Importing Vanilla BG save

I was going through an old machine and found save files from a completed vanilla BG playthrough. I fiddled with trying to get them to import to SOD with no luck; the game just doesn't seem to recognize them. I know a couple years ago I could import that character into BG2:EE (I found my starting saves in BG2:EE on the same machine), but it doesn't seem to recognize them anymore either.

Is there something specific I need to do? I'd like to see the new campaign, but don't particularly feel like a full replay of BG.
