So Baldurs Gate in your opinion is about not being in 3D and having the ability to call yourself Dickshit and being able to cheat.
Very mature. I'm quite glad you'll never log in. In fact I may just kill any PC called Dickshit I come across just in case...
Dickshit is a real surname, and it wasn't my example, I was quoting it.
Though I've had a character in DDO called 'Stiffywood Mcpingaspants' for about a year now and everyone actually finds it funny. On the other hand I got temp banned with a forced rename in GW2 for the name D Is For Lysdexia and quit playing because it was my second main character for over 6 years of the first game.
Yes yes, Dickshit may well be a real surname but it's hardly innocent is it?
And calling a character 'D Is For Lysdexia' and wondering why you were forced to change the name? I'll give it to you slowly. It's not a name. It's a statement.
The first name, 'Stiffywood Mcpingaspants'. Hilarious as it is it shows first hand your maturity level. But you know what? Chances are you could get away with that one.
Dickshit is a 100% genuine and innocent surname from India. Its not based on the English language whatsoever, and long predates the slang meanings of the the two syllables within it.
Stiffywood was a name I made for the upcoming druid class. It sounds all tree like and woody, and I thought the inuendo was hilarious. No one in that game has been offended by it, and surprisingly most people laugh when they see the name.
As fir the other name, who cares at all if its a name or a statement? I could type a whole load of random gibberish into the character creator and click the create character button, so what? People who enjoy MMOs seem to simply be powermad about forcing every other player to abide to some ridiculous role playing rules, which is incredibly sad when games are simply meant to be played to have fun.
You still miss the point entirely, I don't believe that players should be penalised in anyway based on their names or how they play a game, hence why I make them. In single player games I can name my characters whatever I want. I can do absolutely whatever I want. And I can carry on playing the game without being banned. This is why I can't stand online games, when more so when one tries to rip off a single player masterpiece.
I have played on BG-TSCC quite a bit.And it can be very fun. But the big issue for me really isn't BG-TSCC fault its more of a NWN 2 engine limitations. The DM's are very helpful , but sometimes they are not on to help.
I have had quite a few level 20+ characters both surface and Underdark. The surface is much bigger than Underdark of course. But I prefer the Underdark it overall has better RP if that is your sort of thing. The world if very brutal and unforgiving. You lose XP(100 per level) when you die. 100 XP per level dont sound like much , but when you get to higher levels you cant kill anything that gives you over 40xp.Stuff that gives you 7 XP can kill you. This stuff I have no issue with really if I'm prepared what I'm facing.
It is the bugs and lack of NWN 2 network coding that makes it frustrating for me. BG-TSCC have made great strides to improve this by getting rid of bugs and making a Event server. But no matter what your PC specs is if you get 10+ people in the same zone you will not have a clue what is going on if spells and enemies are in the same zone. You get a slideshow on your screen. Most the time a DM will rez you if you die during a event , but I would say 95% of the time you die in a event is not the enemies its the slow down of the game.
I have had very simple bugs that can be fixed very easy if a DM is on.To a bug where a DM has told me he has no clue what is wrong with my character(every time I re spawned I would die again). The RP is fun and great , but the way the server is set up you need a party to do almost anything outside of towns. Now this is cool cause you have to meet and talk to other players, but it limits your role playing choices when making your character.I have had great moments like getting arrested for having a weapon out in Candlekeep , then have to stay in jail for a short time.To the bad RP moments getting killed by flaming fist guards(players) while questing cause I had the same last name(random generated) as some assassin that killed another player.
I would recommend it to anyone who loves RP and dont mind the dying a lot.But not much to the people who are used to current day MMO's who want to level fast and kill bosses.I fall in between these two types its why I come back every so often to play some.
Dickshit is a 100% genuine and innocent surname from India. Its not based on the English language whatsoever, and long predates the slang meanings of the the two syllables within it.
Then go play on an indian server. Oh there aren't any? Then I guess you'll need to abide by language rules of the server you do decide to play on - which I'm guessing will be English. In English Dickshit is offensive. Was that really so difficult to comprehend?
