What's in your Icewind Dale party?

KenjiKenji Member Posts: 251
What.. or Who are they? What kind of party is it?

Be it a group of righteous fanatics (paladins n' clerics, eww), mischievous evil-doers, or Nordic honorable nomads (barbarians, druids, and rangers), what party do you usually create when it comes to Icewind Dale?

The forums is a place for me to hunt ideal characters who are unique and cool. But since I am too lazy to browse every single discussion and every post, I may as well ask for what people have in mind for their characters in one place.

Here are mine, a group of nameless mercenary militia that fits the description of the... kindhearted narrator as he narrates the progress of your adventures in between chapters. It's fairly cookie-cutter.

Add stats and bio to your characters if you'd like, I'm refraining myself from posting those just so you guys don't get walls of texts.

For me, I'd go something like this:

    Human Paladin (party leader)
    Dwarven Fighter/Cleric
    Human Barbarian
    Half Elven ranger
    Halfling thief
    Human Wizard

In previous play throughs, I found the lower levels particularly needing a lot of close quarters fighter types, so this seems to work. Of course later on, you have other issues to deal with.

    @bengoshi LOL good one!

Of course, since I am a chronic restarter, you can bet this will hardly be the only team I lead into Icewind Dale...

    You and I both, brother.

Depends on playstyle, I think most of my approaches early on (especially HoF mode) is summon things, use ranged attacks, and lots of kiting. Takes a bit of micromanagement but it minimizes damage taken.

I have approached the game multiple times with well-rounded characters and balanced classes all around as well. Sure, it was cool, but at often times I find it lacking in.. certain respects.

Remember in Icewind Dale there were premade parties for the players to select? They each had a theme. And what I found lacking in my previous parties were their themes. Each and one of their characters are colorful and vibrant, but they all come together to be a big messy ugly picture.

Which is why in the recent approach to Icewind Dale I have decided to paint the picture as a whole, rather than having different segments of colors, to put.

Nice. Are you all right with me snagging that fallen knight portrait to use as team dreamer's Death Knight/Blackguard?

When I played the original game last (years ago), I was deep in my LOTR period... If I remember well my party was the following:

    Aragorn: Human Ranger
    Legolas: Elf Archer
    Gimli: Dwarf Fighter
    Frodo: Halfling Fighter-Thief
    Galadriel: Elf Cleric
    Arwen: Elf Mage

These heroes starting at Level 1 managed to make it all the way to the end on HOF mode! Now, as mentioned on another thread, my next challenge on IWDEE will be to try and do the same with a solo character (either FMT or FMC, still to be decided...)

Since I don't rightfully own the portrait, and as the original artist requests to only share the link, I'm sure you can use it to whatever ends as long as it is not redistributing the artwork without the artist's consent. It's also a really cool portrait, part of me starting the thread is to see if people can scrounge up some cool IWD-style portraits.

    Glad you liked it though!

So many characters to choose from LotR, must've been hard cutting some of them off the list!

A party idea based on another fantasy/sci-fi system:

Lord Hellraiser - LE human Blackguard
    Carnivore - CE half-orc Barbarian
    Vega - NE elf Fighter/Thief
    Worf - LE gnome Fighter/Cleric
Gambon - CE elf Dragon Disciple

Goes under the name of 'Undivided'.

    @Syntia13
What an awesome and efficient way to post a whole roster of dossier!

Neverwinter Night portraits work surprisingly well, too, if managed to muster enough portraits for character creation. On top of that, I also used sporeboy's Aasimar/Tiefling portraits for IWD2 characters.

    Vodka.

Tsk tsk. Just vodka and nothing else? That's very unhealthy. You should feed them some bread with lard at the very least. ;)

    Blackguard - sword/shield
    Cleric/Ranger - dual blunts
    Half-Orc Fighter/Thief - two-handed
    Totemic Druid - staff/spear/sling/darts?
    Jester - shortbow/x-bow
    Wild Mage - sling

Originally I was going to have a Paladin in the 1st slot but I decided against it. The other members can cover the abilities, and I'm not that bothered about the +7 sword (been there, done that). The blackguard brings something new, and they'll probably add a special weapon for them.

Some might scoff at the Jester, but it's the only Bard I haven't tried before.

Good choice, seems like a solid party. Jester isn't a bad choice, though early on his bardic abilities may come short since confusion doesn't work on undead. Later on, however, especially with those annoying salamanders and umber hulks running amok, confusion can disperse some of them living creatures and give you an easier time chopping them down. Divide and conquer!

This is pure speculation, of course, as I never had the chance of having a jester in Icewind Dale.
