I feel like this year was fairly weak for RPGs, as most games of consequence got delayed. I'd put Dark Souls 3 in the finalist category for sure, but I would hand the trophy over to Final Fantasy XV, Darkest Dungeon, or Blood & Wine (Witcher 3 expansion but bigger than most proper games) before giving the nod to Dark Souls 3.
Well then....there was a Yoel-like character, and a rather large, creepy woman who looks to be holding a cracked egg. I literally have no idea what to make of it.
It reminds me to architectural impossibilities from movie Inception. I wonder if Ringed city is influenced by that. Engine renderer looks amazing. Screens look like paintings.
Signs point to the woman being Gertrude (something is wrong with her eyes). At least many buildings in this realm have the same symbol of Londor used in the wedding ceremony. That said, this is not Londor. As Vaati pointed out, the big demon is simply a massive, in-flames version of the imps that transported you to Anor Londo. Ok then. I'm hoping they just hide the other two bosses from us. Not overly impressed with that one. Ultimately, the most intriguing bit to me remains the woman with the broken egg. However, we will never learn anything more about Gwyenevere. She seems to have been involved in everything, was lokely no less than a half-dozen lore character's mother, but she always managed to stay one step ahead of the cataclysmic events that shape the world.
Looks like (according to Vaati's video) that the Fire Demon is yet another over-tuned 3 phase boss battle. *Sigh*. Once you reach a certain point in Dark Souls 3, the bosses just progressively kick you harder and harder in the balls. Since The Old Hunters and the Nameless King, From have decided that the only way to still challenge players is to ramp things up way past 11. I still feel Dark Souls 3's biggest flaw is that it's enemies are playing at the pace of Bloodborne and you are playing at a pace only SLIGHTLY faster than Dark Souls 1 and 2. The enemies in Dark Souls 3 are too fast for the move-set and tools you are given. I'll maintain my position that they simply dropped Bloodborne-esque enemies everywhere without giving much of a thought as to what that meant when you, as the player character, do not have the fast paced options that are presented to you as a Hunter rather than an Ashen One.
