They got their start in the 80's (and some of their best songs are from that decade) so I'll count them as at least partly an 80's band
Anyways, for those who aren't aware Gord Downie, the lead singer of the Tragically Hip, was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer late last year. So this summer they've been doing a final series of concerts across Canada. The final concert is on August 20th. For anyone who wants to tune in the link below has some links that should work globally (at least that is my understanding)
For anyone who hasn't heard of The Hip (they never had much international success unfortunately so I wouldn't be surprised if many of you haven't) I'm pasting some of their better known songs (its a mix of 80's and 90's songs).

Fans of the original version of this song felt that this one was too over-the-top, but I always loved the driving bass and rhythm guitar riffs.
On a side note, I'd say that a few of the performers in this vid had gotten a few lines for themselves.
One of the biggest disappointment of the '80s was that this band never released a follow-up album:
A couple of my favorites from Don Henley's brilliant post-Eagles career:
All My Hollowness to You
Turning Brown and Turn in Two
Under the Sea
And all of the other songs from this.
The theme and OST fits very well in here
