Actually, he can be killed in the battle, which can happen quite easily off screen if you lead allied troops against the enemy camp. He could also become panicked or confused and run off somewhere.
@Fardragon: I know he can get killed. But he vanished before the attack on the camp, so I know that the fight isn't the reason he disappeared. Plus, he reappeared after the fight, showing that he did in fact survive.
I was considering starting a new run with a new premise: I get to change one tiny detail about any one thing in the game, but I have to run in Legacy of Bhaal mode to compensate.
Unfortunately, being able to change anything was too powerful, so I forbade myself from: 1) changing duration types (so I can't make a temporary effect permanent and stackable) 2) changing more than a single number (so I can't jump from 1 to 1000; only from 1 to 91) 3) improving damage at all (so I can't give Archers or Kensais +91 to damage per three levels instead of +1)
This forced me to do more creative stuff, like switching opcodes, which has the side effect of screwing up effect parameters, making certain opcodes non-functional. For instance, many spells could apply opcode 188, the Improved Alacrity opcode, but it wouldn't have a value of 1 in the second parameter, which wouldn't do anything. The only way to grant long-term Improved Alacrity was to tweak Polymorph Other and then use Polymorph Self to revert to normal form, but the former still imposed the standard 100% casting failure.
Then I found that even those restrictions weren't enough, because I could create unstoppable characters through two methods: 1) Tweaking the SPCL814.spl file to grant immunity to opcode 12 instead of opcode 16. This allows level 5 monks to be hasted and also makes them immune to all damage. 2) Tweaking the Goodberry spell to switch from opcode 122 to opcode 120. Instead of creating 5 Goodberries, this makes the caster immune to level 5 weapons and below.
An invincible fighter/druid or monk wouldn't make for very interesting gameplay.
Which means we'll no longer have those 600+ pages threads for no-reloaders!!! We have several weeks to copy everything, so that the community's efforts were remembered and stayed with us. Please, if anyone can do it, it would be good to copy old bioware forums into this thread (yes, it will take some time but it will worth it).

Please, if anyone can do it, it would be good to copy old bioware forums into this thread (yes, it will take some time but it will worth it).
Those threads are, in fact, the inspiration for this one as I have mentioned in my original post.
I would encourage, if a reasonable format can be found, to move the contents of both threads to here for future as well as past posts.
I'm not sure if it is sensible to copy and paste every past post here separately as a new post (we would ramp up to something like 1200 pages in a day). But perhaps posts copied as combined document files (whatever our attached file limitations per post are) can be posted.
Idea: Say, um, the BG1 thread posts from 1/1/2014 to 1/1/2015 are collated as a Word or PDF file (essentially a copy-paste job) and posted as the "BG1-2014" collection. .... and repeated so on and so forth for both threads and for all years.
This would add a few dozen posts to this thread and I can index the links to them and add them to the original post so that people can find them easily.
What are the opinions on this? Any further ideas? Let's arrive at a consensus first. Once that is done, some volunteers can "reserve" the necessary post sequentially (by posting place holders first) and begin moving the content here, if agreed.
Let us provide a home to the dedicated Bioware no-reload community here.
(P.S. Could one of the Bioware forum veterans please pass this post along as an invitation onto the two Bioware forums. Thank you.)
Noticed that you already cross-posted my message to Bioware forums. Thanks for that as well.
Could you actually also provide a link to this thread there as well. It would help if the community there could see this thread and decide for themselves. I think we need the consensus and approval also of the Bioware forum people for this idea to work.
Hello! I've been posting on the BioWare forums for years in the no-reload thread. I bought BG 1 in 1998 and all the other BG titles. Bioware forums will be shutting down, so I'll post my no-reload runs in here if that's OK.
@Corey_Russell: Welcome! I look forward to seeing you and the other Bioware greats over here in the future.
@Ygramul@Serg_BlackStrider@JuliusBorisov: I think we should reserve most of the content of the Bioware no-reload thread for a separate thread or archive (hundreds of pages of content would disrupt the flow here), but all the posts of in-progress no-reload runs like @KinginGreen's and @Dyara's should be brought into this thread directly. We don't want those runs getting lost in the transition.
EDIT: Since copying over all the content from the Bioware threads will take a long time and multiple people, we should probably create a Google doc Excel sheet to keep track of who has copied what.

