Korgath grabbed a very special Dagger in the Coastway Forest - the so called "Gemblade +1"
"20% chance per hit that a random gem will be generated in the wielder´s gem". Okay, Korgath thought - lets see how this works exactly! And so he hit immortal Pfaug in the Camp again and again. At the end he had generated 100 Gems - here are the results:
It looks like the Gemblade is able to create any gem even though the likelihood differs from 1% to 10%. But thats maybe a result of the small sample. And: Even after 100 rolls there is still no Rogue Stone. Further tests will have to show if there is any chance to get it.
But the Gemblade +1 also offers another secret: After the 30 charges are used it transforms into a new weapon:
Caligula is still alive. He managed to clear the dwarven mine. Good god...
Well, that was rough. There's not much to say, really, other than it involved an obscene amount of kiting. Two creatures really managed to complicate things : Shadowed Souls, because of their magic attack that dealt a solid amount of damage at range and Skeleton Warriors, because they're really tough and almost completely resistant to missile damage...
However, if you gulp a potion of Magic Protection and wear the Cloak of Balduran (75% MR), Shadowed Souls don't use their range magic attack. I supose the AI believes the chance of hitting through MR is not high enough. It was a nice, but costly, way to shut them down.
I was particularly unlucky against Skeleton Warriors. Arrows were doing only 1 point of damage on hit, so, there was no way in hell that I was going to kite them at range. So melee it was. With my AC, they had to roll 14 of better to hit me, so they had 35% chance of doing so. Good enough for hit-and-run I thought. Well, I don't know what happened, but they ALWAYS managed to get a hit on me. I'm not kidding : while I was trying to hit-and-run them, they were not only able to sneak an attack once in a while, but they were hitting something like 90% of the time. Always, 16, 18, 17 on attack rolls... It was so ridiculous that I was actually laughing near the end... I had to burn through an entire Durlag's Goblet to finish two of those. Good god that was ridiculous.
Here are some pics of the fights. If you look closely, the Durlag's Goblet of out of charges against the Skeleton Warriors :
When I met the dwarven lich (what a weird combination, really, I always thought dwarves were non magical creatures), I decided to help him with the necklaces. I'm Lawful Evil, after all. I only had to kill the last dwarf, the cleric boss (don't remember his name) and take the last necklace from his body. All the others died at the hands of the undeads of the first level. Luckily, I kept all the necklaces when his acolytes died. Are they considered quest items ? If I wouldn't have picked them, would have they disappeared ?
Well, here's the end result :
I got an hammer that I won't use and the lich's help against Caelar. Didn't even knew you could recruit help against her, so that's nice. Caligula is now at the camp. He's inviting NPC into his team, only to loot their stuff, sell the stuff and kick 'em out. I was going broke, I had to do that...
One thing I fear, is that some of these fights in the mine costed me some rare ressources : potion of Magic Protection and Arrows of Detonation most importantly. I got only 2 of the former and 9 of the latter now. I wonder if those will be sorely missed later... I still have three necklace of fireballs that I can refill, so we'll see...
Well done @Arctodus - this was a lot of work!!! The Lich Army will be quite useful later even though it costed a whole bunch of resources. Hmmmmm..... i dont wanna spoiler too much but when looking at the following quote "...Arrows of Detonation... 9 of the latter one..." i would say: Your challenge-level will go through the sky at a specific point later on. Will you learn to fly?
Korgath on the other hand sided with the Dwarves as he couldnt betray his own kind. Thanks to PfU - he still had four Scrolls of it - he rushed through the Mines, killed the Lich easily and moved out again. End of story. With every side quest done and with a Identification Mirror, a Returning Dart +2 and a Clay Golem Figurine as new additions to his backpack he will move on to the next chapter soon. Lets see what we can break down there!
Korgath in the Temple of Bhaal or: Take it easy - but not too easy!
Korgath was in peaceful mood after some good sleeping and decided to use the power of stealth to slip through enemy lines. He even spared the life of Morentherene the Green Dragon and the Bugbear King until he finally reached the ruined Temple of Bhaal. There fighting was unavoidable but to make things a bit (ch)easier he charmed several Cultists before engaging Ziatar the Half-Dragon.
Her new friends lured Ziatar into some traps and gave her a good beating:
Korgath then sacrificed his new friends to the fearsome Neothelid to get the time needed to take on Akanna the Priestress. But - holy cow - something went wrong. His allies got eaten up in no time so Korgath had to face the Priestress of Bhaal as well as the Neothelid. Only a Potion of Magic Blocking saved him from the magic of this foul beast while several Aicd Arrows finally took Akanna down:
Korgath grabbed the Wardstone and tried to flee from this unholy place but - damn it - he took too much time looting some cultists near the exit. Suddenly the Neothelid teleported next to him AND a invisible Aerial Servant backstabbed Korgath neary to death. With only 18 HP left he barely managed to escape - what a hell trip!