Stiffywood was a name I made for the upcoming druid class. It sounds all tree like and woody, and I thought the inuendo was hilarious. No one in that game has been offended by it, and surprisingly most people laugh when they see the name.
As I already mentioned it is obviously hilarious, if you are 8 years old... And no it's not really offensive, just juvenile. AND I think I said you could probably get away with it.
And here we come to the social problems bit. Other people are also playing in a fashion they want to play in. The fact you have a stupid statement instead of a name lessens their enjoyment. You are ONE person who want to be a dick and prove a point whereas everyone equals MANY people who want to enjoy the game. Therefore rules are in place for the enjoyment of the many instead of the dickishness of the few.
No, I get your point. I just disagree with it.
If you play NWN2 you can play the single player game in whatever fashion you want to, feel free to call your character Knobslinger the Knobish Gnome and feel free to cheat all your stats to 50 etc. As soon as you log onto a FREE persistant world where people are dedicating time, effort and money into creating and hosting it then you agree to abide by their rules which are set up to provide enjoyment to the most people and prevent assholes from spoiling everyone's enjoyment.
If you don't like it then vote with your dollar and don't pay anything for it... Oh yeah it's free... Well just don't log in if you don't like it. I can't see anything more simple.
And there was no 'ripping off a single player masterpiece'. Baldurs Gate was the inspiration for the creation of this NWN2 PW. As someone else has already mentioned it is more of a tribute.
There is BTW a downloadable Icewind Dale module for NWN2. It's single player so you can do whatever you like in it. Is that a rip off too?
During my nine years of playing NWN and NWN 2 in multiplayer mode I have seen a few servers where absolutely everything is allowed with no rules, except maybe some really serious stuff related to hacking which compromises integrity of a server or does financial harm to an Internet service provider. I believe there are still some servers remaining where you can swear, kill others, kill NPCs, name your characters whatever you like, insult other people IC or OOC, and so on. As you can imagine, people who play there are very different from people who play on RP servers. Administratos and DMs are often quite different too. If you really want to run your own Baldur's Gate server with all-out chaos and absolutely no rules, you can do that. Original developers uploaded the BGTSCC module to the NWNvault. You can download the module, tweak some things in whatever way you like, and set up a dedicated server.
Dino is right in saying that in NWN and NWN 2 a lot of power is in the hands of server administrators, who are "ordinary" people like all of us and not owners or employees of professional companies whose livelihood depends on the success and popularity of their games. However, administrators and GMs/DMs of many servers in NWN and NWN 2 have been doing excellent work and have been as responsible as employees of commercial MMORPG games. In NWN 1 there are a few servers which have existed for as long as 8-10 years now and have dedicated communities.
Most people over the age of 25 enjoyed my character names of Stiffywood and D Is For Lysdexia. It bought humor for them into an otherwise dull and OTT strict video game where absolutely no one is allowed to tell an adult joke without being banned. DDO in particular mostly consists of an more mature and older adult player base, who simply aren't easily offended and see the humor behind such things rather than pretending to be offended to try and sound cool like a 12 year old. On the otherhand, Id only expect an 8 year old to be able to come up with an example such as 'dickshit', which wasn't even my example nor a name that I would use, I merely pointed out how in fact it is a real name.
It has nothing to do with maturity, its entirely to do with a sense of humor, something that the DMs and mods in charge of MMOs want to eradicate entirely from their online experience, and other players simply agree with it in an effort to suck up to the ridiculous system.
On this NWN server, you cannot even talk out of character without being banned, never mind everyone being forced into playing RP names. Regarding socializing, if you've actually ever tried to do that in real life rather than foolishly thinking that socializing = chatting to people in an online video game, you will hear swear words, rude jokes, and many of the things you find to be so immature in a video game in real life. And no, in the real world you don't get banned from a social venue for simply swearing or making an adult joke among other people.