Been reading your excellent posts there for years. Looking forward to seeing them here.
Meanwhile, on the issue of copying content from Bioware forums: Good points, @semiticgod This is exactly why I asked to have a consensus first. If we want to preserve that legacy it will take several volunteers cooperating that have agreed on the methodology.
On the method: I am a bit reluctant if we create two separate, brand new threads out of the Bioware old no-reload posts instead of archiving them in this thread in a few dozen sequential posts (which will then be indexed and linked clearly on p.1 in the original post). Separate threads for the old posts will likely cause a divergence of threads between no-reload contents. I worry that instead of welcoming the Bioware veterans and their expertise to our thread we would then have dumped them on a refugee camp (referring to the separate thread) instead to continue their separate existence.
Ultimately, this should be a collective decision and I will support whatever the majority -especially, the Bioware forum community- decides to do.
They are all very welcome here regardless. So, thanks again, Corey.
Thank you all for your welcome! I have an EE (BG 1) run in progress. It's the first EE no-reload I've attempted. Maybe Dragonspear too, depends how it goes. When I get a chance to work on it, will post in this thread. The no-reload rules I'm using are slightly different than what is posted on the 1st post of this thread, so will post that and my setup so people know what game I am playing when I do my first post here.
Look forward to getting to know you people, like I have the people at the BioWare forums. I've made some good friends over there.
I don't know if you guys have any Multi-player no-reload runs here, but myself, Grond0 and Gate70 work on one for two hours every Saturday. I also have a duo multi-player with Gate70 (different run), will post that run here as well as BioWare forum (and will continue to do so until BioWare forums are read-only).

There were, in fact, some very interesting multi-player runs a while ago. (*checks*) Have a look, e.g., at p. 41-45 for the "Monty Pyhton Crew" adventures. Would be great to see some more of them.

Duo Update 5 (Attempt #1) - (Corey_Russell, Gate70)
I need to explain my setup, as well as my slightly different no-reload rules that I'm using for this run: Setup: BGT with ToBex and Fixpack, no other mods
No-reload rules followed (compared to 1st post of this thread): I use rules #1, #3c Not using rules #2, #3b, #3c, #3d
It should be noted this is a TRILOGY no-reload run - that is, I started my character in Candlekeep and am trying to get him to defeat Melissan, no-reload style.
My friend Gate70 is my other party member, we do not use NPCs this run (except maybe to take their stuff).
Axer and Vommar continue their adventure - this session had no deaths, although Axer got hit hard a number of times. Fortunately, when you have 161 HP like Axer does and high AC, you often can still press on.
First order of business was the planar prison to get haste boots for Vommar. The key was to make sure neither party could suffer from disintegrate - once we did that, the initial bounty hunters were doomed. The rest of the enemies didn't really do all that great either, though again they did hit Axer hard. But he either used RoR or extra healing potions to press on. We had a deva available for the Warden, but Vommar with his Carsomyr destroyed the Warden so this ended up being a successful venture.
Vommar thought the Crom Faeyr would be real useful for Axer, so the party ventured into the Planar Sphere. The party played carefully and completed this area without any deaths. Interestingly enough, the enemies who did the best showing were the golems in the engine room area. Axer had switched weapons to go after the clay golem. But right then two stone golems appeared as well as an admantite golem which prevented Vommar from coming to Axer's aid. Because Axer had a dual-weapon set, he got hit hard fast and was badly wounded. So Corey_Russell paused and equipped the Sentinel shield and also girdle of bluntness, which gave an effective blunt AC of -16. But he was slowed...so he ran a bit to try to clear his aura to the dead end, then used an invis potion. Once the slow wore off, Axer used a RoR charge then charged the remaining golems, and the enemies were cleared without further incident.
Party made a brief stop in the druid grove to get all the haste potions there. They can be handy in Melissan battles if low or no HLAs left. Bodhi was the next target, but Axer wanted to dual-wield the IMoD and Crom Faeyr. So he got a charm helmet from a temple, as somewhat surprisingly the party had none yet. Axer and Vommar just utterly destroyed the undead. Vommar's turn undead finally did something useful and killed many of the vampires. With GWW, Axer just destroyed Bodhi.
After forging a few items from Cromwell, it was time to report to Elhan and get the main quest moving. Most of the enemies in Suldanesslar were pretty straight forward, as none of them had answers for GWWs or Vommar's deva with globe of blades active. The black dragon died fast. In fact, a lot of the summons weren't even assisting Vommar. Axer donned his Gesen bow to use dispelling arrows on the dragon, allowing Vommar to get clean hits. The dragon wasn't even able to cast his usual insect plague.
Axer remembered that there was one last thing he wanted to buy (and with 140,000 gold in their pockets they could certainly afford it). He wanted to get all the dispelling arrows from Waukeen's Promenade. They can be extremely useful for a melee heavy group like Axer's. So we had to backtrack through the annoying forest with pathing issues, get the arrows, and return. We had a few more trash enemies to deal with, and the duo had just cleared the rakshashkas outside the Temple before saving their session.
Vommar has gained somewhat on the kill count - this is in part due to him having the strength belts that party finds, as well as Axer uses a shield a lot, to either range or to make sure he lives against hard hitting opponents (like Adamnite Golems). He may have some WW or GWW also, as the party has HLAs.
Thanks for posting this Ygramul! I was just putting together an update on my latest run (after my last failed due to mod conflicts). I'll just handle that here.
Looking forward to reading more about everyone's attempts.
Edit: I should ask before posting. I'm currently playing through on the original versions of BG1/2 with some mods. The game is mostly the same as EE but does have some differences that may interfere with everyone's ability to follow the game.
@SuperNovice - The BioWare forums used BG1, BG2, BG 1/2 EE, Dragonspear, and also BGT and EasyTutu in their no-reload runs. As long as you declare which BG you are using we had no problem. Guess I can't speak for the people here, as I am a new poster here.