Korgath - charming like always - tricked the Crusader Camp at Bridgefort down with ease. But before going for their Camp Leaders he charmed several guards to clear the area from its Goblin infestation:
After the outskirts were clear he used around 40 charges of the Nymph Cloak to charm nearly the whole camp - except for the named ones - and hailed: "REVOLUTION - down with all Leaders"! And the crowd rolled like an unstoppable avalanche - its first victim: Kharm, the Dwarven Commander!
With their power unleashed the crowd rolled upon the whole camp slaying one leader after another:
Once all Commanders went down the rest was just cleaning the bridge until the Crusade had to run in terror...
Time for Korgath to get some drinking with his new Crusader Friends!
P.S. The whole battle felt more playing something like Warcraft than a Baldurs Gate Solo Challenge *whistle*
Yeah, that Nymph Cloak is totally OP and breaks SoD apart cause the big numbers of human enemies are working in your favour. I am also toying with the idea of charming the pack in front of Dragonspear to conquer the castle with my own Crusaders. Okay - that wont work but it would be still funny to watch how the Crusaders are tearing their own forces apart.
Korgath is collecting his final items now and should be ready for Big B in the next day(s) - we will see!
Korgath´s Masterplan or: How to take on Hephernaan and his endless Guards
Korgath managed to sneak through the Underground Tunnels and tricked the Crusaders with his Badge so everyone let him pass without any trouble. He used the Elevator to finally meet Hephernaan who would call one wave after another to hunt down Korgath. But the tricky old Bounty Hunter knew everything about his prey - and set up a devious trap!
First he charmed Belben to break any talk trigger and shortly after his whole party joined in too:
Now Korgath poisened Water and Food and sneaked past Hephernann to another room where he charmed even more Guards:
With his new friends Korgath attacked Hephernaan. His first victims: Olvenaun and Esserin - Hephernaans bodyguards:
Okay - the bodyguards went down easily! Time to face the Golems and the first incoming Crusader Waves. No problem:
More Guards ported in and the numbers seemed to switch in enemies favour. But Myconids and Detonation Arrows are ready:
After firing one Arrow after another and using every summon available the dust settled - and offered a big suprise:
I played some tonight. At the start of chapter 9, I went through some orcs and hobgoblins. I used the people of the camp to aid me with... well... mixed results.
While I was wondering if all those Flaming Fist mercenaries would be needed at a later stage, I was kinda frightened that I was slowly painting myself in a corner without realizing it.
But then...
I met Jaheira and Voghlin. As usual, I accepted them in my party, only to take their stuff and kick them out right after. And, what did I found on Jaheira...
Yup, a beautiful Nymph Cloak, freshly refilled with 100 charges. Oh yeah. Believe me, if I painted myself in a corner, I'm gonna go Korgath on them so hard : use that sweet, sweet Cloak to get myself some massive personal army !!
Yeah, with the Cloak everything gets much easier - lets see how big your army will grow!!
But you are right: Getting into a corner without escape is exactly what happened on my very first SoD-Run with a Cavalier. So grab everything you can - one might need it later....
Korgath is still resting from his bloody slaughter before getting on to the next big challenge: The Crusaders wanna bring revenge to Coalition Camp soon. This should be interesting like always!
Not to forget: Here is what happened to Korgath on one of his failed tries against Hephernaan - holy cow!!!
Last but not least a very precious treasury that might be worth going through all of this pain - especially for Fighters:
How to trick the Crusader Attacks on Coalition Camp - Nymph Cloak Edition
Ah, the good old Crusader Attacks - once i feared them so much that i claimed many classes would just fail here. Time and with it new tactics proved me wrong. Korgath - with his license to charm - tried to pull out some new trick to make the first wave a bit easier.
And so he charmed several Soldiers that were standing or running around and parked them - together with six traps - right at the spot where the enemies would spawn shortly after:
After some waiting - and using the Dwarves of Dumathoin - the first wave approached and was welcomed by Korgaths new friends. Only downside: It can and will happen that some of them instantly disappear at some point. Maybe the game realizes that they arent supposed to be there so it removes them. Anyway: The remaining ones still were a big help and sacrificed their lifes while Korgath was burning everyone with Detonation Arrows:
Thanks to their support Korgath only needed 12 Detonation Arrows and some backstabs to clean the house:
Three out of four Dwarves survived - not a bad start!
To make things even easier Korgath used Protection from Fire Scrolls on the Dwarves before the fight to minimize the incoming fire damage - worked wonders too ecpecially for the Wizard Slayers later on!