I wonder how you people that are so easilly offended in online games manage to cope in the real world, oh right, you most likely don't. Real life socialising is a long lost art among the MMO community, instead they enjoy getting their rocks off and rubbing one out any time they can complain about another players use of language, character name, or any slight thing that offends them claiming that such things are immature.
If you were as mature or social as you claimed to be, none of these things would cause you to become so easily offended.
One other thing I don't get - in BG you have evil characters available such as Eldoth, Kagain, Xzar, Viconia, Edwin and whoever else. Most, if not all of these have some level of offensive dialogue to go with their character being evil. Yet I have never once found an MMO that allows this kind of evil to be role played within the game, and doing so would be against the rules and any such player banned. MMOs completely disallow a lot of the RP that is possible in single player games with scripted NPCs, kind of ironic that so many of them are setup with RP servers, yet that RP only allows you to roleplay lawful good personalities.
I saw your other 'favorite character names'. You seem to have a real penis obsession. This in itself may not be a bad thing but to try to style every character name around the topic shows something isn't quite right with you. You remind me of beavis and butthead, sniggering away every time someone says 'boobies' or 'butthole'...
On the otherhand, Id only expect an 8 year old to be able to come up with an example such as 'dickshit', which wasn't even my example nor a name that I would use, I merely pointed out how in fact it is a real name.
On this NWN server, you cannot even talk out of character without being banned, never mind everyone being forced into playing RP names
I can confirm this isn't true, it is good manners however to preface such talk with ///. However as you seem to be convinced by this please provide proof so you can confirm you aren't talking out of your ass.

Again wrong - I think the last time a playervault tally was done around a third of all PCs were evil. I've seen plenty of evil RP, some good, some bad. All valid though. Once again as you seem to know this as fact please provide proof.
And to reiterate as I've mentioned before. I rarely RP, I'm not a massive fan of it. I prefer to kill stuff and grunt a few dialogue lines out if the mood takes me. A few player turn their noses up at this but the majority really don't mind. Alongside this DMs and the like don't mind either. As long as you aren't being a prick to everyone else around you in an OOC fashion then you'll be fine. Feel free to be a prick in an IC fashion although beware that someone may decide to squash you if you rub them up the wrong way. In character though of course...
Off the back of this I'm really not offended in the slightest, I just disagree with you in pretty much everything - mainly as you are working off of preconceptions and assumptions rather than fact. I get you may not like online play and I'm fine with that. However your logic you are presenting is flawed mainly through lack of actual experience.
I just reached level 10 and an awesome adventure dealing with a small Orc raid. They were a raiding party south of some Elven village they were besieging that my party fellows knew about.
This is so addicting; I'm going to try to get someone to visit the Gnoll Fortress with me tomorrow.
I'm judging based entirely on the server rules written on the official forum for this mod:
- Entirely RP server. Unless typing in party chat or whispers, you have to stay in character at all times.
- You are not allowed to reroll / undo any level ups to your character. If you make any mistakes you have to stick to them. If you have no idea how to build a character or you don't pre plan with a builder program, tough luck.
- If multi classing, you must take at least 3 levels per class before level 20 to prevent powergaming. Failure to do so gets your character deleted.
Pretty horrible rules for what is meant to be a Baldurs Gate rip off, I definitely don't have to abide to those rules when playing BG.
Also naming rules - you can't have any descriptive names like X of the Y. If you make any such name they automatically rename your character. Role playing names only, and you have to remain in character. Its basically a server controlled by a few sad power obsessed people, and actually seems a lot worse than any ordinary MMO.
- Entirely RP server. Unless typing in party chat or whispers, you have to stay in character at all times.
Rarely really enforced unless you are persistently doing it. Bear in mind this is themed as an RP server so roleplay in strongly encouraged. There are many other servers where role-play is optional. If sticking to RP isn't for you then I'd suggest trying elsewhere.
- You are not allowed to reroll / undo any level ups to your character. If you make any mistakes you have to stick to them. If you have no idea how to build a character or you don't pre plan with a builder program, tough luck.
