Why was the UI discussion thread closed?

Though I can understand your moving it, closing it really feels wrong to me. Especially as there was some very good input there, as well as respectful discussion. Did you not like the input you saw there? Starting some new, more specific, threads may be a good idea, but I don’t understand why that requires closing the other one.
