Trump claimed at a rally that he was going to flee the country when Biden wins the Presidency.

    https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-suggests-he-may-leave-country-biden-election-2020-10

This should be a huge warning sign to any Republican still stupid enough to go sticking their neck out for Trump - he doesn't care about you.

Loyalty only goes one way. He's ready to run and leave you holding the bag.

He going to flee the country to one the US doesn't have an extradition treaty to avoid going to court and jail.

My ballot was recorded in less than 24 hours. Could be less than that but that was when I looked. Where is this voting fraud? I feel like Leo Getts in Lethal Weapon 2.

    Rodge: One man, one vote!
    Leo: One man one vote!
Rodge: To free the “USA” you dumb son of a bitch!
Leo: You dumb son of a bitch!

It did feel like Trump is already conceding defeat.

I dont think it can be overstated just how dangerous and moronic this is:

Seriously. 14 people were just arrested for plotting to kidnap the Governor of Michigan. They've released some of their text messages, and the group was consider just murdering her on the spot rather than trying to hold her hostage.

Trump needs to go. It needs to be such a landslide that no one is ever so indecent and awful again.

This, and also the story about Giuliani leaking text messages that show Biden.......loves his son, and somehow assuming it would be a negative for Biden. It's as if they are purposefully running a campaign forcing America to choose against a guy with empathy, and a monster, and they are betting people will choose the monster instead.

With Hillary, you could at least IMAGINE a scenario where a right-wing crowd would want her jailed for some pseudo-scandal. But this is like the third or fourth time they've just substituted some other Democratic woman into the rally, and it's the same chant. Lock her up for what?? This is just pure fascism, plain and simple. Lock them all up?? Who?? Democratic politicians?? Liberals?? Anyone who votes against him??

Never forget that 99% of Republican elected officials in this country hitched their wagons to this. It wasn't an accident. This was their choice. They were warned this was where it would end up countless times, and had a dozen opportunities to get off on an exit ramp. Doing so now is craven and meaningless (yeah, I'm talking to you Ben Sasse).

If only there was an opportunity very recently for them to do the right thing. Like at a trial of some sort. Why at a trial you call witnesses and determine the truth of what happened right. Screw them and their faux hand wringing now.

He's ready to run and leave you all with your asses in the wind.

In case anybody wants to know what's happening in my state. The US Senate race seems to be more competitive than was expected. John James (R) is a pretty likeable guy, who also happens to be African American, while Gary Peters (D) is a bit lacking in the charisma department. It'll be interesting, and possibly strategically relevant, how this plays out...

Supporting Trump “2,000 per cent” wasn’t his smartest move

Yeah, well he said that in 2018 when it wasn't such a bad move. Could haunt him now for sure...

Biden wins by 5% nationally, James has a chance. If Biden wins by 10%, I doubt it will matter. Rising tide lifts all boats. It doesn't really matter what any individual Republican stands for. For the average voter, they all have a bright, flashing Scarlet "T" next to them, for good or ill.

The only question at this point is just how long the electoral college dam can hold against whatever Biden's popular vote total will be to even give Trump his chance at threading the needle. I can't imagine it's much more than 5%. If it is, and say, Biden wins the national vote by 7%, and somehow Trump were to STILL become President, then we have an unsustainable legitimacy problem going forward.
  • ilduderinoilduderino Member Posts: 773
There was enough of a legitimacy problem after the 2016 election. Trump will style out a win as a win, no matter the popular vote. Someone will have to win under the existing rules and change the system thereafter if they can

More and more dubious. Despite reporting on this story getting worse and worse, apparently Ron Johnson (a Republican Senator) went on fox news and claimed that there was child pornography on Hunter Biden's laptop.

I mean - they're literally doubling down on QAnon nonsense, at the highest level of the government. There's nothing more important than winning and giving kickbacks to the rich. That's the modern GOP.