EDIT: All Waves are down - thanks to Detonation Arrows + Summons + Fire Protection Scrolls it was easy like never before. Not a single reload needed - just stomping them into the ground. Look how lonely the last Crusader must have felt - right before he moved out of his sanctuary into the abyss:
Time for Korgath to prepare for the final confrontation...
Korgath is ready for Big B but - damn it - he had to buff himself up like never before:
Protection from Magic Scroll + Violet Potion + Potion of Fotitude + Potion of Agility + Fire Resistance Potion + Potion of Defense + Oil of Speed + Potion of Power + Regeneration Potion
His stats now look like this:
And here are some essential items that were aquired in SoD - without them Korgath would stand no chance against Big B!
Modron Heart:
Ring of the Crusade:
Cloverleaf:
Ring of Purity
Will they be enough? The statistics are telling that chances are not too bad:
Chance to hit Belhifet: 50% Chance to get hit by Erinyes Arrows: 10% Chance to get feared: 0% Chance to kill Belhifet: ?
But before getting to rumble her some warmup that shows what Korgath is able to do if his power is unleashed:
Thanks to all his preparations it wasnt that hard so Korgath only needed two tries to get through. The main danger are absolutely the Erinyes who shoot all day long. How good that Big B only summoned one of them - so the Regeneration Potion and some Healing Potions in between were enough to stay alive. And thanks to his fast Scimitars Big B nearly never landed any hit while the Invisibillity protected Korgath from the other Demons. At the end he had to burn 98 Invisibility Potions - still 51 left. It was also quite funny that backstabbing Belhifet works not that bad. So whenever he summoned more demons or casted a Fire Spell - Korgath tried to rush in and land a big hit. Well - no - the biggest hit of all landed one of the Hamatulas but - just take a look and laugh:
Thats what i call friendly fire at its best!
Time to take some rest before moving on to SoA!!
P.S. You are right @chimaera! I switched to the Bless-Amulet but the hit-bonus stayed at +12 - very strange...
After beating Belhifet Korgath moved on to pass through the final events of SoD. After his escape from prison he sneaked through the sewers and a cavern. With the exit in front of him he spotted some stairs leading up into the opposite direction. He climbed them and reached this harmless looking gate:
Korgath tried to get through it - but its impossible! What secret is waiting behind it? We will never know...
Korgath tried to get through it - but its impossible! What secret is waiting behind it? We will never know...
It'll be open if you get escorted out of prison by Duke's orders, rather than escape on your own. You need to win the trial for that to happen, though.
Free Bhaal priestess in the temple and tell her to either to repent (+) or to kill (-). Refuse (+) or agree (-) to undertake the poison mission. Cure the disease in Coalition camp (+). Kill a wrong person in the traitor quest in CC (-). Offer your own soul (+) or companion's (-) to Thrix. May need to have a party, don't remember. Have reputation 17 or 5. Be paladin or blackguard.
No big updates today cause i lack time. And: I cant motivate myself in playing on Korgath in SoA. Its like always that - somehow - my motivation drops to zero once SoD is finished. Maybe i will play one more char up to Big B and decide then which class should move on. As we have seen (nearly) any Fighter type should do the job. Thieves also can do it. Mages i dont care about as i never liked them. Monk would be cool but even more my old love - the pure Druid - attracts me. An Avenger should be big fun too - or maybe a Totemic Druid? I hope that @Arctodus and @Victor_Creed_SFV will make some progress in the meanwhile so they get in reach of SoA - maybe that will motivate me to play on too. Go, Go, Go!!!
Comments
I'm not sure though, if he did that on his own or got triggered by something?
Aaaaaaahh..... this red..... i wanna see..... blood!!! *RAGE*
Or something like that!
Charming triggers it, Moving a charmed person in triggers it, using Necklace of Missiles triggers it. DAMN IT!
As Korgath was getting close to rage he charmed the whole Crusader Party after talking:
With his new gang calling themselves "Korgath and the Puppet Masters" he is now clearing the spider swarms:
Ah, there is a lot of fun waiting for this new group of adventurers. Well - at least for the next 12 hours!
Probably not, since you can't even do that with summons...
"20% chance per hit that a random gem will be generated in the wielder´s gem". Okay, Korgath thought - lets see how this works exactly! And so he hit immortal Pfaug in the Camp again and again. At the end he had generated 100 Gems - here are the results:

No, no, no - Korgath failing against Hephernaan? This cannot be! So he tried it again and again and again!!!!!
At the end the solution was simple: Use the Elevator - restealth - and fire Detonation Arrows until all burned in Hellfire:
After nearly 50 Detonation Arrows and earpiercing explosions - suddenly - Silence. And the insight: What a mess!!!
The room nearby - so many lifes faded away:
Hephernaan escaped but his guards are dead - taken down by a small Dwarven Bounty Hunter.
May the fate smile upon him! - Good Night!