Correct. Pre-planning on www.nwn2db.com is highly recommended. If you do screw up a on a feat choice/class choice etc your only course is to ask a DM to delevel you to a point where you can rectify the error. Whilst I don't really like this I can see why it is done as it allows the DMs to concentrate on actually DMing the world instead of spending their entire time doing rebuilds. It does as you say mean you need to plan out your build in advance - which with 3.5 rules you should really be doing anyway.
- If multi classing, you must take at least 3 levels per class before level 20 to prevent powergaming. Failure to do so gets your character deleted.
This is something implemented on this and other RP servers which I don't agree with. The anti-powerbuilding rules don't achieve their aims and IMO make things more unrealistic. I've never quite seen the logic behind it - however it seems to be the norm across the majority of RP themed NWN2 servers so that's just how it is.
Also naming rules - you can't have any descriptive names like X of the Y. If you make any such name they automatically rename your character. Role playing names only, and you have to remain in character. Its basically a server controlled by a few sad power obsessed people.
Because it is a persistent world which actually advances the storyline for certain factions having an X of the Y name may implicate you in a player or DM controlled faction when in actuality you have no connection with it at all. I'm fairly sure if you had an X of the Y name where Y was something totally made up and unconnected with the current world then there would be no issues.
You may find it hard to believe but many Baldurs Gate players actually intend to play BG:EE in a similar RP fashion to that layout out in the NWN2 world. Talking and playing totally in character, not having god stats and picking choices most relevant to their PC rather than those most advantageous. The RP rules are bread and butter for them.
Me? I like to have a stat-spread of 95+ and stomp things. However I'm open to the idea of other people playing in different styles. I just don't want to do it. The point being I don't expect everything and everyone to echo my playstyle. From reading these forums I can see many more people get a kick out of proper RP within Baldurs Gate than I would've guessed and it's to these people that RP worlds cater for.
You've obviously found the BGTSCC forums. If you have any actual beef I suggest taking it up there.
I've had OOC (((/// conversations with DM's... I've even been in a party for two hours where not once we were IC, all cracking jokes in ////... It's not illegal. Pull your head out of your ass.
You can reroll as much as you like. You can be deleveled at any time if you messed up your character. You can do something called RCR which lets you delete your character and store 50% of your exp for a new toon.
It's a simple server rule. They just want you to have an rp reason for taking the class, so 3 levels means it's actually a part of your character, not just the level 1 ability. not a big deal.
You can't even compare rules from different editions of D&D... I don't even know what to say to that.
And I love these kinds of servers, reminds me of Everquest back in the day. You couldn't name your character dickshit, generally all chat was IC, you had an /OOC channel for talking OOC.
And for christ sakes, quit bringing up and recycling old shit WE HAVE ALREADY TALKED ABOUT. Accept your wrongness and move on.
@boooom If you want to find someone to go to the gnoll caves with you, keep an eye our for "Meleketh"... He'll come along for a bit ^^ @decado you too!
The gnoll caves is an interesting area. Two or three levels below the gnoll caves you will find an older cavern with an ancient beholder guarding some treasures. It's a good idea to take a paladin or blackguard with you who has high saving throws against beholder's rays.
One other thing I don't get - in BG you have evil characters available such as Eldoth, Kagain, Xzar, Viconia, Edwin and whoever else. Most, if not all of these have some level of offensive dialogue to go with their character being evil. In NWN and NWN 2 games you need to choose a voice set when you create a character. You also do this in multiplayer when you play BGTSCC or anywhere else. Some voice sets have quite brutal dialogue lines and some are made precisely for evil characters. I can give you some examples...
