Bug Bounty: Imoen walked through mountain of Gnoll Fortress

After clearing the Gnoll Fortress I was on the far western side of the map, I selected my entire party using the button on the bottom right, then clicked on the bottom end of the visible stairway that leads into the Xvart area. Imoen walked with increased speed through the non-passable mountain and engaged enemies at the bottom, while the rest of my party walked down the stairs at a normal pace. She was no longer visible and the fog of war did not lift. I had to rush my party down to clear the fog so that I could see her again.

Now that's an interesting trick. She got dimension door or what?

Imoen walked through High Hedge building yesterday for me too.

It happened to me too, but with Kagain, and at the hills before Nashkell. He walked trough a hill and the water.
  • Also experienced this bug, attempted to loot the chest on the ground floor of the candlekeep inn & walked through the wall..

I just experience this bug for the first time. I was in Durlags basement and tried to align my part members in the hall 2x3 just to get them all together. My mage just b-lined it for the other side of the area, walking away from her blinking cursor spot, and walked through a bunch of walls and through black area's between the tunnels. Once I took control of her again I couldn't walk through the walls I had to guide her back around. AI was off.

This could be linked to the pathfinding issues. Again today I issue a simple pathfinding command, the characters walk strait south and get stuck on a wall and stand there.

Yes, this happened to me in durlag's tower. My PC just walked across the cavern wall into the darkness in a straight diagonal path. Sadly, i couldn't reproduce this.

Happened to me in the maze just before undercity. Minsc just went through one of the walls.

It happened to me in the Nashkel inn while trying to open a drawer. The bug seems to be random and occurs infrequently.

Expected behavior: Characters walk where you tell them to walk.
Current (bizarre) behavior: For unknown reasons, sometimes upon giving a character a command they will start walking in a line and never stop, moving right through anything that may be in their way including the edge of the map. I assume this would be a pathing issue but I seriously have no clue. I also have no clue what triggers this odd behavior. Honestly it is somewhat rare that it happens but it has happened to me at least 4 times since I bought the game. I now give you a picture of Jaheira moving through an unwalkable pond in Peldvale.

and she would have kept on going into the oblivion that is outside the map had I not given her a new order. If they are in an unwalkable area when given a new order they do not get stuck but "teleport" to the nearest occupiable space to where they were.

Yeah, registered this. It would be great if someone writes how to reproduce this reliably.
I got a similar event when walking through a wall in ar0514 (while looking for Grael).
And there have been reports of being able to walk through walls in Mulahey's cavern and the Gnoll stronghold.

I've had it happen all over the place, from random wilderness zones to the middle of Baldur's Gate. It doesn't seem like the character actually moves there, though, since they tend to reappear where I told them to go after a few seconds.

If I figure out how to re-create it, I'll let you know.

Like I said, it is pretty rare that this happens and when it does happen I don't always notice it right away. Figuring out how to recreate it may be difficult since you would have to be (un)lucky enough to have it happen several times while you are watching your party's behavior.

I just had a thought. I may be completely wrong though as this is a complete guess. What if they are walking somewhere and a banter moment happens? Perhaps that disrupts a party members actions causing this bug. I think it just may be what is going on here. I have no evidence for this I just thought it fits with the rarity of this event.

I recently had Safana walking in a straight line through the blackness in the east sewers, no banter at all.

Banters aren't always easy to notice. I have noticed that every once in a while two random party members (including the PC) will stop whatever they are doing and turn to face each other. If I am right, then this is an attempt to start a banter. The attempt is made between two random party members and if they are not "compatible" there is no dialog generated. I only suggest this to give people something to look for and because the banter moment can tend to be very disruptive to various commands issued in more ways than one. I'm probably wrong but I was just thinking to myself that maybe this bug is one of the ways it can be disruptive. Anyway in order to be 100% certain that a banter didn't happen you almost have to be watching your characters as they walk to see if they turn to face each other since there isn't always (or usually isn't) an audio cue or generated dialog of any sort. I'm not even sure that it would happen every single time there was a banter either because I have noticed the amount of disruption tends to vary.
That said I also didn't notice any banter when I took that picture but that does not necessarily mean there wasn't one because I wasn't watching them as they were walking.

    Bumping this bug.

My familiar started to fly across the river at the Gnoll stronghold and then disappeared into the rocks north of the bridge. Thought no big deal, he can fly. Tried to enter a cave. Couldn't because my familiar couldn't reach me... I did not like this idea of leaving my familiar outside to be eaten so reloaded. Halfway through, my familiar decided to fly directly through a wall and spawned all the Gnolls in the fortress in one fell swoop. I clicked on the pesky fairy dragon before he left the screen and he became stuck on the top of the tower. The Gnolls enmasse engaged a hapless Minsc, who died trying to protect Neera who decided to help by casting a sleep spell that resulted in an explosion centred on caster... This killed the Gnolls, but had the unfortunate side effect of also killing Imoen, Branwen and myself... My fairy dragon was quite oblivious sitting on top of the tower looking at the carnage...

    After reloading...

I put my familiar in my pack...

    ...

As per @tressest theory there is a banter here between Minsc, Khalid, jaheria before the bridge. Edwin has a banter with hairtooth at the end of the bridge... Both pretty funny dialogues. But as I have seen them before... I didn't have those NPCs with me.

While I agree this bug should be taken care of, for your future reference, if a party member (or familiar or temp party member like Korax or charmed NPC) gets stuck, you don't really have to reload to keep your familiar with you.
As long as you can select the individual by clicking on it, all you have to do is press Ctrl+J and that party member will be teleported to the mouse cursor, wherever that happens to be.

Give me the steps to reproduce this problem consistently from either a) a new game or b) a save game you where the problem is active and

I will give you an invitation to the BGEE/BG2EE beta test.

Time is of the essence, urgent, ASAP and all of that. Post your solution here! Deadline is this Friday.

I must be able to reproduce this using the current production build according to your instructions for your entry to count. Note that participation in the beta test is contingent upon signing an NDA.

When my friends and I attempted LAN about 2-3 weeks ago, we noticed it on each others screens alot. While my mage was busy slinging at some Xvarts, on my brother's screen he was walking right through the middle of the battlefield like he didn't give a crap. Good luck!

Had this happen to me just now in AR5001 with Imoen. Unable to reproduce unfortunately.

I had this happen in the Ulcaster dungeon. I had my party walk to a specific area, but two of them (I know one was Dorn, the other one I think was Imoen) kept walking and just walked through the walls and off the map. I ended up having to use cheat keys and Ctrl+J them back onto the screen.
