Will there ever be more "substantial" updates?

First of all, let me clarify that I'm not trying to belittle the work made by the devs so far on the game. I was wondering if we'll ever see "bigger" updates, mostly concerning QoL improvements to the game (like options to send removed companions to an inn, for example). I'm not complaining about the work done so far, the mere fact that the game is still maintained is amazing in this era of video gaming, I was just wondering if there are plans for the future past 2.7.

Starting with the 2.7 Infinity Engine update, our focus has shifted from in‑game bug fixes to long‑term technical support for the titles. As reflected in the 2.7 release, we’re prioritizing improved localization and keeping pace with evolving mobile OS requirements. Our current goal is to invest in systemic improvements that benefit both players and the games themselves, such as enhanced language support and expanded modding capabilities on mobile.

I suppose it's wishful thinking to hope that someday basic core gameplay bugs like the clumping/pathfinding bug Beamdog introduced a couple of patches ago will ever get fixed. smh.

At least modders for the foreseeable future are still willing to take on the bugs that don't involve serious exe re-engineering:

This computer at work seems to re-image itself every work trip. Takes like an hour to install scs alone, icewindfication and RR before, then tweaks, then my mod.. :S

Hope everything works with the new patch :D

To me what would make sense would be kind of a universal game engine, as much as that is
possible, but to integrate as many different game "styles" as a cohesive unit, including
mods by third parties. Now, I don't know how best to approach this, it is probably a lot of
work and time is a finite resource, so who knows whether this may all be easily possible. But
if it were, I think it would be kind of great. We could play the unmodified original but also
mods with more stories, improvements to the engine, and we could play the whole series
(BG1, Siege, BG2 etc...), Icewind dale, Planescape Torment and so forth.

For instance, when I first installed the BG2 world map, I was curious about the various
other cities. Naturally we don't have all cities explorable, but imagine if we could have
that. I dislike AI, but imagine if AI would provide a base ground for some areas and humans
to then improve manually. Humans could then focus mostly on the story itself, AI
auto-generates stuff that would fit (assuming the quality is fine).

Bug fixes are always great, but I think the biggest priority that would make sense is
for e. g. new storylines, new mods, existing enhancements. There are many nice
individual ideas by people, e. g. the Aura NPC mod extending the artificer theme.

It's kind of interesting how people extended the game over the years here.