It's straight-up Info-Wars stuff at this point, who claimed this weekend that the laptop now contains video of Hunter Biden raping and torturing Chinese children. Hunter Biden's laptop (which I still highly doubt is even his) now apparently has snuff films on it. So that escalated quickly. Pretty soon we'll find out Hunter Biden is a robot sent back in time to kill John Connor's mother.

If the people who buy into Qanon are so legitimately concerned about international sex rings, they can focus on the woman who Trump "wished well" who was actually in charge of one, or, you know, the Catholic Church (while Democrats may be too scared to talk about Barrett's membership in a splinter-sect of Catholicism, I'm definitely not).

It's incredibly easy to care about fictional children being ritualistically sacrificed to a cabal of blood-drinking international elites. Apparently less easy to give a shit about actual children who were ripped away from their parents forever for crossing a line a map, which they are, at the very least, partially responsible for.

As I said, the story was clickbait. Other news organizations are now piggybacking off of that click bait by reporting on it. It's going to stay in the news until it doesn't generate enough clicks.

Trump's team still got what it wanted from it as Twitter cracked down on it and the right can be gleefully say that Twitter and big tech is attempting to control the narrative - here's proof, time to crack down on them.

The Post sold any integrity he had left with this story. I won't be surprised if their journalist start resigning after the election.

This isnt Trump. This is your bread and butter Conservative senate caucus. Signing the deal would boost their reelection chances, but also probably be a shot in the arm of the economy when (if) Biden becomes president. There is already reporting that the GOP is going to pivot hard to austerity measures under a Biden president. You know. To slow the recovery and get their fiscal conservative bonafides in order before smashing them again the second there's another conservative in the White House.

    Other interesting news:

Wonder if Trump sticks out and attends the 3rd debate. My money is on yes, but I wouldnt be surprised if he skips. Truth be told - muting his mic would probably help his performance. This is probably to his advantage, whether he will perceive that or not is anyone's guess...

This idea that blue states (who contribute the OVERWHELMING majority of money to the federal coffers) don't deserve federal funds when a Republican is in office is so far and away more offensive than any perceived slight a rural conservative could hope to invent in their head that it isn't even funny. And, as you say, it isn't just Trump, this is Republican dogma. If you vote blue, you can rot. Right down to disaster relief.

Liberals may not like, or even look down on conservative voters. They don't DENY they are Americans. The Republican position is, if you are left of center, you don't deserve to vote, and you deserve nothing from the government whatsoever. Those aren't my words, those are the words of supposed "populist" Josh Hawley. Blue state bailout money. Let's see what would happen if what Hawley clearly views as foreign adversaries rather than states start withholding their tax dollars. Places like Mississippi would collapse.

This is why conservative aggrievement is so laughable. Actual elected representatives have declared war on any state that dared not collectively vote for Donald Trump for four years, in actual, tangible ways. But by all means, let's focus on what's really important, and play the world's smallest violin because some people on Twitter mocked Amy Coney Barrett for her extremist religious beliefs.

The "fuck your feelings" crowd literally only ever has that happen to them. Their "feelings" get hurt. The right quite literally PUNISHES blue portions of the country with their policy, and it isn't a byproduct, it's the goal. The problem is not just Trump. The problem is the Republican Party. Full-stop.

Speaking of info wars, the DOJ filed a massive antitrust case against Google.

This is a political lawsuit. According the President their main crime is "censoring conservatives". Attorney General William Barr has taken a personal interest in the investigation and the resulting lawsuit, the New York Times has reported.

The 11 states that joined the suit are Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, South Carolina and Texas -- according to the complaint.

This lawsuit, coming right before the election, is a political assault by Republicans attempting to exert control over information Americans are able to see on the internet.

Didn't the Trump administration go out of its way to toss aside rules to ALLOW right wing TV to infect local news across the country with Sinclair broadcasting?

