@AlexDeLarge I didn't think the game moved that slow at 30fps either. Then again, I grew up with the original game. I think a lot of the newer generation of gamers probably can't handle it because modern games are kind of turbo active. Sonic to our Super Mario. It's all good though.
The point of Baldur's Gate is the story...and technically if you are going to modernize some aspects of Baldur's Gate, I suspect you should give people a slider for frames per second. Arcanum is a good game for turbo active combat mechanics. >.>
I would consider myself a gamer since the early 90's and I have a hard time with the slow rate of movement in BG. Played it when it almost first came out. Didn't seem that bad back then. Now it's a bit hard. I think a lot of people will be turned off by this when they get the game for the very first time on the tablet and wonder why the game is going so slow.

I played the original back when it came out too... But after playing the series for years on 60 fps, 30fps is a snails pace (and pretty much unplayable...)
Why are you all acting like 60 FPS is somehow not possible and/or requires a major overhaul of the infinity engine? The original BG1 had it. Many people played all the original infinity games in 60 FPS and they worked just fine -- walking speed is doubled (a virtual necessity to make the games tolerable), and between the combat scripts and the auto-pause settings combat is a breeze, since most things die before any major party management needs to be done. Yes, the game runs more quickly at 60 FPS; that's the desired result. The fact that the makers of BGEE didn't implement this badly-needed feature in the settings menus at launch is annoying, made worse because the frame rate setting in the baldur-ini file is currently bugged and the game ignores the change from 30 to 60.

I agree totally. The game is just too slow at 30 fps. Simply unlocking the AI updates is the only wish I have for the game atm. I will not play the game nor recommend to any friends until this is updated.
I love how one of the best RPGs ever created becomes this slow, boring piece of crap to some people just because they can't set it to Benny Hill mode. Are you really Baldur's Gate fans? Or just fans of complaining? I bet if there was a frames per second option in the menu, most new players would set it as high as possible and then wonder why they're getting owned, not realising the game (which is already almost impenetrably difficult) is now running twice as fast.
I do think it's a bit of a baffling omission from the EE since a large proportion of the people buying it are BG vets who can't seem to cope with anything lower. But let's not pretend it's a game-breaking issue; it DOES sap some of the atmosphere and immersion from the game when everyone's tearing around the countryside like ADD cheetahs.

It may not be a game-breaking issue, but put the same effect into other parts of your life you're used to: Your cooking takes twice as long, your job takes twice as long, taking a shit takes twice as long. It may not ruin your life, but it may still be annoying the hell out of you
ah, the times when I really miss that this forum doesn't have a dislike button.
it's pretty much the same bullshit that goes down when a developer doesn't put FOV option into his little FPS, and a few fanboys actively attack people objecting to this, because "it's their artistic vision, and anyway, what right do you have to be pissed, it affects me too and I'm okay with it".
how about NO.
leaving an ages old feature out of the game that a significant number of fans have gotten used to is goddamn ridiculous. attacking these fans because they dare to speak their mind, on the other hand, isn't. it's simply retarded.
now go stand in the corner and say the Alaundo Chant about a nice hundred times.
Remove the cars, add swords, monsters, a fantasy world, gods, overlook view, D&D rules etc. etc. etc. and sure, I'll play need for speed because exactly the same as Baldur's Gate but with added speed
To be more serious, why do you even have to "bash" on people who wants a feature that was in the original game to begin with, especially if it's optional so that it would make no difference whatsoever to you? If they added it you won't even have to give a shit since apparently the game is perfect at 100% original settings to you.
I think the Need for Speed and especially the Benny Hill reference was quite funny. I chuckled a little. I find it amusing that you can be so upset over what clearly was meant as a light joke....
I don't mind if there's an FPS option in the game, but it would have to come with a statement to new players, that it amounts to cheating, and ruining the balance in the game, as it'll only ever affect the party and not any other character..
Maybe the reason it was decided to leave it out was for that reason? They've changed the speed on bears for instance. It's much faster now than before. Not so easy to run away from now.
I think why some people get upset on this forum is because of the snide remarks being used. Just b/c someone else has a difference of opinion I don't say things like silly and complaining. Even if the poster does not mean to be that way it can come off sounding snide. Every time someone come's along and says I can't believe you guys play faster then 30 ai updates, it just feels condescending. All I'm asking is that the original option be there just like it always has. That way people can play at what ever they want. It's almost like some of you are trying to say to the developers don't wast your time with this group of people, their a minority and there are more important things to do then screw around with AI updates. Running at high speeds is fine and enjoyable for me and I realize it damn well is not an FPS game. Been playing it ever since it came out at fast speeds almost.
I'm not trying to offend anyone just getting a bit tired of the same old remarks for the last few days. Even though valid points have been made why we like to run the game a bit faster. Some of the comments even if they are jokes seem childish. What's it to you people anyway.
I've never used it myself, but I thought I read somewhere it only affected the party... I could be wrong, and if I am, I stand corrected.
Still think it should be okay to throw in a funny remark once in a while, though. When you read the "Benny Hill" remark, couldn't you see the funny in that?
Sorry Bytebrain, totally have to disagree with you on there if you think it's cheating. It affects everyone, also as many mention it's perhaps harder to control your party at faster FPS then the default. Playing at 30 seems easier in my eyes then 45,50 or 60. I think the main reason that it's at 30 is because of MP. Multiplayer everyone has to have the same AI updates else you run into problems.
I don't even think you can connect unless you have the same AI updates as other players.

LOLWUT? You have never increased the AI Updates / Frames on the infinity engine apparently, yet you make a statement like you have a fucking clue.
So you people want to play with one of the longest computer game ever AND make it faster and therefore shorter at the same time. It's like drinking alcohol free vodka.
@ankheg & co give it a rest already. if some people want to play it that way it's their business. option to customize fps was there before and should be there now also. personally, i want to play at 40-45 fps, and that wil not affect your 30 fps game or somebody else 60fps game. ok?

@ankheg It's like getting drunk faster on one of the best games ever made lol rather then slower:) or not at all:) I think people keep forgetting that some people want to play at 35 or just 40. Everyone here keeps making it sound like everyone who likes updates is going to play at 60. I like 60 but a lot of people probably play at everything in between 30 and 60.

I dont give a personal flying fuck at what babypace you want to play your game, im just intrested in the product i bought actually being an enhancement to the original, not a dumbed down cut game with bits and pieces that generally is done a thousand times better by free mods to the original.

@alexDelarge
Thanks for the link. I'm going in for back surgery soon so I'll have sometime to watch lol.
So I just looked at what e-peen means on urban dictionary. What does that have to do with this at all?

If you read my reply to Yemeth I was wrong and said so.
No need to be rude!
Best way to avoid that, is to ask questions.
By the way, i'm pretty surprise that nobody has found a workaround yet.

@bytebrain
Whoops sorry never saw your reply, never mind then.
