the aging Bhaalspawn is the Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate, and he thinks that everything is cool because he won back then, but the real deal is that when only one remains Bhaal will rise, and one assassin has been hiding and hunting this whole time, and the players don't know this.
So either the players get bogged down fighting other foes and the assassin slays Abdel Adrian (or a CHARNAME if your DM is cooler than the written adventure), or the players help out without knowing any of this and help slay the assassin...and when that happens, the Slayer avatar erupts out of the final Bhaalspawn (whoever it is) and heralds the return of Bhaal.
Eh. He got two hundred years, most of which he was surrounded by people who deeply respected him. That's more than most humans get.
On a side note, I don't really want them touching Planescape Torment. I can't see them making it better plotwise, and I'm not sure that enhanced interface alone would sell that many copies.
I agree, but I like that about it! It'd be especially impactful if you're a DM running players who've played Baldur's Gate through the module. I'd so love to be like "what were your favourite playthroughs?" during character creation and then cobble together a "canon for your home game" version of charname in collaboration with your players while they're making their characters for your homegame so that having them meet the Bhaalspawn Grand Duke/Duchess before it all goes down would feel more personal.
Personally my headcanon Charname is a neutral good human bard who eventually gets engaged with Aerie.(still helping Viconia and Neera though).
My headcanon is the first character I cleared ToB with starting from Candlekeep, who was a neutral good human mage who eventually gets engaged with Aerie.
I remember him well, because my second run through I was a lawful good human paladin because I'd read online you could romance Anomen, and I remember I finished the run just before school started in September, and then while I was doing my first attempt at a third run through to the end of ToB (still in BG1 at the time) 9/11 happened, so weirdly I will always remember my first three ToB completions because they're the only ones I started pre-9/11, and one ran through and past it (TN human kensai).
So maybe they showed WotC the final document David Gaider drafted before?
Well I truly hope it was a pitch for a new original full-blown Forgotten Realms crpg. Both Beamdog and WotC badly need a successful new game. Beamdog is never going to shine as a game-maker doing just remakes of and expansions to old games, and WotC desperately needs to get past the disaster of Sword Coast Legends.

Its a pity though that a D&D computer game will never reach the same popularity of games like Undertale, a pc only game which is loved by everyone despite being pc only.

I wouldn't be so sure. I think it is entirely feasible to make a very popular D&D crpg given a very strong writing team and a very dedicated and focused effort from the game-maker. The new 5e D&D rules are especially great for creating a new game that will keep old fans satisfied while being very attractive to newcomers. This is why I've been beating the drums (even if often all by my lonesome self) for Beamdog to stop wasting time and talent on future expansions and enhanced editions for old games when they ought to be focused on moving on to a brand new game with a new engine.
SoD ought to be the last expansion to an old game Beamdog ever makes.
PS:T EE ought to be the last enhanced edition Beamdog ever makes, if that.
Bring on a new game, Beamdog. Show us what you can really do!
I wouldn't call it "wasting time and talent on expansions and enhanced editions". After all, I've enjoyed the EEs a lot and put a lot of hours into them. So I wouldn't look at any new EE as at a result of wasting time and talent.
5e is definitely easier for newcomers to the D&D rules. Yes, Beamdog sure haven't been 'wasting time' with their EEs and expansions. Beamdog's still relatively new and therefore I call it progression

But of course I would be happy to get a new game.
Sorry, I should have said "wasting time and talent on future expansions and enhanced editions." I agree I also have been very happy with the three EEs they've done as well as SoD.
I really, really hope they work on a BG3 game, which USES 5E rules. The 5E ruleset is, to me, very intuitive and would really allow a game using it to shine.
Unfortunately, to date, the only "5E game" in existence didn't really use the 5E ruleset at all AND completely flopped due to the bad business decisions that the game creators made.
One thing that I would say is an ABSOLUTE requirement for any new D&D games that don't use the Infinity Engine is a Modder Toolset, like we had for both Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2. The days of modders being forced to code and create their own tools (like folks did back in the late '90s and early '00s) are over! We need a toolset, and we need a proper DM mode/custom campaign creator. Sword Coast Legends brought forth the idea of custom campaigns being created using a DM Mode. But they didn't go far enough. If you're going to allow the player to create custom content, then allow them to create ANYTHING. New races, new classes, new areas, new enemies, new models, NEW...ALL THE THINGS!
Quickly someone rotate that picture!.... Well it works in the movies
A credible tv show showed me that we zoom in on Trent's glasses, rotate the picture and enhance it.
We need to triangulate the reflection in Trent's glasses with the gleam from Phil's head. Flip those and merge them together to create a full 3D picture.

They have the special ability to tell you things that make you go, "What is that I don't even."
They're also huge fans of doing the exploding fist-bump.

eye of the beholderPhillip's laptop?Yes, moddability is very important.
Hmmmm... could it be related to anything that is being discussed in this thread?