Is that an issue for anyone?
Not at all. We are all fine about making your own house rules -- the spirit of the no-reload being maintained.
It is encouraged to declare your specific setup so that people can follow the specific challenges. Some people even posted vanilla IWDEE runs. Some posted role play-heavy narratives.
Again, beyond no-reload, there are not many iron rules.

Everything in my games is within the confines of the "official" rules. I was more concerned with the fact that I'm using the original series which is different (however slightly) from EE.
Starting a new run. I went with a Paladin this time. The Barbarian was a good choice and I'll probably revisit that in the future but, for this run at least, it's a Cavalier.

I do have smarter casters with pre-buffing installed as well as most of the improved enemies. The only one I didn't install was the kobolds since the guards and chiefs are a bit much at the stage you run into them. Especially so if you're making any attempt at RPing the game. I've debated powergaming my way through a no reloads game just to say I did it. In that case, I would probably install the tougher kobolds component but that's a decision for another day.
For rules, everything is in place except 3a. I roll the dice fairly but do redistribute points.
Anyone mind telling me the trick to get an image to show in a post without having the reader click a link? Thanks.
Drag it to the comment window. It will be inserted at the cursor. It's considered bad form to post .bmp images, and if you're posting multiple images, you should put them in spoiler tags. Select the block of code that appears when you insert the picture, click on the paragraph symbol above the comment and choose "Spoiler".
@Corey_Russell: The method on these forums is actually quite fast. Instead of using an image uploading site, you upload pictures directly from your own computer.
There should be an "Attach image/file" icon just above where you type your post. Click it and it will let you attach an image (or another file type, whatever).
It will put your images at the bottom of the screen, and also add in a line that inputs that image into the text. It looks like this:
So, at the bottom, you've got a tiny thumbnail with the image file name, plus a line inside the post that puts the image in the right place. I like to delete those lines, the ones that say < img blah blah blah >. The images remain uploaded even if you delete those lines, so you can paste them again, in a different place, by X'ing the pictures out and then clicking on them one more time. This lets me put the images in the order I want. It looks like this:
You can also upload multiple images at once, and then input them individually. You can tell them apart by the file names, even if the thumbnails are too tiny to tell them apart.
To put them inside a spoiler, use these spoiler tags: [ spoiler ] SPOILER IMAGE HERE [ / spoiler ] but remove the spaces from inside the brackets.
Finally, if you upload too many pictures and want to remove some, just X them out, without re-clicking them. They'll appear as greyed-out thumbnails like this:
Well...that was fast. Dante the Cavalier died a gruesome death before his first update.
This run was cursed from the start I think. I ran into 2 different packs of dread wolves in the first zone which prevented me from getting anywhere near Xzar and Montaron. Then in the second zone, I ran into a pack of 2 dire wolves that chased me out of the area.
After getting to the Friendly Arm Inn with just Imoen in tow, Tarnesh was deadly. First round, he slept Imoen while his Mirror Image and Shield proved too much for Dante to overcome. A few spells and a couple quarterstaff whacks later and Dante was dead.
Fortunately, my bad luck was rewarded with an insane stat roll on his second incarnation - Dante the Undead Hunter. I've seen a few higher than this but I don't think I've ever rolled a 96 on stats. Being a Paladin with all of its required minimums probably helped.
@ussnorway : Hi there! @semiticgod wrote a thorough instructions about inserting pics two posts up. And I think, jpg is preferable to conserve a page loading speed.
Comments
Unfortunately, being able to change anything was too powerful, so I forbade myself from:
1) changing duration types (so I can't make a temporary effect permanent and stackable)
2) changing more than a single number (so I can't jump from 1 to 1000; only from 1 to 91)
3) improving damage at all (so I can't give Archers or Kensais +91 to damage per three levels instead of +1)
This forced me to do more creative stuff, like switching opcodes, which has the side effect of screwing up effect parameters, making certain opcodes non-functional.
Then I found that even those restrictions weren't enough, because I could create unstoppable characters through two methods:
1) Tweaking the SPCL814.spl file to grant immunity to opcode 12 instead of opcode 16.

