Sorry i have been so busy. I still check in here but havent made new pics in a while. Its good to see people like @Isandir have stepped up in the meantime. Keep up the good work guys.
@jdemast: I should be getting ready for work right now, but I saw this and felt the urge to do a fast mini-project... The skin tones still aren't completely blended, but I unfortunately ran out of time.

This is amazing work! I appreciate you taking the time work on this
Was wondering if I could pester someone to modify one of the game's default portraits a bit? The second female one, the one holding a two-handed sword. I've always liked the portrait and thought it would work great for a paladin, but I'm not a big fan of the hair. Longer would be better (doesn't neccessarily have to be much though), no particular preference on colour. And maybe tone down the lipstick a bit? Seems to stand out a bit somehow.
Like everything else about it; the background, the "sparkles", the pose... just the hair isn't perfect.
@Silverstar: Here are three different minor variants. The lips are lighter in each, and I gave her a very slight face lift and longer hair. You had mentioned that you have no preference in respect to the color, so I chose three that I preferred. Hope these work for you...

Not bad! I gave it a try as well, and yours is better than mine.
It's a difficult piece, due to the shadows on the viewer's left side of the face. The right side of her face looks perfect, but the left is a bit off.
No problem. It helps to have extra eyes to catch things I miss. It happens a lot when you've been staring at a portrait for a while. I made a few changes to address your suggestions. The most noticeable one is the hands. I think they looked odd because there should have been shadowing on top (as the lightning is contained between them).
i think the thing about the fingers is that they actually look like they are from an overweight dude
You're absolutely right...because the best model I could find was from a rather hefty fellow. Here's a different version. I made it simpler by taking pictures of my own hands for this one. I've uploaded the largest version I made since it's easier to see the details.
Very nice work! I loved the halfling guy and the one you use as avatar especially. So nice looking while still feeling baldurised feeling. They are quite..ahem, handsome too, while most BG portraits are tad ugly. (Coran..pfft he is no charming ladies man in his portrait. Nearly every male npc has ugly portraits..except Minsc, for he has the face that ladies love! ^^)
If only your works here could be used in BG:EE project by the dev. team :-)
@lunar: Thank you! I know there was already a debate about the merits of beautiful versus "realistic" normal portraits, but I tend to side with you. I simply never used almost all of the default portraits because I felt they were so unattractive.
@lDanielHolm: It was particularly difficult to meld the two because of the monochromatic tones on the lady's neck in the hooded portrait. I think throwing a shadow onto the hair at left and/or darkening it would help the contrast on that side.
I had mentioned in a previous post that I was considering doing a portrait set based on actors who resemble BG NPCs (to replace their portraits in the game). Due to the story-based emphasis in the second game, I may start there. However, I probably won't release them until they're all finished. In the meantime, I will at least post the one that I have done, as he tends to be one of the most popular NPCs.
For Sarevok, I always imagined Michael Dorn filling the role. He had the stage presence, fantasy/sci-fi background (as Worf), and that deep, rumbling voice that could intimidate. While he's too old for the role now, it's always nice to dream... Like each of the others I will make, this one tweaks his canon appearance a bit, but I try to add details to evoke the original.

Yes, thank you, those are great . Grabbing all 3. Think my fav is the second one.
Hope you artisty people are having as much fun making all these portraits as the people playing the game with them are.

the angle of the hands is still a bit weird i am annoying i know and i am really sorry the elbows would need to be almost together to allow the hands to come out where they do at the moment. i added a picture for reference see how she holds her arms? looks a bit more realistic imho my brother is a concept artist and i got a bit sensitive for details again i am really sorry and i like the rest of your picture a lot
@Psychochilla: No worries! I'm entirely an amateur, so I don't mind the critiques. It just helps me get better; I don't look at it as a bad thing. I'll be continuing to work on that one--not just to improve the hands as you suggest, but also possibly making an alternate version more in line with the others I've done. I don't really like the watercolor look it has.
In the meantime, here's the latest one I started last night.
I took one look at this guy and thought dwarf berserker. It just snowballed from there...
This one was rather easy to make other than having to create and blend the missing portion of his head--a case in which the mixer brush was incredibly useful. The natural contrast made it easy to blend the shadows and lights, and the blood splatters were a last touch made with a simple brush, gradients and layer masks to better fit the shading.
I thought this model has halfling-esque features, so I gave her a hint of pointed ears (though that's technically more gnomes). She could probably function as any number of races.

Each of these would make a great BG avatar with just a bit of crop work and some Baldurization. I'd do the work myself if I had the right software... as it is, I hope they make for some good inspiration for someone with the time and talent.
@Godwine: I liked the picture of Katie McGrath, though it was difficult to work with due to the lack of contrast. Making it any better would require painting her face over with artificial shadows--not my forte. I may give one of the others a shot as well if I get the time.
Does anyone have any decent Bard portraits (other than than that excellent one with the beard recently posted, that could either be a Jester of Berserker - the only issue with that one is that I usually want a half-elf for a Bard, for the pick-pocketing bonus and 30% sleep/charm resistance, and he looks too human/dwarf)?

pretty good for a beginner
Gerard Butler
Eoin Macken
Katie McGrath
Bridget Regan
would probably make a great portrait for BG
Jessica Nigri; this baldurized would be very nice for me:
A Drow priestess of Loth:
Shar-Teel (looks like a bulldozer on original pic)
Edwin (doesn't look Thayian enough)
Dorn (why is he purple anyway?)
