Anybody ever try a solo minimum stat game?

Solo is fun and all, but what happens when you drop all your stats to their minimum?

I remember seeing this challenge YEARS ago on another board. I think it was voted you could boost STR to 6 just to carry some stuff (unless another class makes it higher).

Some cheese notes:

Elf rangers have the highest minimum stats of any race/class combo, and BGEE implemented the higher stats of specialist mages.

No dual classes in this challenge!

Who's up to it? What would you like to try?

Dragon disciples have some unusual minimums (10 STR, 14 CON, 15 CHA) as do dwarven defenders (12 STR, 9 DEX, 16 CON)

I remember messing around with a few different characters years ago. Lots of fun, especially now that all those potions you wouldn't use when min-maxing would come into play.

I had a tremendous time RPing a crippled Priest of Talos who later multi-classed into a mage. His background was that the storm called to him and he ascended to the highest tower of Candlekeep and was struck by lightning. Thus gaining his faith and his disabilities that were reflected in his low physical attributes. Made all the more realistic by the fact that he could barely carry his own gear without slowing down! And you know what? A minimum stat cleric/mage is still hella powerful!

    Cool man!

Remember: for this idea, I mean minimum literally. Sure, you can boost with potions and tomes and items, but during character creation, you need to drag those stats as low as they'll go!

certain races have high minimums, as do certain classes. Every class's minimums include at least a 9 in their main stat.

Also, the official D&D rules about max spell level aren't in Baldur's gate. For instance, you wouldn't be able to cast 9th level wizard spells unless you had an 18 INT in 2nd edition AD&D. That is not the case with BG.

Oh I spent 75 points. everything was low except for INT and WIS. I also didn't pick where the stats went, I took a 75 roll and designed the character around just like we did 35 years ago! In the good old days being a Paladin wasn't a choice, it was fated. ;)

    The good old days. :)

On Friday night, my elf sorcerer beat Sarevok. I haven't gotten far in BGII yet.

It was funny: the hardest part of the game was levels 1-3. Once I hit 4, invisibility helped with so many things. I finished the game without hitting the 161,000 mark!

The biggest PITA was dragging loot with a 6 STR. If I were to do this again, I'd take a long look at the spell Strength.

I didn't have Knock yet when I was in the Candlekeep dungeon, so I missed out on two stat bumps. Haha

I remember messing around with a few different characters years ago. Lots of fun, especially now that all those potions you wouldn't use when min-maxing would come into play.

Dwarven Defender like this would get by ok early game. He'd get a str boost to 19 from Raasad's quest (and an Int boost as well!) He'd also get a dex boost to 18 very early. So by the end of BG1 he'd be 19/18/17 (from the tome).

BG2 you can get a str19 belt early and can do the gauntlet quest first. So by the end of the first quest he'd again be 19/18/17 again and would have the 18 Cha ring. Meaning that his only weaknesses would be 3 int/wis. So low lore (meaningless) and one shotted by mind flayers. The only issues he has are early BG1 and losing some HPs and short saves (that is until he hits 18 con from either lum or hell).

Also a dragon disciple/sorcerer wouldn't make much difference either given that sorcerers don't need stats. Another easy-ish one is a skald. Just sit back and sing. Just don't get him into combat (but with stoneskin and mirror image he should survive until help arrives)

    Just my 2 cents

How are you getting a 19 STR in BGI? And a DEX of 18?

The challenge was meant to be solo (or it'd be way too easy). I have never used Rasaad though. What do you get from him that boosts stats so much?

There's a cursed belt of hill giant strength you find during his quest. It puts strength to 19 but Intelligence to 6.

Only Yeslick can remove the belt without a Remove Curse spell...
