Roleplaying drinks

Hi, just wondering, does anyone here role play going to the inns/taverns and having a drink or 5 in the game? Does anyone ever think 'well they've had a few hard battles today, the pc and party deserve some drinks'? Has anyone ever role played an alcoholic pc (sad over the death of Gorion) and spent all of baldurs gate in a drunken haze oblivious to what on earth was going on?

Your character would be driven by a need to be left alone, separated from the world that gives him so much trouble, so he would be in complete denial of his birthright and do everything possible to avoid it.
He would use conflict to keep the world at a distance and argue with everyone, readily displaying extremes of emotion - he would be unlikely to see the middle ground in any situation.
He would quite likely be looking for an answer of some kind, be it for redemption, release or revenge so his actions although seemingly random (Chaotic) could well have a rigid goal that verges on the fanatical (Lawful?) and suicidal.
Long term memory would remain intact but short term memory loss would be a given and to roleplay that would actually require a lot of thought - you'd have to imagine that every morning when your character wakes up he's forgotten the previous day completely yet still has memories of the days before that. The previous days memories would only surface the next day, if you see what I mean, so his actions would always lag a day behind events or take him seriously off track because he's forgotten about a critical decision he made the day before.
As an alcoholic he would invariably hurt those closest to him (Evil, in a sense) so he would need very tolerant companions, one of which he would probably cling to and rely on as the 'designated driver' of the party.
Although his constitution would obviously be poor his outbursts of rage at the world could lend him great physical strength at times (Berserker?).
So, although you could go the stereotypical Chaotic Neutral comical route (Bard?) my personal experience would see him as Chaotic or Lawful Evil Berserker (he would not have the mental integrity to be a Mage or a Cleric or the physical coordination to be a Thief).
I hope this doesn't come across as too serious and gloomy because I genuinely think this could be an interesting roleplaying exercise that could take you anywhere (but not one for me - I really don't want to go there again!).
I did have a couple of 90lb female half-elf druids who were surprisingly resilient however. Scary thing was you could literally see their soul leave their body as they decided to "let Khalid know a few things about Khalid that Khalid doesn't know." Jaheira was a bad influence on them. We all learned a thing or two about friendship, however.
