Am loving this, I always hated the fact that you used to have to create an entire party in IWD, it takes me long enough to decide how to setup one character, let alone 6! Also makes the game seem more "alive".
I did change a few things in EEKeeper for my game, though - I turned Nella into a Totemic Druid (i.e. no fighter levels - I guess I could have dualed her into a straight Druid almost immediately, but I don't like dual-classing). I also tweaked some of the weapon proficiencies (e.g. I gave Terri darts proficiency, as made her an Assassin), but didn't boost any stats or otherwise "cheat".
I've broken the NPCs into two groups (4 members in each):
1. Korin, Teri, and Severn. (Currently with this group, using a mage.)
2. Nella, Holvir, and Severn. (Plan to use a thief/mage dual-class with this group.)
Yeah, I have Severn twice. He's my favourite NPC, and bards rock in IWD.
Although I'll lose out on some inter-party banter, the improved replay value, and my preference for 4-member groups in IWD, more than compensate for this loss IMO.
I'm wondering what class to roll for my main character. Can't decide between a Druid (making Severn a mage) or a Mage (making Nella a fighter/druid)....

@alastair93 why not go for a sorcerer and make Nella a fighter/druid dual or just a druid?
@kulyok Just a quick question. Is there any way to make the installation detect it's an EE game and skip the ogg vorbis decoding as the EE engine can read those files directly?
@mlnevese - You can try the OSX download. It includes a Windows weidu .exe file and the .tp2 is updated to use HANDLE_AUDIO for IWDEE, so it should install by just copying the .ogg files.
I play on the iphone, and have Ifunbox. How do I add this mod? It sounds great.
Unless you've jailbroken the iPhone, you don't. The iOS versions of the EE games don't allow the DIALOG.TLK file to be edited, since that file is inside the app-package. It's a limitation of the iOS sandbox.
The only way around the sandbox is a jailbroken iPhone/iPad.
I renamed and put the soundsets i wanted in the "D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition\IWDNPC\Sounds\NPCNAME" file and reinstalled the whole thing, you don't even need to change the wav to ogg, but they will strangely disappear after the install.
Keep nella as fighter druid, and severn as bard - fits there stories and korin as ranger/cleric...just finsihed the severed hand and having a blast with this team - PC monk with minsc voice = awesome and hilarious
I'm having a blast in large part thanks to this mod. People who know how many times I replayed BG will never believe it but I never played IWD. Knowing, back then, it was a 'custom party' game with 6 no-banter self-made characters ruined it for me, because the party dynamics and banter made BG so great. So I never got to play it.
Now that the EE 1.4 was out and it was on sale and I saw this mod I thought why not. These 5 NPCs are freaking awesome so far, I love the bard so much. I can't imagine how much duller my evening would have been without their comments at every turn. I'm still just level 2 in the second village mind you, but I can already say that this feels like real Baldurs gate NPCs!
oh wow i didnt even see this, definitely giving it a try. question though, since this mod was made when iwd didnt have half orcs, will the banters/romance still work for this race? sorry if its a foolish question
The mod worked with IWD-in-BG2, which basically was the seed for IWDEE. The banters should work for any race, but the romances are limited to humans, elves, and half-elves.
A: There are friendships, both between the NPCs and with the protagonist. Some of these bonds may become something greater. Romances are available to human, elven and half-elven protagonists.
I can't seem to get this to work. I'm running on Win7, downloaded and installed the mod (English) in my Steam bought copy of IW where the chitin.key is located and when I start up a new game there is no option to import these characters, only the game starter class ones. Anyone know what the problem could be?
Ah! Thanks for the reply, I did not understand that, I am playing the EE. So does that mean besides my PC, I should just leave all the other character slots blank?

Ow...I installed this and tried/failed to install the Duskblade and Wizard Slayer mod and I see the characters in the Inn, but they only say things like "invalid 4095". What should I do ?Which order should I install the mods ?
@saox you probably figured this out already...I was having the same problem, but fixed it by editing the weidu config file that gets put in the IWDEE folder when extracting the mod. It is apparently set to German by default, but just change de_de to en_US and reinstall, then you should be good to go.
What is the word count on this NPC mods? Is it more like BGII originals that remain conscious of gameplay/NPC pacing, or more like pillars of eternity and its novella length walls of text?

weidu.conf is not set to anything by default.
Rather, the first time you install a WeiDU mod in a fresh EE game installation, it asks you which localized version of the game's dialog file mods should modify, and then stores your choice in the weidu.conf file.
It's just that when it asks you which language to use, "German" is the first option listed (because they're sorted alphabetically by their language code, and "de_de" comes before "en_us"), so its easy to carelessly select the top choice and thereby accidentally set it to German.

Thanks.

In IWDEE, the NPCs are recruited like in BG games. You'll find them in the Easthaven tavern.
