You were right, though, there is teleportation spells ingame as far as I understand.
  • RenulanRenulan Member Posts: 109
Haha. His name wasn't Meleketh, was it? :P... Yeah we can teleport. costs us 850g per spell and has a chance of failure. We can mark a stone with a location and cast our spell on the stone and it will send us to that spot.

They introduced teleportation spells less than a year ago.

Here is a good map of the Underdark if someone started to play there:

The only major location missing on the map is the illithid hive.

Some Underdark "boss" monsters: Duergar King, Undead Dragon, Elder Brain, Pit Fiend

@Yathrin So far i'm level 15. (5wizard/10Rwizard) When is it acceptable to start venturing down there? Is it only a level 30 thing? or with a decent enough party can you head down earlier?

I'd have joined that server AGES ago if I'd found a place to buy the damn game. Point me in the right direction?

The Gamersgate one seems the least intrusive DRMwise (and in fact there is a workaround to circumvent their installation check should they go bust). The other ones require an app to run so are probably not worth your time - I could be wrong on this one, I haven't researched it in any depth.

I'm probably going to log on this evening around 8pm UK time-ish. Keep an eye out for me, I have an epic level Dwarven Defender, a level 12 mage and a couple of newbies toons. Always willing to roll up a new PC too as I have a massive backlog of ideas and builds saved on www.nwn2db.com.

I don't know how it is nowadays because in the past developers used to change things and maps related to the journey between the surface and the Underdark and might have changed something again since I did the journey 7-9 months ago. It was a nasty trip and usually only an epic party with some powerful characters could survive it, unless you got teleported during some DM event.
  • YathrinYathrin Member Posts: 70
We tried the trip once from the Underdark to the surface with 3-4 people when my character was still only level 20-24 and everybody died half the way through. The only time I got to the surface with an Underdark character was during the chain of events related to the war between Amn and Baldur's Gate. It was an interesting experience. We got teleported from the drow city in the Underdark to a pirate ship in the middle of the sea on the surface.

Excellent. You can expect to see me upon the direct deposit of my next pay cheque :D I like to play either LN or NE characters, the occasional CN... How's the gate? Accurate? The Elfsong? Gahh! Movember holds almost too much epic!

It sucks you need to have Neverwinter Nights 2 plus the expansion to play this though...I really was iffy with Neverwinter Nights 2 so I didn't bother with the expansion...that's when I got into MMORPGs. Why Bioware....why did you force me to resort to such games??? </3

Mask of the Betrayer was arguably superior to the original NWN2. I haven't played the other expansions. My biggest fatigue issue playing that game is the camera.
  • scriverscriver Member Posts: 2,072
Mask of the Betrayer was leagues better than the base game. Also more awesome.

    excellent?

recently they pushed one of the top NWN2 developers to almost leave the community

another recent example ( scroll down )

    http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/161/index/3122535/2

if you're curious about a 3d Baldur's Gate i would wait for this

but if you don't like NWN2 graphics the community has made a lot of mods

Yeah that's not cool at all. There's been some discussion with K on a little forum I have and there is bad feelings on both sides it seems.

BTW, there is a new NWN2 PW in the works, it's still in alpha testing and still being built but seems very promising.

NWN2 doesnt seem to be on steam anymore, nor on GOG. damn.

I just discovered that Gamestop is selling D&D Ultimate Pack which includes Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Icewind Dale 1 & 2, Planescape Torment, The Temple of Elemental Evil, Neverwinter Nights 1 with all expansions, and Neverwinter Nights 2 with all expansions. They are selling the whole pack for $45 as a digital download version. It says on the website that you can download the games individually but the total installation size is 60 GB if someone downloads and installs all of those games.

I got it for 20$ from them >.>

    Nice!

From what I read about that custom content thing on the Baldurs Gate forums he was asking them not use stuff (afterwards) that he had made publically available, because they had a fallout. I don't think (any) author can do that after free online publication without specificying terms of use. It is and should be effectively out of your control then plus it also makes the server I play on more fun - so I am biased I guess. (I agree with BG staff's argument here)

I'm taking a stab in the dark here, but I'd guess that the NWN2 EULA also doesn't allow you to make any authorship reservations. All your work are belong to Bioware / Obsidian :P

As far as custom content was discussed, there's plenty on the server that isn't from him. It sounds to me that he's just bashing them because of his own weltschmerts issue.

I'm having fun there and there are regular new content updates to reflect the storylines progressing or simply new custom feature additions. I appreciate that level of dedication, especially since this server is apparantly run by VOLUNTEERS and funded through DONATIONS. :O

It has been the single best MMORPG experience I've had. True roleplaying and not feeling like one of a hundred thousand people at the same time. I'd say stop making drama and just play wherever you like and do what you can to make it better. it is a game and hobby after all. This is the attitude I'm inspired to adopt by this free 2 play server and I think its the American spirit.

What happened to the Friendly Arms Inn map? I discovered recently that the map was changed. The campfire place was gone, vegetation looked more barren and there were also minor changes like that. Are the changes related to some event or just reflect the change of seasons? Last year the maps of Nashkel and mountains south of Nashkel were changed from grassy green to snowy white versions when winter arrived in real life.

Yes, that's exactly how I've felt for the last nine years since NWN 1 was released and I started playing it online in 2003. It's hard getting back to "real" MMORPGs with their less individualised gameplay experience after playing NWN games in decent online worlds. One of my most interesting experiences was playing in a vampire clan and serving as an agent of a vampire king in one world in NWN 1. After a few years we even got our own nice vampire tomb which had some curious secret perks. It was stylised after Bodhi's tomb from Baldur's Gate 2 and had some secret doors and passage ways, a "blood bath" area, a special NPC, a nasty trapped room and a throne room with a black moon.

Player activity at BGTSCC will most likely decrease for a while due to the release of BG:EE but it should recover after people complete the single player game, unless BG:EE will support MMORPG style multiplayer and not just co-op in single player campaign.
  • YathrinYathrin Member Posts: 70
This week Gamespy has stopped supporting many older games including NWN 1 and NWN 2. Fortunately, this doesn't really affect NWN1/NWN2 but many other games will now be unplayable in multiplayer. In order to play BGTSCC now you need to use the "Direct Connect" button instead of the "Join Internet Game" button and insert the IP address of the server, which is 208.94.245.10:5121.

I haven't tried this NWN2 server because to be honest I don't like the GFX in NWN2 for some reason but I been playing on Arelith NWN1 server for almost 2 years and the rules are similar and doesn't even bother me at all, the game are great fun for free, I'm going to take a second look to this NWN2 server soon..

I'm having trouble finding where to connect or find the server. I sign in then authorization fails. Then it takes me to a gamespy aerver selection menu. No server is listed anywhere and when I click refresh server the game crashes. I'm up to date and have storms of zehir and I have the steam version.
