Why was the Gorion cutscene changed?

In the original, the cutscene has Gorion put more of a fight and cast multiple spells on Sarevok.
In the EE version, the cutscene has Gorion pretty much ignore Sarevok before dying. And I think he casts flame strike on one of the ogres somehow despite being a mage?

In BGEE, Gorion has high-level spells! He first fires off a Contingency (Mirror Image, PFMW, Vocalize), then Magic Missile and Stone to Flesh at one ogre (stone chunkification!). Tamoko casts Draw Upon Holy Might on herself and Flame Strike at Gorion (i.e., he's the target, not the caster). Gorion refreshes his Mirror Image and then blasts the second ogre with a Lightning Bolt. Next, Sarevok charges him, so Gorion casts Stoneskin, then lets off a Fireball at Tamoko and Sarevok's other two thugs (at this point, he's got Mirror Image, Stoneskin, and PFMW running, so a guy with a sword is not an immediate threat). Unfortunately for CHARNAME's foster father, Tamoko casts a Dispel Magic, taking down his defenses. This allows Sarevok to take out Gorion, as he lost his Stoneskins and Protection from Magic Weapons.
The BGEE battle is *so* much cooler.
Cutscenes are made for cheating.
The Deathbringer Assault used in the cutscene however is just scripted damage and visual effects, he doesn't actually make any attacks, which is why it doesn't matter what defenses Gorion has up.
