Can a thief/mage cast spell immunity divination and mislead and just go to town backstabbing?

edit: this assumes I understand mislead that you pop out invisible after your action each round.

Lets see... Thac0... Asside from various items that boost thac0 (of which there are many and can be found at various locations) you could have your priest cast Champion's Strength on them. That spell gives a sizable thac0 bonus... Tenser's Transformation works too. You could also try some potions... Potions of Power come to mind. Keep in mind that being invisible also gives you a +4 thac0 boost (this bonus is not visible on the character sheet/inventory page though)

does Thac0 of a class peek out at level 20

The various classes peak in thac0 at different levels. By level 22 all of the classes appear to have stopped gaining thac0.

High strength is one of the quickest ways to a good THAC0 so make sure to have 18 base and use a tome in BG1. Then you can pop DUHM to boost it more until you get the various boosts available in bg2.

Mislead keeps you invisible so it's incredibly powerful. Best way to abuse it is to increase your APR which can be done via Polymorph Self into Spider Form and then Minor Sequencer Shocking Grasp. Suddenly you have 4 APR with your Celestial Fury (or whatever weapon you prefer). Only drawback with Spider Form is the low strength but this can be remedied with DUHM (until you do Spellhold), potions or Angurvadal (if @semiticgod knows of other methods please chime in).

Once you reach level 21 with your thief you will have 10 thac0
Wielding a +4 weapon along with 21 STR will get you down to 3.
Thac0 bonus from invisibility gets you to -1
Gloves of Thac0 will get you to -3
Helm of Balduran gets you to -4
I believe there is no other way to further lower it without temporary boost (those boosting is significantly will disable your spellcasting, except for Black blade of disaster but you will get that quite late into the game. BBoD will give you +3 thac0 due to GM, +1 compared to my calculation due to being a +5 weapon, that's -8 in the end)

    Lowest enemy AC is -12

Not all methods of increasing STR work in spider form. DUHM and a Potion of Fire Giant Strength will indeed increase your STR while in spider form. The Girdle of Fire Giant Strength, or the upgraded form of Angurvadal, will not do so.

The non-upgraded form of Angurvadal, oddly enough, actually can boost your STR to 22. This is because it involves activating the item; it is not a passive effect.

Righteous Magic, Holy Power, and Blackrazor can also improve your STR in spider form.
