@AstroBryGuy That's terrific if you could do that, looking forward to it.
I'd probably get used to a new actor doing her voice as well and wouldn't mind it all that much but still think the devs made the right call not including it if the voice is completely off. Interested to hear the new VO now, maybe it's close enough that I'll think they should have included it.
I can see how many voiced lines there are for Jaheira's dialog lines fairly easily. The number in the wav filename corresponds to the dialog.tlk line.
And, I found her character sounds! Ok. I'll make a mod for this.
It might take a few days. I'm finishing up my Chatty Imoen mod.
Just listened to some of the WAVS. It's.... not as bad as people were making it out to be. Don't get me wrong, there are problems, of the Transylvanian Vampiress/Gypsy Woman type. All in all it's an adequate job (was hoping for great), but there are consistency issues with the accent. By all means though, make that mod! I 100% support that, it gives people like me who need the voice (regardless of minor weirdness) satisfaction, and people can't blame the devs for implementing something they didn't feel comfortable with. Hurrah for Compromise!
@Dee - This may be asking a lot, but two sounds are missing from recast Jaheira's voiceset. BD67961.wav and BD67962.wav are not in the SoDVO.bif file. The sounds are the "Reaction to Death" sounds. Do they exist? If they do, is it possible for Beamdog to release them?
If it's not possible, that's fine. I can use the original sounds for these lines. Never hurts to ask.
I guess the difference between revoicing Jaheira and Safana is that Safana had about 10 voiced lines in the entire series, whereas Jaheira had a lot in BG2, so you'd notice the difference more.
I might generally be in the minority on this, but Jaheira has always been one of my absolute favorite characters - I know voice work is incredibly expensive, but I would really like to see Beamdog continue working on 1. finding an actor who can faithfully mimic her voice or 2. setting up some kind of Bat Signal for Heidi Shannon.
I know it's probably unlikely since she seems to have totally dropped out of the industry, but it's such a shame watching all those silent dialogues.
I'll ask around, but I wouldn't hold your breath. (It's possible that no sounds were recorded for those before it was decided to leave her unvoiced.)
I wasn't planning on it. A blue face wouldn't look good with my blue robes.
Thanks for checking! I figured it would be a long shot, but just in case the files are sitting on someone's computer, I thought I'd ask. It's not a big deal.
A possible third option friend: Cut and paste previous Jaheira voice clips in a new order to create dialogue. Just like Smithers with that video of Mr Burns on his computer.

That would be amazing! I understand why Beamdog made the decision they did and it probably was the right one but it'd be nice for those of us who want to try to listen to the recasted voice to hear it. I'm sure by the end of SOD I'll have gotten completely used to it and when I move onto BG2 it'll be her real voice actress that sounds wrong haha
@ValamirCleaver - Oddly enough, that video features three Muppets who have had their performers recast.
Kermit - Originally Jim Henson, now Steve Whitmire Fozzie - Originally Frank Oz, now Eric Jacobson Swedish Chef - Originally Jim Henson (and Frank Oz for the hands), now Bill Barretta
@AstroBryGuy I'm cognizant of that and that was the reason why I posted the clip here. I immediately assumed the first time I saw this episode that the noticeable change in the Muppet voice actors was what prompted this joke bit in Family Guy.
@Dee - Who was the voice actor for Jaheira in SoD? I want to make sure the mod README makes the proper acknowledgments. The cast list on the press page doesn't credit actors with their roles.
i wont lie i thought it was a glitch because i wasn't seeing the speech bubble above her so the first convo i got 50% and was super annoyed then i saw the bubble and i was like "OOOHHHHHHHHH....ok" im used to jaherias voice and i admit i would be a bit mad if the voice was too different, and playing the OG for so long i can say her dialouge in my head in her accent better with the silence so im glad beamdog left her voice out but i see where you're coming from because i would have liked voiced jaheira but *shrug* you can't expect everything
Thanks! working with my saved game so hopefully wont need to restart.
Will take a while to get used it and listening to it I think it was right choice to cut it, the new accent is too Russian. I didn't think her original voice was Russian at all.
No, that is another Heidi, this one is from England and she's relatively young (in her 30-s), while the voice over actress for Jaheira was from USA and should be closer to 50-s.
