Classes You Really Want in Baldur's Gate

I am sure there is mods for this, but for me there is one class that is within Icewind Dale, Neverwinter, but not Baldur's Gate and that is my favourite class. BARD, this is my favourite class and if I could I would make my character a bard, it seems odd they got people like Volo, Eldoth and that poet, but not the actual class. I am pretty sure BG2 did not implement it either.

I will stand corrected if I am wrong though, I am pretty sure though Bards were only in Neverwinter and Icewind Dale...

You are in luck! You can play as a Bard in Baldur’s Gate. I’m not sure what the differences between a Bard class in Icewind Dale and a Bard in Baldur’s Gate might be. But they should be fairly similar.

We have always had bards as a playable class in Baldurs Gate, I think the only difference between Baldurs Gate and the other games you mentioned, is the lack of song options. In the other games you had a selection of songs with different effects which you could switch between depending on the current situation, whereas in Baldurs you are limited to just the one song (Though this song varies between kits, and can receive an upgrade at very high levels).

Oh wait I see my problem, it's hidden under Rogues, see I am so used to Pathfinder Bards and Rogues being seperate...

    I waaanntt
    A dread necromancer.
All the Cleric and Wizard Necromancy spells on one class+some other necromantically flavored powers.
I mean I could play a Mage/Cleric (and in fact I do) but I like single classes more than multi.

I want to be able to play a good necomancer myself, not someone like Xzar... actually you know using their necromatic magicks for helping others.

I want mages in Baldur's Gate. That's more important than anything else.

    Thankfully, they're already there.

Again had no idea Bards were hidden under Rogue, since I am so used to it being a seperate class.

    I guess he means like
    Warrior- Fighter, Ranger, Paladin, Barbarian
    Priest- Cleric, Druid, Monk
    Wizard- Mage, Sorcerer
    Rogue- Thief, Bard

Wasn't there some sort of division in the Manuel or something based on that?

Nah, Vall, I genuinely made a tit of myself... although the discussion can continue since it was centred around classes you want in the game.

I would love to see this also. I was really hoping for this class in SoD when they said they were working on a psionic creature but it was not to be.

    I still want the 1E bard. It's the ultimate triple-class: Fighter->Thief->Druid.

I completely agree! Same thoughts went through my head when I saw that statement from the devs.

The Mystic and Psionicist classes comes to mind. Also, having the Witch (possibly as a new Shaman kit) would be sweet as well.

For now, I'm just glad we get the Shaman class though. :)

@Kamigoroshi, what's a Mystic or Witch do? Haven't heard of those in the DnD world...

Mystics are divine spellcasters similar to clerics, minus the turn undead ability. Although instead of only following a deity's doctrine blindly, they are an individualistic and independent bunch by nature which love to experience the world's hidden truths and beauty. Mystics also don't wear any kind of armours or shields. And the only weapons they can whield are staffs, slings, nets, lassos and whips. However they can more or less cast both cleric and druid spells and get to enjoy familiars as well. They're also more resistant to charms than others, brew both medical and poisonous potions, are able to create various magical candles and even age slower than other members of their race. Well at least the Mystic "class" variant in the AD&D sourcebook Faiths and Avatars. There's also the Mystic "kit" variant in The Complete Wizard's Book, but it's not so great imho.

The Witch in AD&D on the other hand is a Wizard kit which can be found in The Complete Wizard's Handbook as well. She also centers around familiars, brewing potions, charming enemies, but suffers some nasty witch curses. Other editions of D&D also have the Witch class. From what I remember they retained their connection to curses/hexes and brewing potions, but became spontanious spellcasters.

    Fighter/Cleric/Thief.

Or a Monk with Thieving ability(AFAIK he should have as per PnP rules)

Favoured Soul. Hands down my number one choice. Though I prefer the 4th and 5th Ed name, which is Invoker. When SoD and the shaman-class come out, I expect someone to mod this into reality. Please throw me with a message when that happens.

Another one I would like to see is a Spellblade with temporary weapon enchantments, touch range combat spells and combat protections.

Warlord. A fighter with shouts that work like AoE-buffs, and they also effect enemies. Their very presence in the battlefield turns the tide in your favor.

Maybe those three are enough for now. I have others in mind as well, and I also agree with many of you above. Who doesn't love classes?

I want a paladin of Mystra. As in, a paladin who can cast some arcane spells.