There are 14 days left to the election, and Trump has decided to use every hour of this particular one to pick a fight with 60 Minutes. Honestly, even if you loath the media, 60 Minutes is not really the best target. They are basically the Led Zeppelin IV of news shows. Alot of people (especially older people) wind down their weekends by watching it after football is over. But moreover, we have a SERIOUS COVID-19 case spike happening (70k a day), and this scrum with Leslie Stahl is consuming all his waking hours. Has there ever been a group of people who take their job less seriously than this crew does?? Forget doing the job badly, they aren't doing anything AT ALL.

Literally laughed at this. And so true about the football to news pipeline.

'OoOo I wonder what question was asked that made him storm off in a huff,' is the only thing that people will talk about after the episode even though He, Pence, Biden, and Harris were all interviewed. It's his tactic to keep everyone but himself meaningless.

Hillary got endless shit for not visiting Wisconsin enough. Here is Trump telling his own supporters he wouldn't have even bothered visiting Pennsylvania if he hadn't had a historic public health crisis fall on his watch. Seriously, if this guy wins.......

The devotion to someone who is willing to tell you to your face he doesn't give a shit about you is just something to behold. People say Trump is funny, and while that is up for debate, what isn't up for debate is that he's somehow cracking jokes. He isn't. He's just an absurd person, and the position he is in even more absurd than that.

There was a similar sort of thing yesterday when Trump explained that he could raise far more campaign money than Biden if he wanted to - by offering to sell permits to companies like Exxon.

If asked in a neutral, hypothetical way, I'm sure that a lot of Trump supporters would regard that sort of abuse of power as a bad thing and I don't really understand why so many people are still willing to give him a pass when they don't share his personal attitudes. If you look at the Christian vote for instance, there still seem to be large numbers who think it's possible to support his policies without supporting him - despite what seems to me to be the mountains of evidence that Trump himself makes no distinction between what's good for the country and what's good for himself.

The problem is - there's a not insignificant sect of modern American Conservatism that dont think this is abuse of power. Dershowitz, in defending Trump during his impeachment, actually tried to make the argument that Trump could abuse the power of his office to be reelected and write it off as being in the nation's interest because what is in Trump's interest is in the nation's interest.

That's a staggering argument to make, and belies the idea that so long as he's doing what Conservatives want him to do, it doesnt matter how he goes about doing it.

It's just an encapsulation of everything they have been saying about healthcare for four years. There is no plan to replace Obamacare, there is no plan to cover people with preexisting conditions. Never has been, never will be. It's a lie they tell over and over and over. It's a lie they'll continue to tell even as they knowingly present a blank binder as their "healthcare plan". Actually, I take that back, it's the most honest thing they have ever done on the subject. Their plan doesn't exist, so the only honest thing to do is present blank pages.

So I guess the question is now, did he walk out if the interview because Leslie Stahl said "ummm, there is nothing in this book"?? Again, this is a deadly serious time, and these aren't serious people. They're a circus act. It's grifters and con-men all the way down. Play time is over, god-willing.

By the way, Trump's tweets usually get about 100,000 likes at a minimum. After 3 hours, that one is at about 58k. No MAGA folks are even bothering to defend it.

I can't wait to see the White House video of the Leslie Stahl interview. They'll have plenty of time to spice it up with some back-room baby sacrifice footage, demon summoning rituals and a shady dark-skinned pizza delivery boy delivering some 'cheese pizza' to the cameramen...

Yeah people forget one of the biggest lies of the 2016 Trump campaign was claiming that he'd pass a healthcare overhaul on "day one" of his administration. Two years of having complete control of the congress, and they didn't so much as get a bill out of committee.

They didn't want to. Just like nothing seems to ever change much when the Democrats take the reigns either. Both parties seem more interested in power and the status-quo than doing anything for the people they represent. If nothing else, Trump has shown that a President can accomplish more than he's Constitutionally allowed if he's willing to push the envelope. Not sure Biden is the type to use that to advantage though...

No. the Democrats did pass a sweeping healthcare reform that dropped the number of uninsured in the country by tens of millions. Not a small change!

Touchè, but it could have been a lot better if they'd been willing to take a chance.