"Vith dos" (means "F**k you" in English, it's in one of the drow voice sets) "Pike off" "Filthy swine" "I think you might look better with your skin flayed from your bones" "I am gonna rip your head off and make it my puppet." "Try not to bleed too much on me, fool. Just die already." "Mess with me and I'll be looting your corpse before it hits the ground." "This is your only warning. Next time I'll tear your throat out." "May the darkness claim you. I will drain you." "Score one for the dark" "One wrong move and I will scour the hells with your blood." "Death and damnation" "If we stop to rest, I promise you won't die in your sleep"
"I want to see some suffering. Your remains shall decorate my home. I will take special pleasure in this. Look at them... little ducks, all in a row. I see fear in your eyes, it's good. I could alleviate your suffering to an art form." (from a voice set called "Male, Sociopath")
"Try that and I will grind you to a powder. I'm gonna mount you on an end of a pike. Made yourself exposed, you idiot. You lecherous filth. Damnit. Take your eyes off my arse. Try it and you'll be spitting teeth for a week. Oh, if I were you, I would be prepared to pick up those teeth." (a female voice set called "Tiefling, Female" made by a young woman with heavy Scottish or Irish accent )
Sometimes people in a party interact with each other using dialogue lines from their voice sets. You could have something like this going on between two people in a party who have "Male, Sociopath" and "Female, Tiefling" voicesets:
M: Time to go. I need protection, if you be so kind. Let us gather together. F: Very well. Let's stay together. The sooner we're gone from here, the better. Watch my back. M: You're thinking. That's good. F: All right, then. Where to next? M: Follow me, I have such sights to show. F: All right. Why not. Oh, adventure, glory... aye, this is the life.
F: Damnit. Take your eyes off my arse. M: I sense more here than meets the eye. I have a need of you. F: You lecherous filth. M: I require your succor. F: Ahh, I want no more of this, I don't. I've never seen someone as ugly, I've not. M: Well, now that comes as a surprise.
M: Look at them, little ducks, all in a row. F: Damnit. Made yourself exposed, you idiot. M: I want to see some suffering. F: Try that and I will grind you to a powder. M: This should be of interest. F: Try it and you'll be spitting teeth for a week. M: I could alleviate your suffering to an art form. I will take special pleasure in this. F: Oh, if I were you, I would be prepared to pick up those teeth. M: I see fear in your eyes, it's good. Your remains shall decorate my home. F: You lecherous filth. I'm gonna mount you on an end of a pike. M: I'm beginning to find you dull. Such a waste of brain matter. Time to go. F: Time to kick some back.

You don't even know the rules yourself do you? That's funny.
OOC chat is allowed via whispers and in party chat, so your point is meaningless (this is what I already said).
Having to take 3 levels per multiclass before level 20 is not a D&D rule, its a forced facist server rule. So what if players take 10 classes in one class at a time like they do in single player? Why the hell do the moderators care if I make my 10 mage / 10 ASOC / 10 red mage? In fact if powergaming, 7 mage / 10 ASOC / 10 RW / 3 mage is far more powerful, because then the 10th wizard level lets you pick a free additional high level feat.
You are NOT allowed to reroll as much as you like, it is banned by the rules of the server which you yourself havnt even read. Once you make a character on the server you have to keep it. Sure you can refill as long as a mod doesn't find out, but if they do they have a reason to delete your character / ban your account. And as for your stupid example of a name being 'dickshit', you couldn't even make this name in any game because it would violate the built in filter. However you surely can make the name Hardwood, stiffwood or Mamory the White as examples in any such games as those words are not banned, yet people like you will still rage and complain over them and get those players banned, even on non RP games / servers.
The worst thing about MMOs / online servers really isn't just the rules or mods themselves, but the mere fact that such games are populated by a bootlicking player base like yourself - 'OMG someone broke the rules, im gonna grass them up because then the mods will probably like me more and that player will get banned hahahaha'.
@Yathrin so what if there are such voice sets? The issue is whether the players are allowed to type such lines themselves without being banned, which in every ordinary MMO is not the case. Typing things like that in most online games would get your account banned.
And what would be so wrong if they released this as a standalone single player campaign too, giving players the options to actually play the game however they want?
I won't play it because of the rules. I surely would like to check it out if it was single player, but there's no way I'm wasting time on online games again.
Playing the game everyday doesn't mean that you are aware the rules. 99% of people playing online games won't even read the rules before they sign up to play because they simply don't care. It definitely matters to me when I read clauses telling me I can have my account banned for simply playing the game however I want, even if I'm not cheating which is the case here and with all other online games. And its even more hilarious that people like you think you know better simply because you play it, yet you've never even read the rules that you signed up to so you could play the game in the first place.
