Modern states are becoming an sovietic beurocracy in therms of stupid excessive centralized regulations.
Nothing new there. Germany's The Greens party is all for the federalisation of the European Union. Seems like it's even their European election slogan at this point (same goes for some other EU parties, too).

I really don't understand. Why a lot of politicians like the idea of federalizate an continental region? All continental centrlaized countries are corrupt hellholle. I say this as someone who lives in south of Brasil and know that neighbor countries like Argentina and Uruguay are far more safer and developed than Brazil.
Maybe is because is less "competition", for example, if an city implements strict gun control in USA, this city will become much more violent and people will leave once they have an opportunity. If the country does that, they have no chance to flee an awful legislation. This is why central banking, central legislation, central professional army, etc should't exist.
One of the reasons is probably to be more on eye level with other major powers. China in particular likes to basically buy off smaller European countries like they did with central Africa ones. Then there is the recent deal with China developing the 5G mobile network for Germany. And I probably don't have to mention what good ol' Trump thought about that one...
That being said: the thought of confederation Europe has been around for almost a hundred years. So it's not really something new either.
Thanks to EU, from the southernmost part of Scilly to the Northern part of Sweden, everyone is forced to follow the same law. That is awful.
Until VPN get outlawed like they are in China. China has set the standards that the EU is trying to achieve.
AT the same way that guns are illegal(legal guns are almost impossible to obtain and restricted to anemic cartdges) in Brazil and mainly in "farms" and favelas, there are tons of illegal guns. Anyone can easily obtain VPNs.

Only because they aren't cracking on those hard enough. Yet. Then you'll be receiving a criminal charge on suspicion on using a VPN because your ISP reported high volume on encrypted traffic it couldn't decode with DPI (what if you're downloading child porn? or engaging in terrorist activities?), which is now mandatory for having internet service license.
PS Oh yeah, and using VPN is gonna be aggravating circumstance too.
And all this with the tendency in a lot of European countries that right parties are being elected and are gaining influence. The current government in Germany is installing the tools for surveillance of the citizens including enforcements of executive forces, thinking it will be to their profit - until the next elections?
Is it ok to be scared?

Thanks for the correction.
