I always viewed this song as a "last gasp" of the '70s - reminded me of vintage Steve Miller.
Absolutely incredible song, from arguably the most underrated band of the decade:
Fantastic song, incredible lyrics.
If I were forced to nominate a single song as the best of the 80s, this one would be a VERY strong candidate:
Billy Ocean - Caribbean Queen
This song is from 1979 but I always thought of it as one of the 80's
Randy Vanwarmer - Just When I Needed You Most
Culture Club - Time (Clock Of The Heart)
Culture Club - Do You Really Want To Hurt Me
There's a surprising lack of Simple Minds in this thread.
Time to rectify that:
The Firm - Star Trekkin'
Epic song made even more epic by its inclusion in these movie credits:
The opening track of one of the finest albums of the entire decade:
Another track from the same album - it was reportedly recorded in only a single take:
Maxi Priest - Close to You (1990)
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Red Light (1980)
The Cure, Pictures of You
Genesis - The Brazilian
Okay it was posted before but hidden away on page 12. Still worth posting again
A-HA - The Living Daylight
I think this one's already on here but it would take ages to find it so if it is, sorry, if not here it is:
and
and
and something about completely captures the 80s:
