@Syntia13, well, doggone it, I always knew that Minsc's face looked to me exactly like a real-world celebrity's face that I had seen countless times before, and I never could place it! Now I know that it's Arnold Schwartzenegger with a shaved head! Wow.
And, I think that Minsc as a kindergarten teacher is about the coolest, most awesome idea I've heard in a long time. The kids sure would love him!
EDIT: You know what I think that Xan would be perfect as? A professor of existentialist philosophy. The nihilist kind."
Haha! Xan would be a Nietzsche addict! "God is dead"
And as a RL kindergarten teacher, I think Minsc's antics would do great in kindergarten... As long as he doesnt throw the bullies (as he doesnt trust them further than he can throw them, AND THROW THEM HE WILL!).
Hum, I just realized that I use Minsc inspired speeches at work. Swords for everyone!
I will have a look around, but will most likely get something about mages or magic creatures.
Well any monster manual contains magical creatures, and every realms supplement has a few realms-specific creatures sprinkled in it.
I would suggest "Magic of Faerun" its another 3.x supplement but it gives some information about how magic works in the realms, along with rare magic like Spellfire and Elvish high-magic.
@Buttercheese Nice! The clothing you chose for Sarevok and Edwin make them look especially handsome. (Meaning I'm drooling a little. What? I like well dressed men. Lemme alone!) ;P @belgarathmth, @jhart1018, @Aristillius The trait I love most in Minsc is how caring and protective he is of kids. It may not be apparent in BG1, with its limited banter, but just count the times Minsc rushes to a child's rescue in BG2 - the little boy near the circus tent, the boy from Umar Hills (Delon?), the pair of children in Saradush, and let's not forget his immediate and unstoppable rage at meeting the serial child killer. While I wouldn't see him as a father, he'd make a kickass tutor/babysitter. (And I don't think he'd toss bullies around. He'd just put them on top of a bookshelf for a few hours, and explain to them just how disappointed Boo is in their behavior).
"This course will teach you that life is meaningless. All the efforts that you make to finish your education, find a mate and a good job, and all that kind of rot are totally vain. Your efforts to have a pleasant life are doomed. We shall examine the philosophers from 1850 to the present who have taught us the truth of the meaninglessness of life. Your education is pointless. This course is pointless. I know that most of you are going to run right out of here and drop the course this afternoon. The rest of us will learn the truth about life, but it won't do us any good."
Oh man, I haven't laughed this hard in a while. I read it all in his voice, it's so perfect, I could see the entire scene. I'd take that class for sure!
"Dungeons and Dragons Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting" ISBN: 0-7869-1836-5
The only thing they mention in the official timeline there regarding BG is that Bhaal died during the Time of Troubles. No word of Gorion, the Iron Throne fall, the Iron Crisis, near destruction of Suldanesselar, destruction of Saradush or a Bhaalspawn becoming a new god.
PS: The forgotten realms wiki also states that the BG saga is not canon.
In the Power of Faerûn source book, the Iron Crisis is hinted at between the lines. I'll see if I can find it when I'm back at home.
In the Year of the Banner (1368 DR), agents of the Iron Throne nearly sparked a war between Baldur’s Gate and Amn by “poisoning” the iron mines above the Amnian town of Nashkel. Although the plot unraveled, both Duke Eltan and his lieutenant Scar were killed and had to be resurrected. Both Amn and Baldur’s Gate vowed revenge, but they quickly became swept up in other events. The following summer, agents of the Iron Throne began attacking caravans from Baldur’s Gate bearing iron in any form, leading to an escalating series of trade wars along the main caravan routes of the Western Heartlands. (p. 82)
I think Minsc would die or get put to death. Although he's naturally good, he's already dangerous in Faerun with a party at his sides where there are less rules. Without a party, he'd call out someone trying to rob an old woman, kill the person then get arrested. He'd be doing the right thing but in our world there's different laws. Still would be worth a laugh.

But yeah, Realms lore is awesome and you should be able to pick up anything used and cheap from Amazon. You have anything in particular in mind?