Please, if anyone can do it, it would be good to copy old bioware forums into this thread (yes, it will take some time but it will worth it).
https://forum.bioware.com/topic/124374-baldurs-gate-1-no-reload-challenge/
https://forum.bioware.com/topic/124277-baldurs-gate-2-no-reload-challenge/
Thank you.)
Thank you.
Noticed that you already cross-posted my message to Bioware forums. Thanks for that as well.
Could you actually also provide a link to this thread there as well. It would help if the community there could see this thread and decide for themselves. I think we need the consensus and approval also of the Bioware forum people for this idea to work.
Thanks again for helping with a bridge.
@Ygramul @Serg_BlackStrider @JuliusBorisov: I think we should reserve most of the content of the Bioware no-reload thread for a separate thread or archive (hundreds of pages of content would disrupt the flow here), but all the posts of in-progress no-reload runs like @KinginGreen's and @Dyara's should be brought into this thread directly.
Meanwhile, on the issue of copying content from Bioware forums:
Good points, @semiticgod
This is exactly why I asked to have a consensus first.

Tribute to Bioware forums
I need to explain my setup, as well as my slightly different no-reload rules that I'm using for this run:
Setup:
BGT with ToBex and Fixpack, no other mods
No-reload rules followed (compared to 1st post of this thread):
I use rules #1, #3c
Not using rules #2, #3b, #3c, #3d

Party Stats (for session 07/31/2016):
Axer (Corey_Russell) - level 25 half-orc fighter, 161 HP, 781 kills, Bodhi
Vommar (Gate70) - level 22 human cavalier, 158 HP, 729 kills, Firkraag
Vommar has gained somewhat on the kill count - this is in part due to him having the strength belts that party finds, as well as Axer uses a shield a lot, to either range or to make sure he lives against hard hitting opponents (like Adamnite Golems). He may have some WW or GWW also, as the party has HLAs.
Looking forward to reading more about everyone's attempts.
Edit: I should ask before posting. I'm currently playing through on the original versions of BG1/2 with some mods. The game is mostly the same as EE but does have some differences that may interfere with everyone's ability to follow the game.
Is that an issue for anyone?
It is encouraged to declare your specific setup so that people can follow the specific challenges. Some people even posted vanilla IWDEE runs. Some posted role play-heavy narratives.
Again, beyond no-reload, there are not many iron rules.
It sounds like that won't be a problem though.

I'll update my progress in a couple days
To put them inside a spoiler, use these spoiler tags:

but remove the spaces from inside the brackets.
Finally, if you upload too many pictures and want to remove some, just X them out, without re-clicking them. They'll appear as greyed-out thumbnails like this:
Does that all make sense?
