Hello, new to the forum and new to CRPG's. Just a little background, I've been wanting to play through some of these older CRPG's for years but have never been able to push myself through one. I've picked up BG:EE and BG2:EE and would like to get started straight into BG2:EE(don't ask why..)
What I want is to play a necromancer, poison, summons, the bad mojo type stuff. But I don't really know where to begin as I've never spent much time with any of these games. I've done a little reading and have seen class mods for BG:EE that improve necromancy stuff for sorcerer, but haven't found something similar for BG2:EE. So I was hoping you fine fellows could help me out with suggestions for building a necromancer or any mods to make a necromancer cooler/better/more fun.

If you want to play as a necromancer with poison, I suggest that you make a multiclass mage/thief and with the EEKeeper (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/16497/ee-keeper-updated-to-v1-0-2#latest) change her into a mage/assassin and use only necromancer spells as a mage.
Low lvl spells are a bit weak, chill touch being very useless in general. Horror is a good debuff at lvl 2, and ghoul touch can be of use unlike chill touch. Vampiric touch is excellent damage dealer and hp buffer, and you can get some castings per day as a special ability at the start of the game. Skull trap has no damage cap and becomes more powerful than fireball at high levels. Plus it damages even those monsters immune to fire such as dragons and demons/devils. At lvl four there are no good necromancy spells, contagion is very meh. Get greater malison and an emotion spell this will knock out many enemies:think it as a general misery and feel bad type of spell, not very unfittng for a necromancer. At lvl five there is the bread and butter animate dead spell, at higher lvls it creates more powerful skeleton minions that are very durable against magic. Sixth lvl and above necromancy spells are the darkest and are feared throughout the realms, they outright kill people instantly or cause great pain like doing hundred points of damage to every enemy, I will leave them to you to discover.