If anything, baldurs gate is primarilly a single player game with zero limitations on the players freedom to play however they like. Any remake of the game should honor this and remain single player first and foremost, without dictating how players can enjoy the game.
And i'm quite aware of the rules. The best rules your going to get is from talking to the DM's. I've read the rules MANY times. The more you talk to DM's & the other players, the more of an understanding you get from them.
I didn't see that mentioned. I see 'Online Baldurs Gate game'. I googled the mod and I went to its primary website and read the rules of the game, and they are worse than just about every major MMO out there.
No one has actually written how to play the module offline in single player, every post in this thread is about playing it online under facist server rules.
So how exactly does a person download this mod and play it single player without any DMs?
I didnt even mention it being a rip off again, but my point still stands that a mod for a game as crap as NWN has no right to be called Baldurs Gate, and it is simply a massive insult to the greatest RPG ever made.
Just ignore him, people. He has no valid complaints. He refuses to listen to counterarguments or find out what the server is actually like. He's either a troll or a fool. Stop giving him any response and he will go away.
Muahaha! You'll never guess what I was witness to!
There was a nercomancer I caught plying his evil trade with a bunch of adventures and when he tried to run away rather than surrender he teleported out! He actually teleported! Mages can do that :O
I met the guy again later by chance and when I confronted him he teleported again! Except it turns out this time it wasn't really a teleport. Its like he just went invisible but appeared to teleport. We were all like: "HUH? That guy is still here?! Didn't he teleport?!" (he summoned a monster and buffed, catching us by surprise)
I remember this spell from BG I and II, I think it's either Mislead or Shadow Door.
Comments
And calling a character 'D Is For Lysdexia' and wondering why you were forced to change the name? I'll give it to you slowly. It's not a name. It's a statement.
The first name, 'Stiffywood Mcpingaspants'. Hilarious as it is it shows first hand your maturity level. But you know what? Chances are you could get away with that one.
It's not a rip off, I see it as a tribute. to each their own. The creators gain nothing from their tribute.
Dino is right in saying that in NWN and NWN 2 a lot of power is in the hands of server administrators, who are "ordinary" people like all of us and not owners or employees of professional companies whose livelihood depends on the success and popularity of their games. However, administrators and GMs/DMs of many servers in NWN and NWN 2 have been doing excellent work and have been as responsible as employees of commercial MMORPG games. In NWN 1 there are a few servers which have existed for as long as 8-10 years now and have dedicated communities.
Fail...
I can confirm this isn't true, it is good manners however to preface such talk with ///. However as you seem to be convinced by this please provide proof so you can confirm you aren't talking out of your ass.
It's not the real world... It's an online game... If you don't like it then don't log on. Noone is forcing you.
In NWN and NWN 2 games you need to choose a voice set when you create a character. You also do this in multiplayer when you play BGTSCC or anywhere else. Some voice sets have quite brutal dialogue lines and some are made precisely for evil characters. I can give you some examples...
"Vith dos" (means "F**k you" in English, it's in one of the drow voice sets)
"Pike off"
"Filthy swine"
"I think you might look better with your skin flayed from your bones"
"I am gonna rip your head off and make it my puppet."
"Try not to bleed too much on me, fool. Just die already."
"Mess with me and I'll be looting your corpse before it hits the ground."
"This is your only warning. Next time I'll tear your throat out."
"May the darkness claim you. I will drain you."
"Score one for the dark"
"One wrong move and I will scour the hells with your blood."
"Death and damnation"
"If we stop to rest, I promise you won't die in your sleep"

And for the xth time, no one is making you play, brah.
So how exactly does a person download this mod and play it single player without any DMs?
I didnt even mention it being a rip off again, but my point still stands that a mod for a game as crap as NWN has no right to be called Baldurs Gate, and it is simply a massive insult to the greatest RPG ever made.
