Well, I hope they are dead - I consider it the duty of every leasure fisher to kill their catch without delay, e.g. with a firm blow to the head. A good birch log will do. And it means it's at least not some catch and release nonesense that i perso quite despise.
I like fishing except for the part of killing the fish, which I could outsourc to my uncle as a kiddie.
But if someone is bent on this rocking business, I suggest being sure you know how to swim and still not doing it too far from the shore...

Shouldn't you keep the fish alive so that it is fresher upon preparation?
