
have been remastered in high resolution using the original source art. They look very crisp on hi-res displays. This is also true for the world map art.
- BGEE/BG2EE like user interface that features zoom capabilities and a quickloot bar
- Under the Graphics option you can now lock in the zoom level.
- Area transitions are highlighted for IOS and Android devices
Gameplay
- You can turn Story Mode on/off at any time (you aren't stuck with it during the whole game).
- Like in the original game there is an option to turn Sneak Attack on/off
- Heart of Fury mode is included
- Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster
- You cannot import characters from BGEE or BG2EE. You can however make your own. The game also does provide you with 6 default characters (not found in the original game) if you want to choose those.
Sound
- Five, not 4 previously unused sound tracks have been restored to the game.
Quests
- Six quests that were cut from the original game have been fixed up and included. UB provides a completely new quest in Lower Dorn's Deep, the Voice of Durdel Anatha. It also allows for different resolutions or twists to existing quests. For example, you can challenge Presio to a one-on-one duel, or find a way to turn Malavon's golems against him.
Multi-player
- Cross-platform multiplayer
Coding
- Softcoded fireballs (not in ids, but the projectile structure), target counts and rectangular AOE are in IWDEE.
Most of the used fields are already in DLTCEP, but some bits will differ from GemRB (so GemRB's projectiles won't be 100% compatible).
- Bug fixes
Availability
- With Steamplay, when you buy the game on Steam you can install it on Mac, Linux, or Windows.
- Buying from the iTunes App Store allows you to install and play the game on any of your iOS devices that meet the requirements, including iPad and iPhone devices.
- Buying from Google Play allows you to install and play the game on any of your Android devices that meet the requirements.
- Buying from Beamdog directly allows you to install and play the game on any Windows or Mac machine you own, provided that it meets the system requirements.
- Buying the game from GoG.com is also an option though it has not yet been stated what systems the gog.com version will work with.
Digital Rights Management
- The game does not use any internal form of DRM. Beamdog requires a one-time activation during installation, but after that you can play the game offline or even transfer it to another computer you own for easy back-up. Steam, iTunes, and Google Play may have other requirements from the retailer.
Languages
- At launch, Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will have support for English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.
Beta Access
- By pre-ordering you potentially can gain beta access for the game. This requires you to fill out a form on icewinddale.com and (if chosen) sign an NDA.
Announced Mods
- elminster (yea me you got a problem with self promotion? ) will be releasing a kitpack hopefully upon release that will contain the following kits
Fighter
Myrmidon
Tunnelrat (Halfling only)
Paladin (obviously all human only)
Divinate of Mystra
Divinate of Mielekki
Divinate of Ilmater
Cleric
Iceguardian of Ulutiu (Human only)
Icepriest of Auril
Earthwalker of Grumbar (Dwarf or Gnome only)
Shaman of Gruumsh (Half-Orc only)
Priest of Luthic (Half-Orc only)
Leaftender (Halfling only)
Druid
Hivemaster
At least compared to BGEE ...
If anything I think this one should cost less, not more.
I play the via latter now because that's my option, but would love to be able to use Steam for Linux... hell, or even native binaries without steam, for that matter.
Looking forward to IWD:EE. Of course, I'm still working my way through BG:EE. I will probably be investing in BG2:EE eventually, as well.
"Wait, what?"
"OK, are you suuuuure?"
What is this, Kindergarten?
Its a funny old world!
